Radio host Larry Elder joins Zuby today to discuss the West’s fatherless epidemic. The two kick things off with a review of conservative and liberal dynamics, the progression of California’s politics, and the brand perception of political parties in 2024. The two then turn to policy framing, our era of ‘looking vs doing good’, before a deep dive into fatherlessness and its impacts on young men today.

You're not wrong that 'connecting the dots' on policy outcomes is important for accurately communicating the message. But just understand that the message is going to be taken out of context regardless. Legacy/government media aren't going to stop lying to people. So, the only people hearing that whole context would be the people who already understand the whole context anyway. You're not wrong, it's just a much more difficult problem to get the (whole) message out to the people who actually need to hear it, as long as they're relying on legacy media for information.

For the social welfare reforms of the 50s and 60s, I encourage people to look into the man-in-the-house rule that was a part of the war on poverty. Essentially, you were denied welfare checks if you had a father or "substitute" father in the home. If your household was receiving welfare checks, occasionally you would get random visits from social workers that have dogs specifically trained to smell adult males if they were hiding. Like everything government, the policies are enforced with good intentions, but you also need to look into which groups advocated for it and how radical some of these people were. I'm a millennial, and a lot of my seniors (baby boomers) have talked about this to me because I have a family of my own and I take a lot of pride in being a father and husband. In their views, these policies were mostly intentional in destroying the family unit, especially when you look into the works of Kate Millett (radical feminist) and the New Left advocacy groups. Look into their views on the family unit, read their work, and it's pretty clear to me that... yeah, getting rid of the father/diminishing his role was definitely intentional from these groups.

Great conversation. Love the part about mentorship. Everyone needs a big homie, a Jason Wilson, a Myron Golden, a Thomas Sowel. Starts in the schools. Interschool mentorship programs start to build up there pipeline of ready mentors and receptive mentees. Also love your point in marketing. It needs to get younger. Let the older guys refine what's on the screen but they don't need to be the focus. Goes against the idea of family really.

Great interview! The problem with the political right is they are so culturally inept, and the left are masters at the PR game. Zuby talked about a branding problem with the Republican party, and while I agree with the sentiment, I just don't think that's it. One side, the Democrats, blatantly lies, as Zuby was listing off the lies that Democrats say about the Republicans. No amount of branding will change opinion in that way, as these people who have been lied to would have to admit that they were fooled.

We all can agree that fatherlessness is a problem however the real problem is the fathers who are abandoning both the mother and children. As for the immigration issue, as a man who is an immigrant and one that came to the US legally I'm disappointed that Zuby is buying to the false narrative around illegal immigration and its impacts on crime and employment. First off illegal immigrants do not take jobs from minorities and but instead are taking jobs minorities don't want to begin with. How many minorities do you honestly think want jobs in agriculture let alone construction, hardly any. As for the crime issue, native born individuals commit more crimes than illegals because there's no incentives for them to commit crimes because of the prospect of deportation and the illegal that do commit crime most like already have long history of criminal acts. I hate to throw my late brother under the bus, but he was example of a legal immigrant that got caught up in criminal activity.
