I thank Dr. Larian for these videos. These records were like a guide for me, and I went to my doctors already prepared. Today is day 10 since I had my parathyroid adenoma removed. The operation lasted 2 hours, as the surgeons examined all 4 thyroid glands. The first thing I felt after the operation was that I didn't feel old anymore, the tiredness that had dragged on for years was gone. My quality of life decreased so much that I asked my endocrinologist for help, and he recommended surgery. I am currently 54 years old. I have been suffering from primary hyperthyroidism for over 10 years. However, radiological examinations during these years did not show diseased parathyroid glands, so there was no need for surgery as well as not genetically inherited. I recently found in my blood tests history that I had an elevated calcium level already in 2007, but my family doctor did not pay attention to it. How can it be that for all these 15 years I was shown the same calcium elevation, but the parathyroid hormone every time was different?
@beesvees17 ай бұрын
Very similar circumstance. Having surgery in a few weeks lack of continuity of care. I think it was my problem. My calcium had been elevated for at least 10 years, but I was seeing different doctors and none of them seem to think it was that big of a deal.

Same here- continued high calcium and a bunch of symptoms, so bad bed bound most all the time. 105 lbs, 61, nervousness extreme, poor appetite, severe constipation, digestion issues, extreme depression, body malaise, facial & head scalp sores, healthy diet. Also 5 years Graves disease/ hyperthyroidism & on Metholmazole daily. Kidney stones some. Endocrinologist just diagnosed last week finally hyperparathyroidism, with high calcium, high iron, high folate, low red cells. Going Sestamibi scan soon. We'll see how this goes from here? May 17th 2024. ??? Lp

7 years of elevated calcium levels without any additional testing or follow up. A lot of my complaints were attributed to my working night shift, gaining weight in my thirties, grief , pregnancy and Postpartum. I have felt unwell for so long as my new normal. My PTH was 345 before getting getting an order to see an endocrinologist

I'm 34 and in a lot of pain every day. I have several autoimmune diseases and am getting tested for another one. Recently, I had severe swelling in my neck, jaw, and salivary and parotid glands, which sent me to the ER. The swelling was so bad that I couldn't speak. I was given steroids, saline with dextrose, and an anti-inflammatory. The swelling gradually subsided, but I still need to have bloodwork done for symptoms of Sjogren's. I had it again and thank goodness in a week it subsided. I'm so tired. I have fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, possibly premature ovarian failure, psoriatic arthritis, scoliosis, and chronic bone and joint pain. Life is challenging enough as it is, and I wish I was at least thriving, but that's not the case and life has been brutal, as it has been to others. I feel like I'm dying lmfao...but I try not to take life too seriously. 😉😂 I take a biologic for PsA/PsO once a month. I'm so thankful for something that helps.

Thank you for explaining normocalcemic hyperparathyroidism. My PTH, calcium, vitamin D, prealbumin, GFR, and ALP were tested as part of my preDXA scan. My last DXA was done 2 years ago w/o blood test and showed osteopenia. I have no prior history of PTH or ALP levels for comparison. My calcium and vitamin D levels have been normal to low normal. In this instance my calcium and vit D were normal as was the prealbumin. However my PTH was 224, my ALP was 212 and eGFR was 63. Follow up with a liver panel with very elevated GGT (200s) and a slightly elevated AST, the rest were normal. This will be followed up as a separate issue. My kidneys have had stable stones for many years that have never passed. My Dr has chosen a wait and see regarding the PTH level despite my 4+ years of constant fatigue as well as having also had many years of off and on flu-like joint and muscle pain as well as restless leg syndrome. She (my Dr) did suggest it may be normocalcemi hyperparathyroidism (I also have idiopathic hypothyroidism primary hypertension and RA). I’m 63 years old. I fell and broke my wrist requiring initial surgery and then 3 more surgeries from complications. My distal radius has had delayed healing (which was why a repeat DXA was ordered. I haven’t had the DXA yet. My mother is 91 years old and I feel nearly as old. I am very unhappy that the liver and parathyroid issues have seemingly struck at once and repeat blood tests for the next 6 months before considering next steps. I am obviously concerned about all of this. 😕 I wish you were my Dr

Sounds like you may have normocalcemic hyperparathyroidism. I would suggest repeating the labs after one month of vitamin D supplementation (1000-3000 IU daily), fasting and at 8 AM.

Thank you Dr. Larian! I'm going for my Parathyroidectomy right after New Years. I'm a 58 year old male with one adenoma on my lower right parathyroid. (Calcium-11.6, PTH-91). No coincidence that I had "low dose" radiation treatment (following Keloid removal) 29 or 30 years ago. Same side (right). Treatment that DID NOT work, I might add, because the keloid grew back and eventually grew bigger than the original size! During my research, I found a couple of articles that show a relationship between head and neck irradiation and parathyroid tumors, with the time frame listed as.... "Average latency between radiation exposure and Hyperparathyroidism of 30 years". I'd love to hear your thoughts and if you've had any patients with this experience? Thank you and Happy New Year!

Thank you for doing these videos. Perhaps armed with this knowledge I can get help. I have had 3 tests - all normal calcium, normal vit D, and increasingly high PTH (123.4 the last - up from 104.4 in just a few months). I have osteoporosis, extreme fatigue, urinary frequency, HTN and many other issues. I was told "there's nothing to be done" because GFR is normal, but am refused a 24-hr urine. Would a scan be helpful? If so, which type? I also have 3 thyroid nodules. Would this complicate surgery?
@estee23323 күн бұрын
So the dynamic between the calcium and the PTH levels determines the enlargement of the PT gland. The enlarged gland of which might be one or more of the four glands is determined by the relationship between the two and how they interact. Did I get this wrong? Thanks so much for explaining and if I got this wrong, let me know if you can.

If you think you have a parathyroid tumor don't give blood it confuses doctors, and you can't explain it to them. You have approximately 10 pints of blood and if you take one out it drops vitamins in the blood by about 10%. It will reduce the calcium in the blood along with Vitamin D. With a lower amount of vitamin D your calcium will have a slow start to climbing back up, but it will. You can't explain the process to doctors either. also, if you give blood your kidneys won't have much calcium to filter out into the urine and that confuses them as well. *Dr. Babak will tell you that without vitamin D you can absorb calcium. High calcium hinders Iron absorption. Just some food for thought.

Unsure what is my future, referred to Roswell Cancer Institute in two weeks. Unable to seek endocrinologist for 4 months! 😢 Any tests or surgeon I should seek? 😅

One thing I’ve noticed that the doctor hasn’t talked about is a possible remedy naturally rather than getting it surgically removed. Or speak of what’s the possibility why it’s happening. What I’ve learned and read about hyperparathyroidism is that it can be due to toxicity possibly. He haven’t mentioned anything about vitamin K2 that helped conduct pushing the calcium back to the bones or magnesium that help assist pushes calcium back to the bones or any of the minerals like iodine and boron as a possibility to try along with fasting for long period so your body can regenerate. Happy health to everyone.
@LarianMD6 ай бұрын
Hi Phoenix, primary hyperparathyroidism is caused by mutations in the DNA. And unfortunately we don’t know of any natural remedy that can reverse that. Vitamin D & K2 can decrease the impact on the bones and minimize bone loss, but don’t treat the original tumor
