@Eilwyrm8 жыл бұрын
+Armand Miller Wrong, sort of. Arabs and Muslims are separate things. Arabs are an ethnic identity, and Muslims, or more specifically Islam, is a religion. There are a lot of Arab Muslims, yes, but they are not tied to each other. You can be Arab without being Muslim, and be Muslim without being Arab. For example, African Muslims are a large population, even within the U.S, not to speak of the whole world. You should really look into these things, you and a lot of other people in this chain.

It's kind of sad that after 15 years of American forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, most Americans don't know or care about what a hijab is.
@SedonaHealthCoach8 жыл бұрын
It is from Arabic culture. Qur'an say says nothing about a hijab. Long before Mohammad, Arab kings would see a beautiful woman and steal her for his harem. They started to cover up their property so the king wouldn't know what she looked like and they stopped getting stolen off the street. So how did it get mixed up with religion? Control of women!
@JusmaVids8 жыл бұрын
Perhaps you missed the part that it is her own choice. No one is forcing her as an adult. In a country where Child Support can knock on your doors for physically punishing your child, surely this adult would have much more and the ability to exercise her civil rights.
@SingularityofPower8 жыл бұрын
something most women are forced to wear around the world to symbolise subservience to the husband. She may have a choice in this but for 100's of millions of women in the muslim world there is no choice. I refuse to accept wearing a full black niqab in the humidity of malaysia or the summer of India is a sign of empowerment. It's nothing short of oppression.
@arbknight128 жыл бұрын
There's something the haters need to know. In a lot of Muslim families, wearing the hijab is a CHOICE. A choice Muslim women make on their own. And women are treated with the upmost dignity and respect. In my family, my younger sister doesn't wear the hijab, and my parents don't give her grief about it. My older sister took off hers before going into law school, and my parents gave her no grief. Not all Muslims are like the psychopaths in Daesh.
@gryffindor_weasley34768 жыл бұрын
yesss!!! exactly. I don't wear it but my aunt does idk why its a big deal anyway. I have muslim friends who only wear it while coming to school but don't wear it when they are out at picnics and their parents don't care... I feel very weird when I see people commenting on hijab and islam when they have never even met a muslim in their life like 'so you know more about my lifestyle than I do, please carry on' xD its hilarious and sad at the same time

it's just a shame that a genuinely pleasant person must conform to arbitrary gender rules by religion, setting up unnecessary barriers. Lots of Muslim women do miss out on opportunity, like sports, for this reason. Ibtihaj is merely an outlier
@carterroane10348 жыл бұрын
+Hector Ramirez For most women the Hjiab is a choice. It isn't this gender role that is forced on you. It's just a thing women sometimes do to preserve modesty.

+RockedCasbah a choice? lmao. It's a sign of womens subjection to men. That's all it plain and simple. For most Muslim women it isnt a choice. Only in the West is it a choice. A verse from the Quran: "let them wear their head-coverings over their bosoms, and not display their ornaments except to their husbands or their fathers"
@carterroane10348 жыл бұрын

What the heck is a real Muslim? Basing it off your notion- no one is a real Christian, no one is a real Jew, no one is a real Buddhist, etc.
@TheMagicToyChest8 жыл бұрын
A real Muslim is usually an ethnic Arab, Turk, Persian, Indian, African, etc. whose family originated from the so-called "Dar al-Islam" or Islamic Lands. They are Muslims because they want to surrender to Allah under the guidance of Muhammad. Ibtihaj Muhammad comes from an African American family with no ties to the Islamic East who's parents PROBABLY (I don't know, but I'm guessing based off of social trends in America) converted to Islam in the 60's as part of the whole Malcom Little movement of rejecting "the slave name and religion". She's as much of a Muslim as Cassius Clay (known popularly as Muhammad Ali), which is to say not a real one. African Americans can't be real Muslims. It's ridiculous, pathetic, and ultimately hilarious when they think converting to Islam is some kind of "black power" or whatever bullshit they call it one day or the next.

Fencing is a sport for those with a noble spirit. Why do you think there are so few of us? Because we're not cool? Because we look lame? Because swordplay is...old? Chivalry to most people is dead as well but there are still a few who abide by those stoic set of rules. The few, the proud. Being what they want to be and doing what they want to do. Being true to themselves unlike those bandwagon mainstream sport goers. I know Ibtihaj as a fencer and she has played her part to represent the U.S...to those punks who say bad things about Muslims or any other minorities, I have one question, what the hell have you done for your country other than talking shit? Epee fencer but sabreur at heart. I still don't agree with most Muslim tradition just like that scarf they wear...but it's her choice.

Thats the thing with people like you. You generalize too much. Not all Muslims are the same just like how not all Americans are the same. A good example is me and "possibly" you? Some of us actually abide by the movement that the founding fathers tried to relate to us, the latter generation, while some of "us" totally disregarded those articles. You know #5 and #14, right? I'm an American, I believe them to true and worth upholding. It's actually common sense, you on the other hand...what are you? An offspring of some Confederate? Those who hold views similar to Confederates aren't Americans you know, they are losers. So what the hell are you doing in our country? We need to build walls to keep people like you out and we're going to make YOU GUYS pay for it! We GOT to make America GREAT again! HAHAHA! Oh right, your question was what have I done for this country? Not much, it's not even worth mentioning but I'll tell you anyways. I'm doing what I've done to you. This is what I've done for America. Now go read the Constitution you fraudulent American. Spread the love!

what is your stand on immigration from iran, Afghanistan, or other Muslim countries.
@nelly35788 жыл бұрын
ricky agyekum We should grant asylum to all the people who worked for the united states armed forces in both iraq an Afghanistan as we did in Vietnam. We should allow more refugees into the country and finally anyone from those countries should be able to enter the USA with a visa after proper screening on the embassy like almost every other country in the world
@ozymandias83468 жыл бұрын
Antonella Weisner but how would we stop isis from coming if we do not change our immigration testing ? I am just wondering because i a moderate trying to decide on who to vote for. I am afraid of isis. Hillary barely talk about immigration. She said she will follow obama. And Obama deported more people than bush. So Hillary is the same as trump. So i more concerned about Hillary than trump. Since Hillary has the wisdom to get laws passed while trump barely do.
@nelly35788 жыл бұрын
ricky agyekum There are screenings on the embassies, list of questions and background checks. However trumps policies are more dangerous but I don't like Hillary either. If you ask me who would I vote for it would be for Johnson and a democrats candidate for congress on the midterm. But if you want my advice you shouldn't ask a 16 years old girl on the internet about it. Just read about policy and look into each candidate pass and make up your own mind. I just hope your mind doesn't think Trump
@ozymandias83468 жыл бұрын
Antonella Weisner things are sometimes subjective. Back ground check are always not us accurate as they can be. And they can just hire someone from somewhere to do it and take his family hostage. There could bribe people to do it. Johnson is a great choice. I semi agree with libertarian. But not extreme libertarian with total hatred for government. But thanks.

I am a muslim woman and I don't wear a hijab nor I intend to... Hijab or burka or nikabs are more popular in arab countries. For example in non-Arab countries like Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Turkey, Indonesia etc. Not as many women wear these things. Even in arab countries only some require you to 'definitely' wear it. Honestly hijab ain't a big deal in the rest of Islamic countries or countries with muslim population.All I am trying to say is that there are 1.6 billion Muslims all around the world and they all have different lifestyles depending on where we live. So please don't judge us all as one homogeneous group.... Thank you 😊

Well thats great to know. The hijaab is still a beautiful thing tho
@Djoawd8 жыл бұрын
***** It depends on if you are a boy or a girl. If you are a boy you will most likely understand a man's nature a bit better. Basically this is the same reason why a man can walk around with no shirt on and a woman cant walk around with her boobs out. Is that discrimination? It should be if you take your logic, yet humanity has decided so by instinct. The reason why I personally find the hijaab beautiful is because it takes away all the 'distractions' and makes a man appreciate a woman for who she is in the most pure form
@Djoawd8 жыл бұрын
***** Without even realizing you are stating subjective things as fact. Who decided man breasts are or arent sexual? Who decided women boobs are or arent sexual? Its decided by nature and instinct at the end of the day. Islam/god aknowledged human nature. I would say that rapists are 99% men. Its because the sexual urges differ between the 2 genders. God aknowledges that. Ofcourse he does, because the creator does know best about his creations after all The woman in the video explained that hijaab isnt just covering the hair. Its covering that which captures the attention of a man in a way that he doesnt look at her in a pure way. In example a man's gaze would be is a lot less distracted.

I personally don't wear it but one of friends does and wearing it does not make her different from the rest of my muslim friends who don't wear it... in the end its just a piece of clothing, to each their own.. if she likes wearing it, who am I to object. However there are many muslim families out there who do force their daughters, sisters, mothers or wives to wear it and I don't support that but I can tell you that majority of women who cover their heads do it themselves... I am not saying to ignore where women get mistreated or get forced into wearing it, no speak out against it I am with you but at the same time if some of them want to wear it, we should let them rather than assuming that they are being 'oppressed' or accusing them of extremism.

Jeea Im only reacting to the first part. It makes sense that she isnt different for you.Also in the eyes of Allah she is the same as well, but I can guarantee you that it makes a difference for men. Do you think it makes a difference if a woman wears wide clothes or tight clothes to a man?
@iisuperstarii73108 жыл бұрын
I love her. She's so pretty and sweet. I don't see why either a feminist or a Republican would have a problem with this. As a woman she chose to cover up and the fact that she'll be in the Olympics is just all the more girl power. As a Republican you think the government shouldn't interfere. So both parties should be fine with this if not rooting for her. But aside from that I thought she was a lovely guest and it was nice to see.

Who would've guessed that all the comments would be focusing on her clothing and religious beliefs instead of the sport and her performance or personality or something that isn't so damn predictable and small minded. I was raised in a muslim family and we had full freedom. my mom wasn't lesser than my dad, we didn't have to wear a hijab and we didn't even have to be muslim. neither me or my sisters are muslims anymore and follow different religions and have been doing so for more than 10 years. there's never been any tension (well there was some at first, but that would be expected in all families) or any death threats either. take a walk outside and see the world as it really is and don't give too much credence to news channels (both liberal 'pro muslim' and conservative 'anti muslim') or propaganda on reddit and whatever. they don't represent the world as it really is.
