I doubt destiny will see this, but the van Allen belt isn’t a conspiracy theory it’s actually a problem we still haven’t fully overcome. However back when we went to the moon they just risked it. That’s the answer the conspiracy theorists don’t grasp, we had less bureaucracy, and red tape, and were willing to risk people’s lives. If a massive solar flare were to have happened well they were on one of those lunar missions they all would have probably died. Today when talking about returning to the moon they are trying to make it were they are not depending on luck to make it safely, and the reason for this aside from red tape, is because the ultimate goal now is mars, and you can’t make it to mars by risking it, because the trip is too long, and you will 100 percent get hit, because solar activity is quite frequent. So the answer to the question of the van allen belt problem by conspiracy theorists is simply we took more chances in the past, and although it’s a real problem, with how good we are at detecting solar activity a trip to the moon doesn’t need a solution to the problem, but a trip to mars does, and that is the actual goal now, and why we want a real solution to the problem today.

[For Curious Parties] The Apollo missions overcame the challenges of extreme temperatures and micrometeorite threats on the moon through advanced engineering. To manage temperature variations, they used multi-layer insulation on spacecraft and spacesuits to reflect heat, with an active thermal control system maintaining stable conditions inside the spacecraft. Spacesuits had life support systems for temperature regulation, and missions were timed during lunar mornings to avoid peak heat. Reflective surfaces helped minimize solar heat absorption. For micrometeorite protection, spacecraft and spacesuits were designed with multi-layer shielding to deflect or absorb impacts. NASA calculated the micrometeorite risk as low and used statistical risk management, avoiding meteor showers by carefully timing missions. Redundant systems were in place to ensure survival in case of damage, allowing astronauts to operate safely in the moon’s harsh environment.

It's such a fascinating subject. Like any grand novel engineering project, so many brilliant people worked so hard for many years, quite literally hurling us forward technologically for years to come - all undermined by the uneducated "meh, seems too hard, I wouldn't be able to do this" line of reasoning... I've been consistently in awe during my engineering undergrad by the complexity of things we take for granted - like computer chips, or complex software, or manufacturing plants. Actually insulting seeing this "JAQing off" sessions - all the data is in the open these days...

It is just so weird to me that you would see the temperature of the Van Allen belt, look up the material of the shuttle, and then go "wow that's weird" and then instead of googling "how does the shuttle not melt going through the Van Allen belt?", people instead go on national platforms and go "I think the moon landings are a massive conspiracy theory because the Van Allen belt is so hot". Like how do you make that jump without at least doing the simplest search asking how it's possible? I can't even count the amount of things like that I look up a day. Just random stuff I'm curious about. And for so many people to hinge so many of their beliefs on things that could be answered in a fraction of a second is so weird.

@@Matt-gf4gd googling something doesn't necessarily make you well informed, but it does in fact make you MORE informed. The problem with a lot of conspriacy theorists is that they do absolutely 0 googling/research/anything to inform themselves about the established narratives they so whole-heartedly disagree with. They're just ignorant and wilfully so. Like, most flat earthers that thing gravity is a hoax, if they spent an afternoon just researching the topic they would come to the rational conclusion that there is in fact a force pulling you toward the ground. This is irrefutable. The problem is that they're too stupid to A: do the research in the first place, and B: do the research and conclude that they can still have other explanations for gravity while still believing in the flat earth. Googling is a good start to get your foot in the door to explore a topic. Most conspiracy theorists don't even take that first step.

@@98danielray It's such a frustrating statement to hear, because it is from someone who is a coward in defending their position and wants to convey how superior they are, but it makes no sense whatsoever. The person understands that nobody is correct all the time, and they think extrapolating that fact and attacking someone "who believes they are correct all the time" is a valid response. When in reality, they also believe they are always correct in the things they say, it's the human condition.

People who aren’t intelligent enough to understand anything other than the most direct and literal sentences, like allegory or symbolism, think that arguing for non-literal interpretations crumbles the entire validity of the texts. So they have to go to the extreme opposite pole and claim everything is literally true and factual to the letter, then try to make the rest of reality fit that.

Another embarrassing reason to pursue conspiracy theories is because of the FOMO of not belonging to the cool kids who can say they "always knew" when a rare secret gets uncovered 50 years later. So they throw shit at the wall until something sticks. Because there's no stakes to claiming that all scientists are wrong, while the internet points if you were proven right would be infinite. We praise individual people too much for standing up against the mainstream, instead of purely talking about what made their behaviour and deductions different from others who were misled, and what the mainstream should have done better. So the simpletons pursue fame and glory instead of rigid logic.
