I'm just playing with the C.S software while I wait for the delivery of the Xtool S-1 Since I don't have a machine to hook to I don't get anything on the left side except the Connect device Icon. Is this normal or am I missing something. Thank you in advance if you have a suggestions. I'll wait on the tutorial I guess till it arrives.

You won't be able to play around with specific cut or engrave settings until a machine is connected. But you can work with all the settings on the top and left. So if you import a photo, you should be able to manipulate it and create designs. Once the machine is connected you can set specific cut and engrave settings.

Nice video. I noticed that your alignment on your blanks is spot on. The making setup was skipped and not shown. The square mark was used and not the circle. Do you find that that works better?

Thank you for the video. I followed your step-by-step instructions for the first wood example I have my settings identical to yours on power and speed gray scale lines per CM. It is not picking my photo up. Do you have an idea of why? It is jpg photo thank you

Every laser and material is a little different. You can always run a test array to see the gradient of engraving on your material. It could also be that the laser needs to be cleaned. The jpg shouldn't be an issue, sounds like your file is fine.

Great tutorial. I have a question I would like to know if you could answer. When you added the image it was a jpg file and the settings came up as power and speed. When I load a jpg or png file my setting s are dot duration, power, and dpi. Do you know how I can get power and speed settings when I upload a jpg as you have?

Are you using an F1 laser? Those have different settings because they are galvo style lasers. That should be the only ones that give you dot duration. If so, xTool has a great video on how to engrave images with the F1

Do you have to remove the background? Will backgrounds engrave also?

Anything that is in the photo will be engraved, so if you leave the background and want it there it will show up on your engraving.

My S1 will not auto distance measure. Do you know why this might happen? It's happening with both my S1 machines

Sometimes my distance probe on the side of the laser head will get bumped and need to be repositioned. Start there and make sure it's in place. You can also turn the machine off and on again. It could also be a software or firmware issue since it's both machines. Check and see if you are running the lastest version of both.

Which X Tool is better overall? The M1 or the S1?

Depends on what you want to do and what projects you want to make. The M1 has a lower watt laser but also has a blade like a Cricut. The S1 can go up to a 40W and has an IR module option.

The first photo look like a sepia color which is really good, but it might be because of the lighting

When you engrave with a diode on metal you can get an array of colors, it's really beautiful.
