More to come! We've decided to make the videos more project based and not like weekly updates. At first this worked really well but since so much happened in the shipyard time the video time and real time drifted apart. Also making it more difficult for us. Anyway, speaking about projects not that much happened during the last few months so we will probably return to real time quite soon.

If I may pass on some advice that was given to me by a man who fought in the Vietnam War and was a biker for his entire life. He told me to not worry about money but to find something that I truly loved to do and in time the money would come or be there. You keep the quality and quantity of videos coming and your channel will grow. You will definitely have to put more effort and time into it than you will ever get back but there will come a time when you suddenly realize the benefits of everything you have done and the money will be their.

I offer my most sincere congratulations on getting this far with Flying Coney. I am still concerned that you may be about 10 years too late. I hate to be negative, but my thoughts are only for your safety in the voyages to come. It is essential that you have 💯 confidence in your ship before you embark on a deepwater voyage anywhere. If you have any doubts, it need not spell the end of everything, you can still make shorter trips staying close to the coast and possible rescue. Back to the positive side of things, I think Coney is already a beautiful vessel to admire and enjoy! ❤❤

As Albert says there was a fifty fifty chance and there was a reason why we haven't completely launched her. But in the water it's very unlikely for a hole to open up, the reason why we had them was because of all the welding.

Wow I was just joking about the leaks last time but you found a huge hole. Good thing that the wood did not pop out and flying Cooney go straight to the bottom. Well I really do not understand how rivets can hold a hull together without leaking. Anyway best wishes . So much work for you. This time go around with a hammer and test everything on the ship's hull sound is the best way to tell if an area is rotten. Just try to ground and prime and paint where you weld. The paint will just fall off there from the heat. .

I would never have, even if I could, have taken on such a challange! I am not here to critisize, just to follow the journey and learn. You have chosen to do so and I respect your choice and fortitude. It looks like the people you are working with are a really great team of professionals doing their best for you. Coney (a name for a rabbit we in the UK still use) has some historical merit, which in and of itself captured my interest, I am also following the exploits of two other boat rebuilt exploits, a Wharram Pahi because I have always been a huge fan of James' designs and a certain Fastnet winner. Both of wooden but very different construction.The later being a sailing historical treasure. I'm sure you can work out which channels I refer too. So having introduced myself it remains only to state I will be following you in the days, months and years to come and thank you for the content, I know how much time the production of these videos take from you reconstruction efforts, they are very well made and very much appreciated. Thank you.

Each subscription, view, like and comment makes a difference! Especially since you come from cannel of a certain Englishman rebuilding a wooden boat shows us that we're moving in the right direction. The name of the boat is a reference to a few things, first it's a reference to the famous Tea Clippers, like the Flying Cloud. Flying Coney shares some similarities like she was built with steel frames and wooden planks and in my opinion she even has similar lines... The "Flying" is a reference to our past in the Nacra 17 class and the "Coney" is because we just love those long eared cute animals and you never say rabbit on a boat. All the best and thanks for watching!

The hole where the water was dripping through was directly under the wood. Of course you open up the hole as much as possible to get to healthy steel. Unfortunately because of all the welding a second hole opened up and that's why we had to take to boat out. But these holes always open up because of the welding and are not a safety issue once the boat is in the water. But I wouldn't weld on the hull while the boat is in the water....

Wow. Only one missed hole in how many square mitres of Hull that's on your ship and how much work you've done. In Australia there'd be a cattle dog looking straight into camera saying "bugger". Cattle dogs, there like that. My wife and I have a red cattle dog who rolls eyes and sighs as well. Also no one ever knows what they're getting into regardless of what there getting into. You're not on your own there. Your going well.

Thank you! jan really hoped to be able to fix the tube while we're still half way in. Unfortunately an imperfection in the steel caused the second hole. But all in all, no big deal. Side note, exchanging the tube would've cost more than the rest of the shipyard time all together 😱 You're from Australia?

@@FlyingConey yes there's time when you have to accept what can be done within the limits of a reasonable budget. Yes I'm from Australia. My mother was German but I only speak English. My wife and I live ina small town in the Queensland Bush. It gets down to 0 degrees here in winter but I've never seen the cold you talk of.
@FlyingConey

Here in The Netherlands it also is below 0 degrees but it's cold, windy and damp. Back when I was at school in Austria we had nights reaching -25... We hope with a more pragmatic approach we can make more progress in the future. Visible change at the boat is important, not only to make better videos but also for us.

The water was very cold so Coney preferred to first tip her toe in before she is ready to make a real splash.

Before she is accepted to be a sailing ship she has to comply with the Dutch rules about being safe . And i can tell you , these rules are very strict . Without having her certificate, which is called "CVO" here in the Netherlands , she is banned from even moving under her own power . So i can assure you she will be a safe ship !!

@FlyingConey
@FlyingConey Жыл бұрын
It's only partly winter in the video because so much happened in the shipyard that it took us some time to get all the videos out. Boat was launched at the end of November.

She looks a bit low in the stern. Why is that?
@FlyingConey
@FlyingConey Жыл бұрын
Because she isn't fully floating, still sitting on the cart. Once she is fully launched she's floating level 😉

It looks very good😂😂, are you going to do the electric check to prevent an other corrosion problem?
@FlyingConey
@FlyingConey Жыл бұрын
We solved it by disconnecting everything and having no electric system anymore. We still try to find a good electrician... The reason why the corrosion damage occurred was probably because the previous owner had connected his two ships together and also because he mixed two types of anodes.

Have in mind that we basically draw the waterline freehanded with not many remains of the old one existing so it was kind of guess work. But in my opinion the result isn't bad.

@@FlyingConey yer I saw that. We would scratch a water line in the hull before removing the old , but that was timber boat resto. You ship is fascinating. I can’t wait to see it rigged up.
