This song means a lot to me for several reasons. I found it kind of eerie that the two lyrics she saved for years and plugged into the song are the same lyrics that resonate the strongest for me. I lost my high school best friend very unexpectedly on New Year’s Day three years ago today. He was a clown that made everyone laugh, you couldn’t help but have a great time anytime you hung out. His laugh? It is irreplaceable and contagious. It was impossible to not laugh if he laughed. It’s one of the things I miss the most. It’s also one of the strongest and brightest memories I have of him, so naturally I hold on to them dearly. Needless to say this song, definitely has a lot of emotional attachment to it. I had a best friend and by the time Rep was released I got her to listen to every song and she loved New year's day. Things got a bit rough and now we could barely even look at each other in the eye. Awww Lauren, this made me so emotional. 😢 I totally agree with you when you said that this song hits you home, coz that's what I also felt when I listen to it. I admit, the first few times I hear it, I thought its just another sweet love song for Joe but when I had that moment where I just sat and listen to the lyrics, I instantly felt Taylor's message. I was surprised when you said squeezing the hand 3 times hit you home coz i also visualized my mom upon hearing that. NYD is a love song but we have to remember that this one's created by THE GREAT TAYLOR SWIFT. We are always fascinated by how she choose the right words to a song. I mean, look what she did. A love song that does not just mean a romantic love but can also be a love for your parents or your best friend or.. anybody that touches your life. There are lot of poets worldwide, they may even create more poetic words but Taylor's attack on her works os what makes her totally different from the rest. Her words are simple but the way she arranges it to make songs is what makes them sensible and oh so relatable. That's how she got us all. Okay I already said a lot, i just love TayTay too.
