This podcast helps with marriage situations that don’t even look the same as yours. Thank you for sharing honesty and transparency. Question for Carl: It seems like you had to make a lot of mental shifts to learn how to properly love and communicate with your wife after all that had happened. Can you elaborate on what some of those shifts were and how you started to practically change your thought patterns?

Hey guys. Firstly, Carl, many years ago your sister was my youth director. I went to leadership school where did too. We’ve met multiple times. Love you man. Secondly, my wife and I are in a resurrection phase of our marriage after going through same stuff. Just reversed roles. Jesus is amazing on so many levels. It’s awesome hearing you and Laura get real. We appreciate it so much. Praying for you both as you continue the journey.

Hubbs and I are healing through something similar, betrayal, and hidden porn addiction, though not public. I’ve prayed and cheered for your family since day one. I was so grateful for those that spoke up and had your back in the very beginning and wanted to offer room for your healing. Y’all, there were those of us, even in Cincinnati OH (Shameless plug for my Reds, Bengals and Crossroads church) that knew without hesitation that God was gonna use your story for HIS glory. Laura… Badassery… all day every day. You have been as inspiring and pivotal for me as I navigated our mess as ppl like Cindy Beal were. You’re a rockstar and Jesus is SO proud to call you His! Carl, your always authentic approach to growing, and doing the HARD work has actually knocked my husband and I right on our hind ends. I have been in and out of therapy for years but was never willing to aggressively address a series of childhood sexual traumas I was subjected to. I sort of just assumed they were “covered” by proxy with the other work I’d done around codependency, etc.. I realized in a stand still moment last week after watching your podcast with your therapist, that I can’t pretend those things aren’t impacting my identity any longer. I’m 47 years old with 4 grown children, and I need to up my healing game NOW. I started with a new, more qualified provider that very next day. I too had developed an addiction to adderall which I’d been prescribed for years. It’s as if God has walked me through your family’s experience to equip me for my next season of healing work. I’m so ready. Thank you .. all FIVE of you! You are our families encouragement. We’d ask you to pray for us as we individually do the same hard work you two have. ❤

Hey Carl and Laura, I’ve watched all your episodes here. What I see from you all is a foundation rebuilt to last with Jesus at the centre!! You all (including your kids) surrendered totally in a difficult space in time. The is powerful! On another note, this cost 💲 money, time, patience, honesty and faith. No one mentions the money part‼️ Tell us it’s monetarily expensive too💛

I just wanted to share a quote from R.Rolheiser’s "Forgotten among the Lilies": "We need a theology of brokeness. (…) We need a theology which tells us that 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th chance are as valid as the 1st one. (…) We need a theology which teaches us that God loves us as sinners and the task of Christianity is not to teach us how to live, but to teach us how to live again, and again, and again." (p. 145)

This has been such a beautiful example of restoration. The Bible deals with restoration of imperfect people all the time and for you guys to be willing to share that road. The process. The pain. The rediscovery of your path as people who choose one another day to day and falling in love again- in a version of yourselves God always had in mind. 🥂 I’m so happy to see you guys walking thousands- into the vein of hope, like this. All the best, but especially to our 🇦🇺 koala ! Laura Lentz is HER But also, fire crewneck L.L.

So helpful, thank you. With regards to disclosure: I think it is something to consider from a forgiveness perspective. To know the scope of what you are forgiving but also for your mourning process. So whatever you need to know to mourn your losses and be aware of the fullness of that which you are choosing to forgive. Otherwise I feel like you have to go through the process again at deeper levels, which I guess kid of happens in many regards as we don't always realize how deeply it impacts us and then you have to forgive at a different level. But there is definitely a point at which you are just hurting yourself, discerning that point is not easy.

I was sharing about this podcast today w/ my friend, as we’re both going through seasons of walking out marriage separations & trying to conclude if we should try to 💯 reconcile our marriages or not. And, I said, “I’m seeing their situation through a new Lents (lense).” Props to you Carl for modeling what every man of God should do when he loses his wife’s trust in big ways - like viewing porn. Unfortunately, I feel like my spouse falls under the ⛳️ category, though, he gave it a shot I guess. I’m heartbroken over this reality. Hearing your story is bringing me healing in ways, & I know that if he would walk out a similar process y’all, I could experience even more healing. 😩 If you could pray that Jon would have an awakening & that begin to pursue his own personal healing journey it’d be much appreciated. Y’all are a blessing to this generation. Thank you.

I appreciate all the work that you have put into growing and healing. You have so much of value to give, so much wisdom from your lived experience, and I love that you are serving others in this podcast , wanting to help others who are in pain. I’m so thankful that you are sharing your story of the healing journey you and your family are walking out. Thank you for being honest and sharing the process of getting therapy and learning how to get back on track. I do have a question. At the end of this podcast Laura said, “That sounds like you’re preaching and you can’t do that anymore.” I don’t understand…look at all the people Jesus used…they were imperfect people that the Lord restored. I look at the Bible and am so thankful that Hod allowed us to see he uses the imperfection of men to redeem, heal, restore and to use to bring healing to others. If we allow God to heal and restore us he will use our Mess to become our MESSAGE!! Thanks again for opening up and sharing the power of Gods FORGIVENESS and RESTORATION!🙏🏻🙌🏼

Well Carl, that lady you mentioned at the beginning was indeed right, you can learn from David's story, look at Joseph's story, and these are like beacons in our life. God out these in the Bible to have something to learn from. This doesn't mean we cannot fall to temptations, but these are marks left for us .

Thank you thank you thank you . I was the betrayer . 5 years ago . I was broken but was saved by the GRACE of Jesus . The greatest and most powerful gift . Yes true repentance through the power of Jesus is the only way to heal and to save a marriage and oneself . So many thoughts and experiences I could share . Hearing you both share is such a powerful blessing. Authentic and practical. My decision caused so much hell and pain for my spouse and there are days I hate myself for the choice I made . GRACE . My wife still struggles with grace for me , yes she weaponizes my transgression , so any advice on how we can put that to rest ?? My wife and are still together. Always a work in progress . Peaks and valleys . Committed and loyal . Trusting and loving .not always easy. Again . Thank you for letting God work through you and inspiring hope .

I’ve heard some well meaning people say that Carl probably shouldn’t be in church leadership anymore but I think there’s something about that that weakens the gospel. I think that the lesson that we can learn from your experience is that anyone in a leadership position (and anyone in general) needs a pretty “thick” community. Some people can get away with a Lone Ranger lifestyle because their weaknesses are easily disguised. The truth is we all need people to walk tightly with us and in that kind of environment no one is disqualified from leadership.

One thing for sure about their marriage is that he is never going to be bored that caused him to do infidelity. Their focus is toward God now. They should be working and praying together whenever the past is overwhelming them. Many wives decide to stay or stuck with spouse for their kids or financial reasons too. Her case is not uncommon but the difference for her is that their life was like celebrities in public. So her anger is not only for husband but also toward people who were judging her. If she had given up on him, they would never have experienced the new journey that brings them together. It is wise to be survivors than suicidal. Human can make mistake on huge or small things but transcending trauma is never easy. Keep up the good work focusing God. God bless you two

As Christian believers we have a choice to choose marriage or divorce when the spouse is unfaithful! Jesus knew how hard hearted mankind can be! When both man and wife are willing to reunite in a marriage when one is unfaithful that is powerful and I know that God is honored that we can reconcile and return to a loving relationship! It takes a ton of forgiveness! Not everyone can trust again! However if you can forgive &trust again that is very special and unique!

Everything sounds great! But the thing is that you can go through therapy and understand what were the causes and effects of the problem but the only one who can change you is God and is the least that I’m hearing in the podcast (interviews). Also I don’t hear them talking about how people felt used and exploited in there church. I don’t particularly trust a person that starts many conversations with “I wanted to die” because it’s almost like appealing for people empathy, but thanks God Laura trust him because I couldn’t, if been a Pastor, been in the spotlight didn’t stop him and it happened when Laura was feeling like everything was fine, what could stop him now? Also the fact that it happened for a longtime… but there’s nothing impossible for God.

Lovingly Lentzs...words do matter and they matter to the Lord our God in Jesus Christ. We are called to be holy as He is holy. Our feelings are not included in God's commands. Jesus loved Peter His disciple and knew his cussing (and knife wielding) ways needed to be put away and tamed. Praying for God's continued love and wisdom as you are on your path to healing in Jesus' name : Ephesians 5:1-6 [1] Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; [2] and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. [3] But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints; [4] and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. [5] For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. [6] Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. James 3:7-12 [7] For every species of beasts and birds, of reptiles and creatures of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by the human race. [8] But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. [9] With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God; [10] from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be this way. [11] Does a fountain send out from the same opening both fresh and bitter water? [12] Can a fig tree, my brethren, produce olives, or a vine produce figs? Nor can salt water produce fresh. Be well and be at peace

How is he not humble? Even if they only help one person, I'm sure it's worth it. Obviously, they will help more. Isn't that worth more than your critical spirit. It's ok for you to step away from being bold behind a phone or computer, not facing the person with your criticism, and seek God on your own heart.
