I remember parts of this episode. I know it seems farfetched, but I think the writers were just trying to make a point. People were outraged by this crime. There was a lynch mob mentality, also fueled by the media. So, Van Buren orders her detectives, Briscoe and Greene to get a confession no matter what it takes. This was the result. This man pleaded for an attorney, but was basically tortured into a confession. I think the purpose of this episode was to teach us to not fall into that lynch mob mindset no matter how outraged we may feel. Protecting the rights of the worst of us protects all of us.

They didn't show the part towards the end where the doctor told detectives that it was unlikely that she would wake up. It's been 20 years since I last saw this episode, so my recollection may be a bit off. One of the detectives (Not sure which. I think it was Rey) told him that the guy who did it would walk if his attorney found that out because otherwise, there was no proof. That if the doctor said in his professional opinion, that he believed she would wake up and be able to say what happened to her, his attorney would try to take a plea that would at least put him in prison for a while. That guys like him will do it again. The doctor didn't agree on camera, but the scene where his attorney said the case was stronger than he originally thought made it obvious that the doctor went along with it.

Some spoilers for the final episode of season 8, "Monster:" They changed the suspect to the security guard because 1). His testimony about the first suspect couldn't have happened. 2) The case number on the roach spray matched the case the guard had access to. 3). He had an arrest for sexual assault in Virginia, but wasn't convicted. Briscoe pressured the doctor to say the victim recovered (she hadn't), and was going to testify. That's why the perp confessed. Side stories: ADA Ross leaves so she can get custody of her daughter. The judge in this episode is running for DA against Adam Schiff (definitely a conflict of interest). He also brings an ethics complaint against ADA McCoy for another case. Briscoe's daughter, who was murdered in a previous episode, is buried at the end of this episode. A snitch tells Briscoe that he'll take care of the murderer, if he can get his charges reduced. We see Briscoe talking to the snitch's arresting officer, but don't know if he went through with the deal. FUTURE SPOILER: In the next season, the guy who murdered Briscoe's daughter is found murdered. It's never revealed if Briscoe had anything to do with it, but it did give him a bit of peace.

What was the name of the famous actor that Adam schiff the DA talked to while eating at the last scene?
@kinalo70042 жыл бұрын
The cops here need to be fired ASAP. When a lawyer is asked for they need to provide him with one. Thankful for cameras nowadays! Line ups are not always trustworthy because it gives the witness a limited number of people and they may choose someone in order to appease the officers. The real perpetrator may not even be in the line up. This man is the example of being rail roaded I really hope they actually had solid evidence that proved he committed the crime. Normal people need to watch the real stuff and not the fantasy because that’s where they develop misconceptions of the law where they live. Good day.

Whaaat? Here, there's more videos on Peacock I'd have to pay for, just to watch whereas on Tubi(I don't know if that's what you meant), but on Tubi, it's free movies galore.... I don't know...I think this happens depending on where you live...I've got a pen-pal who doesn't have either (he's born, raised and currently lives in Holzinger, Germany).

It didn't happen often from what I remember - but sometimes the cast of L&O and the SVU spin-off we're in the wrong. This is definitely one of those times. We know it happened in real life. Detectives either thru laziness or prejudice violate an innocent persons rights.

There was a case similar to the first suspect where two people broke into a house, shooting a man and a woman in the face. Woman dies but the man survived somehow. The bullet entered at the side of his nose and was in his brain, his eye was swollen. Police arrested the guy and assumed he had shot his girlfriend. They didn't notice the bullet hole in his face. They question him for hours but he's making literally no sense (there is footage of the interview, its just nonsense words. On occasion it sounds like he's trying to describe what happened but its like his brain can't put the words together). 8hrs later the cop finally see the hole and take him to the hospital. He suffered permanent brain damage and had seizures for the rest of his life (which was, somehow, 10 more years)

1. He should have gotten medical attention immediately 2. They said he was not under arrest and that he was free to walk out, but they held him to the chair, basically forcing him to stay 3. He has a right to an attorney. He should have been able to call a lawyer immediately.

The writers for some reason made the detectives the villains in this episode. This is so out of character for both of them, especially Briscoe. I am also surprised that van buren let them continue their illegal questioning after he asked for a lawyer. Very poor writing imo
@omarbarakat58012 жыл бұрын
