1994-2004 Mustang Cobra Rear Brake Conversion - How To

Landan reviews the Ford Performance M-2300-M Cobra Rear Brake Conversion with SVE Cobra style calipers before installing them on our 2004 Mustang gt project car Keeping Comp!
If you are looking for increased braking performance to match your OE Cobra style front brakes, this rear brake caliper bracket kit is for you! This kit is used to install 11.65" rear Cobra rear brakes onto your 1994-04 Mustang GT. From the factory, Cobra, Bullitt, and Mach 1 Mustangs came with larger vented rear brakes compared to their GT sibling. These rotors measure over 1" larger than the factory Mustang brakes and provide additional cooling with their cooling vanes.
These SVE Black Rear Cobra brake calipers are a direct replacement for 1994-2004 Cobra's but can be a great upgrade to a 1994-2004 Mustang GT with minor modification. They can also be used to convert a 1979-1993 Foxbody mustang to rear disc brakes using the disc brake conversion brackets LRS-2100A-K.
Ford Performance Cobra Rear Brake Conversion notes:
-Will not work as a Fox rear disc conversion.
-Requires Cobra-specific brake calipers. GT/V6 calipers will not work with these rotors.
SVE Rear caliper notes:
-These rear calipers are a direct fit replacement for 94-04 Mustang Cobra.
-These rear calipers work for 94-04 GT and V6, retaining the GT/V6 rotor and axle flange bracket if the included Cobra pads are swapped out for GT/V6 pads.
-If using these calipers to upgrade a GT to 11.65" Cobra rotors, you will need the Cobra-specific axle flange bracket. This bracket is available new in kit # M2300M, or you will have to source them from a donor car.

all rear calipers are the same. cobra, gt, base. they are all 38mm calipers. the only difference is the caliper bracket.

Is there a difference in thickness between the GT rear brake pads and the Cobra rear brake pads? Since the GT has a thinner solid rotor and the Cobra has a thicker vented rotor. Thanks

Yes, there is a thickness difference between V6/GT and Cobra rear brake pads. The only brand of pad I've personally measured has been Hawk pads. The caliper bodies are the same and have a 38mm piston. The caliper brackets, caliper mounting brackets, and anti-moan braces are different. -Landan V6/GT rear pad thickness: .660" Cobra rear pad thickness: .585"

@@latemodelrestoration thanks for replying with your research and findings Landan. I asked because I have the 99 Cobra IRS swapped into my 95 Mustang. I had difficulty installing the rear pads and once i got them in, they dragged to the point of charring the powder coat on the rotors until the pads clearanced themselves. The rear pads are Stoptech street select part no:305.06270
