Jake’s my favorite Ozzy guitar player. This was an excellent lesson 👏 Would love to see a deep dive of The Ultimate Sin riffs/fills. Never Know Why & Lightning Strikes particularly stand out for me.

Hi from France Dear David. I ain't no real guitar player (been playing Bass for a wee while) but I subscribed to your Channel (& Patreon) just for the sake of listening to your anecdotes, your crystal clear explanations ... etc... that allows me to try and play guitar a Little. Keep safe and Keep it up, you definitely Rock Sir ! Best Regards Luc, France 🇨🇵

I think, with Ozzy’s health issues, and the recent shooting, a lot of people are looking at his work with Ozzy- for myself, his playing was every bit as influential, and important to Ozzy’s rise to solo fame as Saint Rhoads. Sadly, though, he has never really has the recognition for his contributions. Even when Ozz was inducted, they had a video retrospective, and Jake wasn’t even mentioned. It was really disrespectful. Here’s hoping he gets a resurgence of popularity, and his next musical project blows everyone away

Genuinely shocked to hear about Jake, OMG, so glad he's still around! Bark at the Moon was a totally quality album and Jake was next level - you covered the Suicide Solution live solo from Salt Lake City video and thast a monster set of legendary chops too! Thanks as ever for not growing up - you keep us all young! :o)

Great video, David! Jake is my 2nd favorite Ozzy guitarist behind Randy but a very close 2nd! His playing and solos are really complicated, if you look at Ultimate Sin too - Killer of Giants, Fool Like You. And he’s a great funny guy. Love his interviews. Glad he’s doing okay! And thanks for the continued great content, David. Awesome channel!

Jake is one of my guitar heroes and I try to get the more info about hs playing Because when I was a kid I could only try with the casette tape or the vinyl and no guitar classes and teacher. No youtube No tabs for the thrd world. I would love another episode of Jakes solos in a sort of outros he did but cant barely heARD while fade at the end

I got to tell you a cool story the song rumbling train I was cruising back from Colorado Springs and I was rolling into Palmer Lake just north of Monument when I had my cassette tape which I just plugged in when I was rolling back to Denver heading towards Larkspur and sure enough powering up with its 3 diesel engine train coming right around the corner into Palmer Lake when that song started playing the speed limit through Palmer Lake is like 30 Mi an hour and the train was probably about 50 ft to the right going north on the tracks saw the whole time the song was playing rumbling train there was a rumbling train riding right next to me while that song was playing as we rolled through Palmer Lake it doesn't get any cooler than that talk about having some side sound effects with that essence of that song talk about Superior awesomeness oh yeah oh yeah I'll never forget it

Great lesson as always. On Lick #9, Jake doesn’t tap - it’s all harmonics. He does pull offs while the right hand is over the fretboard creating the harmonics. This can be seen in live footage from a show he did with Ozzy in Dortmund, Germany.

Referring to Dimebag...it is just unbelievable. You made, as always, an awesome job. In 1984 I was sittin with a Beta Video recording looking at his fingers in slowmotion in order to find out what the hell is happening-
@jeddakАй бұрын
2:53 That lick is a lot like the lick from Iron Maiden's _Back In The Village_ (which I always thought sounded a bit like the intro to Michael Schenker's instrumental, _Captain Nemo_ ).
@timjones8754Ай бұрын
good stuff - I have seen another take on that last lick where it is just pull offs on the G and D strings (G.4-2-0 then D.4-2-0) but you get the crazy pitching by laying your finger across the 9th fret then 7th fret to pull out harmonics - it works!

Luv your channel. You teach what I already know. I don't have the patience to teach anyone. I despise Ozzy for ripping off Jake e. Lee. Luv him in Sabbath. Thanks for sharing David ! Jake E. Lee is one of my favorite guitarists of all time
@mikelopez1430Ай бұрын
I learned that last lick as a natural harmonic trick where you pull off 9-7-0 on g string with fretting hand over and over as you use a finger on your pick hand to lightly lay over the strings and go up and down the neck over a sweet spot that picks up the harmonics. Not near my guitar so I can’t remember if your right hand reaches over the pick hand and behind it or if it happens in front of the pull off.

Jake E Lee's Badlands work is fantastic. Although i can't say the same about his Ozzy stuff, it seems to me that he was holding something back when he was with Ozzy, and i can't see why people rate it at all,. . But when he got his own band, Badlands, it all comes out, the energy, riffs, soloing are all amazing!-

Jake had that move where he'd us his thumb as a fretting digit to get an obscene stretch on the neck
@johnnylayton1672Ай бұрын
This is actually a common move by classical cellists & double bassists most common where the fingerboard extends over the instrument body. Of course for them the move is far more ergonomic, but I often wonder if Jake spent some time on cello as a kid to be inspired to do that trick on guitar.

Dave hope one time you can do some lesson on how Jake had to improvise the Mr Crowley intro on guitar as Don Airey was sick and could not play the keyboards. Jake said no problem and did the entire intro on his guitar, and sounded as if he wrote that. We never even heard Randy play an intro version of the keyboards on guitar.
@dominicgibson9529Ай бұрын
Great as usual but...that first tapping fill toward the end uses an open G, and then the final fill he uses harmonics doing pull offs on the G and D string while using first finger of the right hand over the 9th and 7th frets. Try it out, Dave, and see what you think.

Jake is just as good as Randy. Ozz made a big mistake in nurturing his talent. I particularly love how you highlighted this song. I think it is an underrated gem on bark at the moon. I was watching another video on the insane tuning he used on shot in the dark a few hours before i saw your video. I would not mind seeing your point of view and take on that song at all.
