A mother and father in Scioto County, Ohio stand trial in the death of their infant son. Young Dylan Groves was found dead 30 feet down a well last year, prosecutors said. Authorities blame the boy’s parents-mother Jessica Groves, and father Daniel Groves-for what happened. The defendants are charged with aggravated murder, murder, kidnapping, endangering children, tampering with evidence, interference with custody, gross abuse of a corpse, and four counts of felonious assault.
Problems stemmed right from Dylan’s day of birth on January 10, 2019. The boy was born with drugs in his system, authorities claim. Daniel Groves later got the child back after showing that he followed regulations, but the defendant allegedly started missing important dates, including court dates and doctor’s appointments.
Investigators claim that both defendants bolted on a four-wheeler when authorities dropped by the home for a checkup on May 20, according to WLTW. Deputies obtained a search warrant, got Jessica Groves to give herself up quickly, but Daniel Groves was only arrested after a six-hour standoff. Authorities said they found $42,000 of stolen items at the residence, and later found the late infant in a well.
Deputies said Dylan Groves didn’t even make it to a full three months of age. They claim there’s evidence showing he’d been dead since March.
How Baby Dylan Was Found In the Well:
A coroner determined that the victim had been slain. The child sustained several bone fractures, had been wrapped in plastic bags with duct tape, then put in milk crates that were wrapped in chains, and other bindings, according to WSAZ. The crates were weighted down with rocks and a weight, authorities said. As in his birth, Groves died with drugs in his body, according to the coroner. This allegedly included methamphetamine.

Jennifer S. This mindset is sometimes necessary to do the job in the most-objective manner possible. If physicians and surgeons lacked the abilities to do so, none would last more-than a couple of years. Post-mortem exams are such a vital piece of evidence that objectivity is the only way. Not that post-mortem exam, especially if children and those murdered, is without pain and sorrow to the pathologist for to get the best evidence, one must take a step back. I would bet-and-win that Dr Brown lost a few nights sleep over Dylan Groves.

@@angieb1234 They can't look because they arent sad about the baby, they are sad that they got caught. Baby dylan for them was just a punching bag when they got mad or high, and maybe they saw him as a oportunity to get easy money for more drugs, but when they killed him it all went down. For them baby dylan was not a human, they are so disgusting. Am glad Baby dylan at least had such an amazing foster mother, who tried to provide him with love and care, am also glad Judy got them justice in her statements. To be a woman of her generation from a small town going to college, medical school, and extensive advanced forensics training takes a special kind of person who is not deterred by obstacles, is very bright, but also very self-respecting, careful, and responsible. They dont want to look for two reasons: 1- They are angry that they got caught, hated the baby and only saw him as a punching bag when they got mad or as easy loney for drugs. 2- its manipulative, they are acting hurt so the jury and the judge would think they are mourning the baby and might not receive such a bad punishment.

I just watched a podcast about a 15 day old infant who had 76 fractures. Seventy six. The more the baby cried in the pain, the more her druggy father became annoyed and smashed her tiny body around the room. The little one did not have one day where she felt comfortable, secure, content or loved except the first day of her life while nurses cared for her at the hospital. That story made me literally nauseous and unable to sleep. These cases take a toll on me and I give the MEs and police so much respect for showing up to get justice for them. It can’t be easy seeing these things regularly

I’m a NICU rn and I volunteer to be assigned to babies born addicted because I don’t mind the difficulties associated with them. They need love too. And I don’t mind the consistent crying, the DT’s and the “fight” to comfort them. I can tell you after working a 12h shift with a addicted baby I’m usually worn out. I agree. I've listened to many medical examiners testify, but this one is the cream of the crop. Not only is she brilliant and well spoken, but her testimony is flawless. She delivers it with a show of compassion and professionalism, conveying every single crime and injury inflicted upon this baby, from his "coffin" to his broken little body. She refers to him by his name, and testifies on his behalf so that his killers can't hide behind their horrendous crimes against him. This prosecutor is also full of passion with bringing justice for this child. The disgust for these pathetic baby-killers is palpable in this courtroom. Even if they refuse to look at their damage, these pros are making SURE that they hear it all, loud and clear.

It’s my opinion that the state knows from all the evidence that this baby was in a toxic death trap. The state has to pay the foster parent. I believe the state gives the children back to the parents, because they know the child would be killed. This saves the state thousands of dollars monthly per child. There are a lot of cases like this. State gives child back to his demise. Wth?!

If its any indication of many countries - child protection services are woefully underfunded, understaffed & sparsely resourced. Many of the workers have multiple hudreds of active clients on their books. Also social/case workers are lowly paid. Couple that with the isolated area the Groves lived at & their evasive ways to hide & not keep appts. this used up a great deal of the case worker's time ...& there were many other urgent clients to be seen as well. This is NOT an excuse. There was more the services could've done. If a fraction of the defence budget or police weaponry could be directed to social services then a lot of these cases can be better monitored. This would allow the case worker to spend more time to observe the child in jeopardy during visits rather than only checking if a child is alive.

I'm talking insect infestations& filth that they flat out ignored. I wish I was exaggerating because it's really upset me& I wish they were isolated incidents. almost like she got mad, irritated, because he wouldn't stop crying, grabbed him by the arm and flung him against the wall or something. Poor little baby never had a chance. Meth turns people into monsters and demons. Lived nearby the area this happened for two years of my life, over 20 years ago, as my in laws were originally from that area, and they moved back after military retirement because its cheaper to live there. The area is pretty, but heavily hit by the opioid crisis, and also heavy meth use has caused a lot of deterioration in the area. Also the Piketon/ Rhoden family murder case nearby that area. So sad.

I had 3 broken ribs (#8, 9 and 10). It was agonizing and I’m not exaggerating. God forbid I cough or sneeze. But I’m an adult and understood why the pain and I took Pain relievers. Baby Dylan had neither plus a lot more than 3 broken bones plus his crying would exacerbate the pain. RIP Angel.

God I hate it when Christine says "at some point in time that pain would start to subside." She uses this phrase throughout the trial when speaking of Dylan's wounds. To me she's dismissing the agony Dylan went thru. Does defending Daniel make her lose her empathy and sympathy for a 2 month old baby? Those 4 people at the defense table are all about minimizing the pain Dylan suffered. I'm not sure I would want to lose my humanity to defend someone who's obviously guilty of horrendous acts like these two.

L.DOT.M. They didn’t. What they effectively did was preserve little Dylan by suffocating most of the bacteria, meaning he was fairly intact for autopsy, and less decomposed than if he was left unwrapped. It’s the only favour they did for him in his short life....by mistake.

They clearly did know what they where doing , she stated that she was drugged up so didn’t recall much or even knew much of she was doing but if that was the case she wouldn’t be able to possibly wrap that baby with so much plastic and let alone get crates and or other things she used to put the baby and hold it together, that just isn’t something that someone at that extend of intoxication could think of or do .

The lengths they went to to conceal this poor little baby's body is unbelievable!!! It would have taken them hours!! He needs to be thoroughly punished for his role, it's a horrendous level of disregard for the body of his own baby. She was on drugs (still inexcusable), he has no excuse at all. It's worse than what many serial killers have done, worse than many many killers on death row have done. I'm struggling big time with this trial.
