On May 3, 2024, a record-breaking event unfolded at the Jimo Sports Arena in Qingdao, China as 425 dulcimer artists from 12 countries converged to create a mesmerizing spectacle. This diverse group of performers, ranging from young enthusiasts to seasoned professionals, aged between 5 and 79, came together to perform a new piece composed by the renowned Chinese composer Professor Liu Hao from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Conducted by the young maestro Ma Shuai from the Central Conservatory of Music, they achieved the Guinness World Record for the "Largest Dulcimer Ensemble" with the performance of “Doulcimer Voices in Harmony.”
This landmark event was part of the inaugural "China Dulcimer Elite Showcase and Qingdao Dulcimer Culture Festival" and was supported by the Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism. Spearheaded by Professor Liu Yuening of the Central Conservatory of Music and the Chinese Musical Instrument Association's Dulcimer Art Committee, this ensemble was a beautiful blend of cultural unity, featuring six types of dulcimers from the four major systems of the dulcimer family worldwide.
