Not too bad as far as header installs go, and I can't wait to show you guys the rest of the exhaust! It's coming together nicely... Stay Tuned!

Engine Masters proved that you can bash the the header as much as you want and you won't lose any power. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. I've done that job on all my Jeeps. That manifold that came off is a Dorman replacement exhaust. The bellows help with the cracking that is inherent on stock 4.0 exhaust manifolds. I have that exact Dorman manifold on both my Jeeps. It's not great, but it does the job.

That header was probably built around the newer "Horse shoe" style manifold found on the later model 4.0... Not that is helpful now but a viewer might benefit.

I've got a MJ sitting in the drive waiting for a SBC swap (low buck parts hauler) and a drop. The XJ is parked beside it on 5" of lift and 33s. Digging your builds lately. The XJ and MJ platforms are some cheap trucks to build and still be fun. Look forward to seeing the exhaust build.

it is so hard to find someone to do high end exhaust build like you do. i had a couple exhaust shops claim they could do a high end job and they failed miserably... over sold themselves and it was such a pain. I learned something too request pics of their past work if they try selling themselves as high end exhaust shop. if they have no proof run away.

I would of have 2.5 inch exhaust least. 4L big enough bigger piping. Just my opinion. Still what u have is better than factory. Plus shorter distance travel the back may help a little. May sound ok.
@FortyTwoAnswerToEverything3 жыл бұрын
Wish I were near you so you could rebuild my shoddy custom exhaust full of kinked bends (probably down to 2" in some spots) on my 5.3 GMC Envoy. Maybe even convert it to duals all the way with a small h-pipe so I can get more of a classic V8 sound through some Flowmasters. I could swear that after it was done, my engine overheats more

Why can’t header manufacturers get these thing right. Hate beating the custom fit into them but often unavoidable. Nice job, always look forward to a new episode. Tech tip for what it’s worth, try a piece of leather in your vice. Holds the part well and no vice marks. Actually hold better than metal to metal and for sure way better than those soft jaw deals. 👍

never thought of leather in the vice, but thats a great idea I might have to try... especially with aluminum

I have a Renix XJ (same engine system) where did all the vaccuum lines go for that cold air intake? Also what did you do about the EGR tube that goes from the side of the stock exhaust to the bottom of the intake manifold?
@LawrenceTolman3 жыл бұрын
From what the owner told me, this engine isn’t the renix, but is a later model 4.0 HO swapped from a late 90s XJ… there was no EGR a on it when it came to me, and no EGR ports on the manifold either. Don’t think this one had any extra vacuum lines either.

Tell me you don't cringe when a customer brings you a no name header like that to put on his Jeep and tells you, "Yeah, it's a direct fit". If it doesn't say Edelbrock or Banks on it, you know your in for some problems. Speaking of exhaust shops, I took my '01 XJ to a shop and told them I wanted a 2.5" exhaust from the back of the cat to the tail pipe tip. Well I got it back and it was 2.5", muffler, then the stock 2" tail pipe. Errrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Before that, I took it to a well known shop in NJ and told them the same thing. They put a 2.5" Magnaflow on the stock 2" exhaust pipe and tail pipe with a monster 3" tip. That fell half way off a year later half way to Youngstown, Ohio for a funeral. The over axle hump was laying on the top of my rear axle. I threw it in the back of the Jeep and threw it in a dumpster at a rest stop. Fast forward to the other shop. I was so disgusted, I ordered a Banks cat back and a Magnaflow Cat, and put it on in my driveway. 4 years later, I'm still very happy.
