There's nothing wrong at first with a judge being concerned that an ex parte meeting leaked. But his priorities are completely wrong - his first duty is to listen to the defense statement in full without constantly interrupting him demanding to know who leaked. ALL THAT DOES is convince the public that his only priority is "who told on me?" after getting caught doing something wrong. And I'm convinced the fact that he went so far as to actually jail Steele is going to have massive consequences long term for his judicial career. The damage from the alleged wrongdoing of the meeting is critical and must be addressed first; whoever leaked the substance is not critical in the sense you need to JAIL the primary defense attorney while trial then still goes forward without him. Judge could treat that as a separate matter and start an investigation into the leaker....but the recipient of that leak (the defense attorney) taking actual jail time for refusing to ID the leak, all the space of an hour of yelling, stinks of corruption and undermines the public's faith in the rule of law.
@missyelliot62377 ай бұрын
Judge broke the law. Turns out that ex parte meetings are NOT allowed to happen with a witness that has been sworn in already. And the reason it’s concerning is because on Friday, this guy said “I plead the fifth.” Yet they have a private meeting WITH THAT WITNESS & all of a sudden he testifies. So technically this should be information that the defense is entitled to. They should’ve actually been notified at the very least, bc they have a right to be there. Can’t be meeting with one side & a witness who has been sworn in.
