Nice review but geeez ... I don't see the advantage of the a fixed IO plate, neither a front type C connector or even hybrid connectors if it makes the price go up. This seems a well balanced mobo in terms of features and price. Let's not "unbalance" it, please.
@Laurentschoice2 жыл бұрын
Oh .... the fixed io plate saved my life so many times!!!
@MrCroky1232 жыл бұрын
@@Laurentschoice , never got to use one ever XD Not fixed IO plates, they come with the motherboard, they are mounted with the motherboard and they are removed if you swap the motherboard. I mean, unless you have the need to keep the motherboard and you just forgot to put in the same place, I see no hassle at all. That's is if you ever need that motherboard again. In such case it means you have plenty of hardware around. And I mean so plenty you can't organize it. Which in the end means someone working in the hardware business. That amounts to a tiny amount of people with such needs. Most people don't care about this detail. I mean, it probably is better with a fixed IO plate, I won't argue against that but that's actually meaningless if you aske me.

Hi Laurent! Please help me decide! The Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite V2 and the ASUS B550-PRO are the two I selected. The latter is the 12+2 VRM version of the B550-PLUS you also presented. (In addition, they differ in the presence of the internal Type-C connector) Which VRM layout would be better for a 5800X3D? Gigabyte's (6*2)+2 or ASUS's (4*3)+2? I like Gigabyte better because of the external appearance and I/O panel outputs, but if ASUS is technically better, I would buy it. In the case of Gigabyte, the placement and number of FAN connectors is not ideal for me, but if I can connect a PWM fan to all 5 connectors, I will solve the cabling. And what would be very important to me is the setting options and interface of UEFI. Also, which manufacturer's Windows software for the given motherboard is better made? Please help me decide because I've been looking for and watching tests and demos for days, but unfortunately I can't find anything about the ASUS B550-PRO, everyone only tested the PLUS version. What could be more important is that the two motherboards are currently at the same price, so this factor does not matter!

ouf... tuff one, both boards are so similar. I'd go for the AORUS just for a slightly better build finish than the ASUS B550-PRO.

Next generation is out actually :) TUF B550-Pro. It does get a front USB-C header. Also, S1200 is not top of the line (for onboard anyway), S1220 is, which ASUS puts from Strix upwards. Btw, where do your figures of 4x DIMMs limited at 3600Mhz come from?
@Laurentschoice3 жыл бұрын
Hey there . the 1200 and the 1220 codec are going to pretty much do the same and have the same features.what varies is what extra the company adds like amp and such for headphones. ( Source : NFM) As for the DIMMs, it is actually pretty much standard accross all manufacturers. Some will say it. Others won't. MSI tends to indicate on their documentation on product sites. Asus doesn't . Fact remains that the more you'll populate your channels , the lower clock you'll get. I suspect this has to do with signal integrity. In this very motherboad I had to reach out the manufacturer directly. I then tried the different combinations and sure enough..... I hope this helps :) Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment :) Really appreciated Laurent

Oh damn I just ordered the gaming plus as a replacement for a faulty MSI board, I didn't knew about this model.. it seems to have more power stage (12+2 DrMOS), I personally don't care about front panel Type C .. what else is different on this board ?? it doesn't seem to have 6 layer PCB either, it seems to trade 2x 3.2 USB for 2.0.. also not a big fan of " *1 PCIE 3.0 X16_2 runs x1 mode when any of the PCIe 3.0 x1 slots is occupied. *2 M2_2 shares bandwidth with SATA6G_56. When M.2_2 is populated, SATA6G_56 will be disabled." slightly higher memory OC comptability up to 5100.. I guess many boards are like that but it sucks to lose a sata 6 port for using both m.2 drives...that's the case on both boards though, so I guess the pro version is more fitted if you wanna go for a 5950x for the VRMs, although with decent case cooling it seems like the plus would do just fine, if it's just that then no big deal
