3:47 THIS IS A VERY LONG IMPORTANT STORY FOR PPL WHO WANT TO BE PARENTS, TLDR AT BOTTOM: On the real though, my mom used to do this all the time and I have to say it was really good for my mental health. There were some days where I felt fine physically but I did *not* want to go to school and my mom always said "that's fine" and then called into the school & told them I was sick & got my homework for me. I still had to do the school work but I got to do it at my own pace and with as much or as little stimulation as I wanted. Since I had to still do the work I never overused this privilege but I used it when I needed it. And since my dad was a cabbie he made his own hours, I got to stay with him while he ran errands (sometimes he'd also take me to the park) and my mom went to work or school. I took a nap and woke up and my mom was home (my dad would pick her up and then go to work) One of my parents would teach me the material they got from the teacher then let me do my homework on my own. When my mom came home, she would ask me why I didn't want to go to school and if everything was alright and if I was just tired etc. She tried to fix things for me where she could but mostly just listened, let me watch TV and drink tea. Basically my mom was giving me a mental health day when I was in elementary school. She normalized self care for me and my siblings. That doesn't make you a bad parent that makes you a *_bomb ass parent_* in my not so humble opinion. TLDR: you can totally let your kids stay home from school on days that they "just don't want to" and it doesn't make you a bad parent, it makes you a parent that values their mental health.
