Have this hammock and I do like it. I don't like that the spreader bars are heavy iron and the multiple thick ropes are heavy. I replaced them with carbon fiber and dynaglide. But it is absolutely huge inside. You can't touch the sides with your extended elbows when you're laying in it. You can also flip it over and lay on the bottom with net down or on the ground in bivy mode.

Great idea, can also make 3 or 4 sections to reduce length with the poles.

Nice review. I have one of those hammocks and love it. I sewed a sleeve on the bottom so I can slide a full length pad in for colder weather. It works great. Happy hanging!
@TheWrinklyNomads8 жыл бұрын
That's a very good idea, never thought of that. Nice one Dennis.
@denniskuenze48827 жыл бұрын
If you decide to add a sleeve make sure your account for the Velcro on the bottom for the rain fly. Or you can always use another tarp with a ridgeline. I am able to slide a 25 inch wide pad. It works so well. Good luck I hope you get a chance to try it out.

Adjust the spreader bar bungees really tight..use a inflatable small matress for extra comfort..tarp is great though I use an additional small overhead tarp as well..just my preference...excellent overall sleeping unit...can also be used as a ground tent..good review, but needs another video when you have configured the hammock to your specs.

I got one a Lawson a long time ago and after using it on several trips I got rid of it. I did not like the weight , size and the spreader bars and when hung and there was no visibility out of it. Went to a bottom entry Hennessy and then to a double zipper Clark Tropical. Moved on to a Warbonnet Blackbird since it packs really small and weighs 16.8 oz without a rain fly. Now I use the Clark or the Warbonnet with a 5.5 oz Cuben fiber tarp , 10.3 oz with stakes and lines. . . Lawson makes a good ( comfortable ) hammock or for better words a suspended tent but it is just to large and heavy for my backpacking.
@Oldsparkey8 жыл бұрын
I think the lightest weigh one I have that is a complete unit ( hammock & netting plus straps and whoopee slings) is the Warbonnet Blackbird at 16.8 oz. The add a additional 10,3 oz for the Cuben Fiber tarp , guide lines , continuous ridge line , clips , and snake skins plus stuff sack which completes everything for the tarp set up. Good weather then it is a Therm-A-Rest mummy style self inflating mattress about 3/4 inflated in the hammock as insulation. Cold Weather ( might be 2 or 3 weeks here in Florida ) an under quilt and the top quilt. I agree , I do not like to be confined and not see anything. The tarp I like to set it up in the porch mode so one side is up and I have viability plus it will catch any breeze to cool things down. Plus the Cuben Fiber tarp is semi transparent so you can see some of the night sky. .

I agree there Candice, I very rarely use the Lawson fitted one. I use nothing above or a tarp and works fine. Been out a few times with it this year so far. Here's one of my other recent videos showing it in action.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3-onaxrltmIY80

UK Preppers Guide thanks, i'll check ot out. I'm brainstorming a way to create an effect bug-net/tarp comb for a hammock as well so i don't need to zip myself in (thats the part i hate about the hammock).

Hi Daniel, That's the one disadvantage with this type of hammock with a cocoon cover. I found that I don't use the fitted raincover at all. I use a standard 3x3 tarp. ALB, Steve

@charlietango1869 жыл бұрын
I am sorry sir, but I am not that impressed, as it is single skin and you can't put a liner underneath, a ridge line would make the netting stand better, the door way will get ripped at the zip with use as it is too smaller area, and for £130 it is over priced for what it is. (this is my own personal opinion) I would not buy this, DD Hammocks are by far better and only cost round about £60
@ukprepper30259 жыл бұрын
+CharlieTango 1 I have never had a good nights sleep in a DD. I like to sleep on my side and it,s virtually impossible with the DD. The DD cocoons you too much. As for a liner , I use an ALPS mountaineering air pad, and I have never been cold at night. Also, the DD is just a hammock. This is a bivvy tent as well, plus you get a custom rain cover included. All in all its well worth the money, but if your a die hard DD fan I would still say, try one if you can - you'll be impressed..!

You should maybe sleep in it before you review it, I am no more informed now than before I watched the video. How does it handle rain? Does it suffer with condensation? Can you use a mattress?

by laying diagonally you can get perfectly flat, this is common knowledge for hammockers

Don't see the point, I'm a motorbike camper, Helinox chair, table, cot, + 2 man tent, is only a bit bigger than your setup, plus I don't need tree's. set up 5 mins max.

No need for trees either, sets up as bivi with two pegs. It's a lot more comfortable off the ground, many other benefits with a hammock and tarp than a tent. do some research you wont look back.

@TheWrinklyNomads2 жыл бұрын
On The contrary Peter, I have had all types of hammocks, for conventional, through centre bed to these style of bridge hammocks. It is not the standard diagonal lay that is best for 90% of hammocks. With this type you can lay straight, front, back, side or diagonal. They are designed exactly for that purpose.... Hope that helps Steve
