You gotta try Steak 48. They were the original owners of mastros. When they sold the restaurant to the current owners, they had to sign a non compete and weren’t allowed to open a steakhouse for 20 years( not exactly sure of the years). Their non compete ended and they finally opened steak 48

Mastros went downhill when Landry’s bought them. Landry’s now owns a ton of chain steakhouses, including Morton’s, The Palm, Del Friscos and others. The quality of the meat seems to have gone downhill after they acquired these once great steakhouses. As others have commented, the Mastro family has opened new steakhouses such as Steak 48 and Ocean 48 that are top notch and use much better quality meat. Those are definitely worth checking out.

It sucks, I was a chef there years ago and we could wear gloves, I told my manager that I had a severe jock infection and I needed to go to the restroom so I could put some ointment on it, she said that we was to busy, my hand stayed down in my pants scratching, I didn't think about washing my hands, didn't have the time .

Ahhh, thanks for that info. I wondered what happened to the quality because we did notice a difference. We were also VERY disappointed when they removed the sauteed pea pods from the menu. It was a very popular item and we too always ordered it. I couldn’t get a straight answer when we asked them about it. Would’ve understood if it was due to supply/seasonal issues, but they gave zero acceptable responses. Now I guess we will definitely try the other two you mentioned that the original moved to. Thank you.

Mastros LA is one of their newest restaurants, that's been hit or miss. Should have gone to the one in Beverly Hills. Steak 48 Beverly Hills. Ruth Chris Long Beach and Morton's cajun ribeye.

I’m not gonna hold you. When it comes to Steakhouses any type of chain joint is not anything worth visiting (Ruth Chris is probably like the only chain joint that’s up there). If I’m in the mood for steak I’m hitting Cut in Beverly Hills or Golden Steer in Vegas. But Peter Luger in NYC is the best steak no doubt. If you gonna pay steakhouse prices you might as well go with the best
