In America and depending on the state, if you walked in on a cheating spouse and killed them on the spot or caught them directly afterwards, things are the same. As long as it's not planned and you are surprised, you can claim temporary insanity. There is a human condition where people may lose control. Some of it is real and some not. But with a lawyer, you can get off.

Yeah, I agree. I have heard in most Asian countries the police and the people will stick with their own and always take the side of the local. In the west I think it is the opposite. If you are a visiting foreign person, the police will probably give you a benefit of the doubt unless there is proof you did something wrong..

Yes! A great many laws in the Philippines are just tragically ridiculous and unfair, and, unfortunately, reflect the religious immaturity of a kind, but (primarily) poorly educated third world population that badly needs to revise laws and thinking that is based upon long-ago discredited sections of the bible, in order to be taken seriously as a respected member of the free world in the 21st century. Can people navigate around this craziness and corruption? Of course they can, and many will prefer it. Money talks, bribery can work, and if they "flip a coin" they may even find out who their next mayor will be. A country where you could be sued for libel and lose in court for telling the truth about a politician"s evil deeds and nasty character...who would have believed it?? I don"t believe that all this does justice to the great majority of fine people who live in the Philippines, so wondering if significant change is on the way?..While I do hope so, I also rather doubt it.

Not completely true. Girls do get punished for false accusations, but it is like a slap on the wrist. I think if a person accuses someone of a crime that bad to destroy their life, if you can prove they lied, they should get the same sentencing that the guy would have gotten. It's really messed up, colleges/universities wont even wait to see if the accusation is true, they just instantly kick you out of the school the second you're accused.

I live in an area that most of my neighbors are squatters, boarders and pedicab drivers. One of the neighbors 8 or 9 year old daughter didn't have a pair of flip flops and had been walking barefoot for weeks. I had lived there for over a year and know most of my neighbors. So I asked the girls parents if she could walk to the store with me. I didn't even give a reason, just asked if she could walk to the store with me. It's a 10 minute walk. She had borrowed a pair of shoes to walk with me. After getting to the store, I took her to the selection of shoes and told her to pick out a pair. Should have seen her face light up. Now I understand why the cashier at the check out made such a big deal over us being together. The cashier asked the girl why she was with me. The girl told her and I told the cashier about seeing her without shoes for weeks. The cashier then gave me praise, which I wasn't looking for, and that was the end of that. Honestly, I am glad that an under aged child with an older man is questioned. It should be. Maybe I'm also naive, but I still believe in people. If you are not doing anything wrong, you don't have anything to worry about. Now for the conclusion of my story. The next day I had 10 or 15 children from my neighborhood ,standing in front of my apartment, pointing at their feet. Of course all of the children were barefoot. Got to love it.

Very, very wrong about police bias towards foreigners. I'm sure she's just speaking from her own experience at representing foreigners. I bought a motorcycle when I lived in Makati 15 years ago and it became almost impossible to get from point A to point B without being pulled over and hit up for 1000 or 2000 pesos (bribe) for no reason. Other than the reason being that I was white. I was once going down a street ( 2 way street) with many other cars and motorcycles moving in the same direction and the "reason" I was pulled over was "going the wrong way down a one-way street." LOL. That one cost me 2000 on the spot. It became necessary to look a block ahead for police and then go around the block to avoid them. I ended up just selling the motorcycle and going back to using taxis. This story is just one of many stories I could relate.

Foreign gentlemen, it doesn’t matter you’re not looking for trouble, troubles are seeking you 😇 But keep being positive, a fair skinned and blue eyed Christian is not illegal here. American fellows should not complain of their legal rights in the U.S. - you have at least the right to own a home (a land with a house) and have a job, something generally you don’t have in the Philippines 😎

This exact thing happened to me a couple years ago. I was picked up at Cebu airport by a cute girl who I'd met on DIA. We spent the next 5 days together and it was great! Well, little did I know that she had a local (expat American) older boyfriend. After I returned to the USA, she filed a criminal affidavit against me for rape and kidnapping (!!). I wouldn't have heard about it except that the old guy (who it turned out was really behind the whole thing) sent me a hostile email pointing out the same. I hired a lawyer on Mactan to run over to the courthouse and see if there was an action against me. Indeed there was. It took me 8 months and $3000 to get the charges dropped. What a ridiculous country!!!

I listed a few ways to protect yourself in my comments above. A few ways to protect yourself in the Philippines, don't give any money to a Filipina, or you can be charged with "financial abuse" and put in jail, if you break up with a girlfriend or wife. Unfortunately, this means NO long-term relationships and you'll have to continue to pump and dump. Also, make sure you record EVERYTHING, BOTH AUDIO AND VIDEO so she can't put you in jail for 30+ years for a false accusation. Isn't modern day feminism great? Smh.....

Thank you. This post is probably the most vitally informative of any that you have done. It is also probably provides proof positive that foreigners should not have anything to do with the women of the Philippines, nor anything to do with integration into the society. "Sweet and gracious" women looking to find financial security with a foreigner can easily feel scorned; the jealousy already pointed out as a big problem among Filipinas can result easily in the women taking revenge without having any factual basis. Another country that is more trouble than could ever be imagined. Taking your girlfriend's daughter to the beach (stigma of pedophilia) and fencing your land to have a claim against squatters (private property rights clouded) are my two favorite reasons to stay away.

There are tons of scams there. Every expat has blood chilling stories to tell. Myself included. They are ruthless. I liken the expats there to MacArthur returning after the slaughter at Corrigidor. A perverse game to see if the mouse can win against the cat. Some are true TradCucks, and slave away to support an extended Filipino family. The clever ones try to live-in only and do visa runs (now you know why) before the family extorts them for more money. A vasectomy is advisable as Pinay refuse birth control as they actually believe babies come from a God (I'm not making that up). Peace.

Once was in the province hanging out with my wife's relatives at the front of their house when the local "gangster" showed up wanting to introduce himself to me. I had him sit down with us, we had a few shots of tequila, and chatted for about 30 min. And as he left, I gave him a bottle of tequila. He was so happy, he told me that if anyone around town gave me any trouble, to say that I know him personally....lol So for the price of a $10 bottle of tequila, I made a new "friend". Which I was laughed at. I had to leave the Philippines from her abuse because my health go worse. I am currently still under medical care from her abuse and can no longer travel internationally because of my health. My mom died from her abuse too. Me and my ex wife were both the same religion and our local leaders even asked me to help as a local leader (which I did) But, fortunately I was volunteering with a Filipino Govt agency that kept me safe no matter what her lies were. You know, that's not entirely true, I remember when I was living in Manila, there was a case where a man from Panama who was in Ph learning harbour administration, he met a girl at a night club and they agreed to go back to his hotel, there was even evidence of both of them kissing in the elevator going up to his room. After a night together the man was awoken by the Police knocking at his room door and the girl from the night before was nowhere to be seen. The Police told the man he was accused of rape and took him to the station, where he was advised by the girl's lawyer that he was accused of rape and had to suffer the consequences. luckily for the man he had diplomatic immunity because he was working for the Panamanian Govt. and was released Even after he more or less proved that it was consuential sex, after negotiations with the relevant authorities, they told him he was now persona non grata and he had to leave the country. The true story is that the girl wanted to fleece the foreigner for money and was certainly working together with that lawyer, but she wound up getting nothing, but the man was falsely accused and had to leave, a sad state of affairs if you ask me. Yep foreigners need to be be careful and don't think it will be easy sailing with some of these women, another foreigner I know of was accused of breaking his promise to marry a girl he was dating casually. He was summoned to the barangay Capt where he had to pay the girl an undisclosed sum of cash. It seems that in Ph if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time meeting the wrong woman, you can end up in jail🤔🤔🤔

Girls in the Philippines fall in love with men, very quickly, if not instantly. Filipinas that date a foreigner automatically assume you are their future husband. They rely on your promise to marry and provide support. Because most are poor, they are left in despair when you break up with them, so they react in kind. Don't promise the moon to any woman and be upfront with them. Above all, do not flash cash or take them on expensive dates. Last of all; do not have sex with them right away, until you see if it will work. Once you have sex with them; they take it as you are now their husband for life.

If I needed any documents they would quickly help me. Being friends with the guards at the bank and those working in the bank they won't let me stand in line to enter but tell me to come on in when they see me. These are referred to as tribal or clannish customs. Many of the Scotts (from Scotland) immigrated to the US and looked for remote places that are hard to get to in order to isolate themselves from the main population. They discouraged others from entering THEIR family area. They are suspicious of any outsiders, they have their own "family law" and customs as described above. A defense against manslaughter in Georgia called the Fighting Words defense, where if someone insulted you or your loved ones so badly you just had to hurt or kill them.

There are some simple things that I learned about the Philippines, and what foreigners(including westerners) aren't aware of in what they needs to know about the laws there. I heard that the police there in the Philippines aren't going to be sympathetic to you; esp. if you get in trouble. Plus, you have to pay your way out, because I also learnt that the justice system is slow in that country.

When I was in the Philippines I concealed carried a colt1911 a1 45acp with a special permit. It is almost impossible for a Foreigner to own a Firearm there but with special connections come special permissions with proper paperwork! Honestly I would say if you do not have business there, friends or family do not travel there! It is very dangerous there and you can get in trouble for doing nothing! They do have corrupt LTO, PNP and other Government agencies they do extort money from Foreigner there! At the time I was living there I had Pinoy friends that looked after me and it was cheaper to travel to other parts of Asia and Middle East. I am retired now so I doubt I will ever return to Philippines!

Good Video! The things that I hear from Expats living in the P.I. are if a foreigner gets into any kind of accident with a Filipino that it will be the foreigners fault no matter what- Also if a foreigner gets into a fight with a Filipino it will also be the Foreigners fault no matter who started it or who wins the fight. I think You tried asking Your Atty that question but She misunderstood because She connected it with Prejudice against Foreigners and that's not really what You meant I believe

Unfortunately if you've born in the "wrong place", is very hard to start your life all over again somewhere else and be treated well like a local. I'm living in a neighbor country of my birth place right now and it's not so bad because I'm not very much different from them, but still you can see the prejudice. Now imagine if you want to live in Asia. I've heard from a lot of people that other countries are the same. E.g. Japan, no matter what happened, it's the Gaijin fault.

01:00 - I have to disagree here. In Manila and Subic, foreigners are often targeted by corrupt police who work in tandem with local girls of "low morals". During the Vietnam War, many of my Navy buddies would pass through those cities and, because of the huge U.S. ports, the locals had figured out how to relieve them of the cash that they saved up during their long deployments. I won't get into the details however, some of that culture still exists as some of the Filipino's and the many dirty cops understand how to optimize the practice of extorting money from foreigners. It still exists today and apparently these young, innocent ladies are unaware. If you want to avoid the many "shakedown" practices (and pickpocket experts) plan to stay out in the many beautiful province communities where you can enjoy the wonderful smiles and natural hospitality of the Filipino people :)

An excellent topic Pea! You do come up with some exciting ones! Personally, my bad days are over, I am 61 and not very mobile so I would not too well in a fight. In terms of driving: I have driven n both the UK and USA for many years, but the thought of driving in the Philippines (especially in Manila) horrifies me! I was not aware of the economic abuse laws! I have learned something new; thank you. Living permanently in the Philippines is much more difficult than I thought. The lockdown problems in England UK and the subsequent banning of British in mania and cebu, has given me along time to think. The deal about an adult being with a minor scares me also because as you know its difficult for a guy who is older to tell the difference between a 17 and an 18-year-old Filipina. as you know many young Filipinas trick older men to come to the Filipinos with fake birth certificates. I myself was told on facebook a young lady told me she was 21, when I got there I found she was 17 and her parents blackmailed me to get money! Be careful guys the country is so corrupt its ridiculous! They will stab you in the back and do anything to con you out of money and Filipinas are known as the worst scammers in the world,. they are rated higher than Nigeria or Ghana! Although the Philippine Universities are very low standard, the women are intelligent con artists! (scammers). Incidentally, there is nothing new about scamming. In the UK and USA; we call it Grifting. there are two main types of scams; the short con and the long con. The long con usually involves several members and is very well planned out beforehand. An example of a short con would be a Filipina obtaining money from you by deception i.e for a vigil for a dead grandmother who has died many times lol! Or for school fees that do not exist. Hospital bills, along with fake pics of relatives in hospital beds. the list goes on and on. the sad thing is their parents coach them into doing it! Also don't think an older ofw is less likely " to take you to the cleaners"; my niece employed two Filipinas in her mansion to look after the kids. I won't point the finger but let us just say they were less than honest, although they are hard-workers.

That is a whole lot of reasons to think twice about moving to the Philippines. I can understand why expats would be concerned about their legal status. On one of the matter raised, it's good to hear your traffic police don't target foreigners because they certainly do in Thailand, where expats are just regarded as a source of easy cash.
