The part about his godfather was mean but you do have to take into context that Harry can be a little obnoxious twirp sometimes and so can Snape. Hagrid really is a great character. He was always one of my favorites, and I remember my first time reading through, watching my favorite characters drop like flies from order of the phoenix onward, I was honestly scared the whole time that Hagrid might die at any time. It's not like he was my favorite in any case (Dumbledore takes that spot), but he was also the first person from the wizarding world Harry'd ever met, probably his first friend, and is just generally a great character that I can't help but love. Despite liking Dumbledore more and Sirius' death being more impactful, I don't think I would've recovered if Hagrid died. He just felt like the last ray of sunshine amongst the dead.

Okay here’s a rant pointing out certain inaccuracies I did my best: I haven’t read the books since 2016 (I read them the summer before the movie came out) so this might be filled with little gaps in my memory as of the characters ages or names, but here we go. Olive was as a six to eight year old girl (I don’t remember exactly) with brown hair. “Air” was not her peculiarity. She could float and that’s it, nothing could prevent her from just floating up except her shoes. Enoch was one of the older boys, around the age of Jacob and Emma (I think he was 15) and he could restart hearts, but not like in the movie. He didn’t have to remove them from a body, he could restart the heart of Bronwyn’s dead brother (Victor I think?) without removing it. And it wasn’t a matter of Enoch had to control them when they reanimated, it was their hearts starting up and therefore their bodies coming back to life. Victor could talk like he usually did, he was himself again. Bronwyn was one of the older children as well, 14 or 15, but she was described as having large hands and wasn’t exactly the smartest of the children, but she was very nice to everyone. She had super strength. Fiona was around 14 years old and controlled plants. She was extremely quiet, almost never spoke actually, and had a wild nest of hair with all kinds of plant seeds and other things in it. She could whisper to the plants to grow them, unless there were non in the nearby soil of I remember properly. Emma was supposed to be Jacob’s love interest. She controlled fire, but not like she did in the movie where she had to wear gloves to contain it. She needed her hands to start a fire, and usually started it between her hands, but I do t specifically remember the motions she used. Her hair was blonde and she was around 15 years old as well. Jacob was pretty accurate, actually, except they called him Jacob in the book, not Jake the way I’m pretty sure they did in the movie. He could see hollows and (minor spoiler) speak their language enough to control them. He was 16. Probably the only accurate character in the movie. Claire the girl with the extra mouth was accurate if I remember properly. The bee kid (Hubert? Or something similar?) was around Fiona’s age, but he was pretty accurate too. Horus (was that his name?) got prophetic dreams, but forgot about them when he woke up. He couldn’t replay them at all. He was around Hubert and Fiona’s age, maybe 10 or 11 if I remember properly. Miss Peregrine was supposed to be a little older, but other then that I think she was pretty accurate too. However time loops did NOT have to be reset every night. They closed if an ymbryne (spelling?) was not inside it. And also HOLLOWS COULDNT ENTER LOOPS. WHAT THE HELL. THEY ALSO DID NOT NEED PECULIAR EYES, THEY NEEDED THEIR SOULS TO TURN SOMEWHAT HUMAN. The hollows were visually accurate though, I couldn’t find much issue with that. They ate souls until they turned somewhat human again, and once they turned human, they turned into things called wights. They could not in any way change their eyes from white, and they did not retain their peculiar ability. They often traveled with hollows because wights could lure peculiar children out of their loops and the hollows could eat them, so when the hollows turned again, they could be allies. The movie made it look like no where was safe for peculiars to escape the hollows, but the loops were. Hollows definitely couldn’t enter them, neither could humans, but the wights could. The gorgon characters with the mummy wrappings were not characters at all. The peculiars found a picture of them somewhere, but they weren’t characters at all. They never appeared in the book. I think that’s it for now. The plot was wrong, but I don’t remember enough about it to correct it I mostly remember the character inaccuracies. Movies made from books should be correct as much as possible and not screw everything up for the sake of the audiences entertainment. The audience is at least half the people who read the book, so messing it up for the other half’s enjoyment is a really cheap way to go about things. The book was made that way on purpose, it was written and changed and became a bestseller because of the way it is, not so it could become a movie. Like how there was no romance in the Giver because the characters were 12 to 13 years old, but in the movie apparently they had to make up a romance otherwise it wouldn’t as interesting. Let me give you all a little PSA: IF YOUR STORY, BOOK OR MOVIE, IS GARBAGE WITHOUT A ROMANTIC SUBPLOT, IT IS A GARBAGE STORY. DONT ADD A ROMANCE TO MAKE IT BETTER, WRITE A BETTER STORY. We liked the book for what it was, not for what it should have been. Thank you and good day.

THANK YOU for mentioning about how Snape is so praised for helping Harry and being so amazing when as you said he was completely and utterly horrible to Harry for just being James' son. And how terrible he was to Neville to the point where Neville was more scared of him than he was of the woman who tortured his parents into insanity is crazy. I agree that J.K. should have at least used Hagrid's name for one of the children because the series would have been so much different without him.

SPOILERS Imo Snape was pretty cool at the end there, when he died. But like he's still a fuckin dickhead. He was good to Dumbledore but seemed to think very lowly of his students, which kind of takes away a lot of his charm. I do have a soft spot for villains, which is probably why I like him, but I do agree that he was a horrible person for a very long period of time.

The demigods have practically most of their appearance based genetically on their mortal parent, since the gods don’t have genes, so they wouldn’t all necessarily “look” Greek, despite Annabeth having Athena’s eyes and same with Percy’s eyes. Those small features are what they get from their godly parent, not necessarily what race they look like.

On the Snape issue, I can totally see where you’re coming from! It was weird he’d name his child Severus- but Harry was naming his children for people who’d died and wouldn’t have a legacy- both Albus and Snape had no children or relatives (Albus had Aberforth but that’s... hhh) As a Slytherin it’s hard to hear people speak about Snape because they don’t really understand his character. Yes, Snape bullied Harry. But it’s very clear that when Draco bullies Harry, he does so behind Snapes back, and when Harry and the gang retaliates, that’s all Snape sees. They threw stuff in Crabbe and Goyles cauldron and caused them serious injury, drugged them, etc. For all we know, Snape sees more than James’s face in HArry: he sees his actions. A famous Gryffindor bullying two borderline mentally handicapped Slytherins while they do nothing. Sure, they are the aggressors. But Snape doesn’t see the aggressors, he sees the defense and only the defense because the Aggressors are Slytherin and know very well how to hide what they’re doing so they don’t face punishment.

How do you explain away him bullying Neville then? Neville did absolutely nothing to provoke his ire and yet Snape taunts and mocks and belittles him, to the point where he's hardly learning anything about Potions because the enviroment Snape has put him in doesn't encourage anything but fear of failure? To the point where Snape is his Boggart? Did Neville ever attack any of Snape's students, even in retaliation? Did Neville ever look like someone from his past that he hated with a passion? All Neville was ever at fault for was being the sort of kid other children loved to push around. There is no such thing as Snape seeing Harry or Ron or any of their lot as aggressors. Hermione got hit with a curse that extended her front teeth, and he didn't give a shit, even though it was clear one of his students cast the spell. He didn't even tell her to go to the infirmary. He just told her, "I see no difference." There is only Snape abusing the position of power he was given to torment young children who he should be responsible for, and favouring his House unjustly just because he can. I'm a Slytherin, and while Snape's character is deeply interesting, and he shows a clear bias that would work in a Slytherin's favour, I don't believe his actions are the least bit justifiable.

Butterfly Taster please completely read the comment thread. And also understand that we see this through Harry’s eyes, and Harry is an extremely unreliable narrator. I am NOT saying that his actions are excusable nor are they justifiable, but she specifically mentioned him bullying HARRY. I addressed what needed to be addressed. We see other teachers ALSO bully and belittle Neville- it’s just framed in a different way because Snape is *supposed* to be the unloveable character. So when McGonagall belittles Neville in front of the class, it’s seen as an ok thing or rather, it’s swept aside. Bear in mind Snape is dealing with the most volatile of the Magics. One wrong move in potions and the entire class can *die*. We are actually given a little tidbit of information - Snape has the safest potions class in the UK and Europe. Snape is snappish, brutal and rude. He is nasty, mean and brutish. But he is also a potions *genius*. Should he have taken Neville aside and offered to tutor him in potions? Sure. But that’s the head of houses job, and Neville’s head of house thought him as useful as a pile of sticks. Even less so, because you could transfigure sticks. Heads of Houses are there to nurture and guide you. If McGonagall did her job correctly, Snape wouldn’t have to constantly hover over Neville. At the very least, Neville’s fear of Snape did produce the desired effect- he got good enough throughout the years that he wouldn’t cause an explosion that could kill the class. Again, is Snape a nice person? No. Did he go about things the wrong way? That’s an understatement. But you cannot see things as all black or all white.

However it was supposed to be an ambiguous moment, leaning towards Snape attempting to offer comfort to Hermione for having been bullied like that, but not being able to because he doesn’t know how. Again, he’s a socially stunted genius- he’s not a childcare genius. Think about the scene of McGonagall said the same thing. “Oh, Miss Granger, I see no difference,” she said, her stern features giving way to a gentle frown. Same words, different inflection because 1. It’s someone who we have the bias of being matronly and stern and 2. She knows how to comfort students. Snape was pushed into his position.
