Xiaopei Chen : that’s why he doesn’t promote in South Korea. To do so he’ll have to give up a larger portion the profits earned in that country. Since he left South Korea in 2015 he really doesn’t need SME for anything. They hang on to him like a leach. However it doesn’t matter as his Chinese and international fan base continues to grow every day!

Lay has a whole album in chinese & english called namanana. ITS SO GOOD! He has 2 other music videos before this that also are him singing in complete english namanana and give me a chance.💗 He has been working on english a lot & he gotten so much better🥺 He also has a english collab song with steve aoki called love you more. IT SO GOOD. I would also for his other chinese songs recommend lose control, what you need, and sheep. THOSE ARE CLASSICS! He also has a stage for boss you can react to which is another english song. Fun fact: he writes & produce his songs. This is one of them :)

Your facial expressions during this video KILLED me lol but yeah Lay has some amazing choreo and he has songs in English but I always like to check out the chinese version (if there is one) because his lyricism is honestly amazing in his native language whereas the English version usually has more shallow lyrics imo. Every time i watch reactors react to Lay, im so happy bcs a lot of people have been sleeping on him when he's such a phenomenal idol. His music, his dance... No one can pull it off the way he did. For any of us that know EXO, and especially Lay, "Honey" is kind of exactly what we would expect from him.This is just the sexy, cool kind of song and amazing choreography that Lay is known for. All the guys want to be him and all the girls want to be with him. If you look at the credits for this album, Lay, once again wrote and composed and produced this song and the whole album himself, including the English lyrics. Yes, I am sure he had consultants who helped him find the right words in English, but if you know him, you know that he is a perfectionist and there is almost nothing that he is involved in that he doesn't have 100% control of himself. When it comes to Lay's solo work he does it all himself -- he writes, composes and produces the songs (including the rap sections), he even creates all his own beats, he has a large part in choreographing the dances and he has a hand in coming up with and directing the MVs. Lay is executive producer on all of his solo projects. There really is almost nothing he can't do. That's including learning English so he could make a crossover into the U.S. music market. "Honey" is another one of Lay's solo English songs and It's in English because I think it was a follow up to his previous album "Namanana". "Namanana" was a half English/half Mandarin album and it was his American debut release as part of his U.S. tour and promotions. Every Mandarin song on his "Namanana" album has an all English version. You heard Lay listening to his song "Give Me a Chance" on his headphones at the beginning of the "Honey" MV and that is one of his songs and MVs from his "Namanana" album. Because Lay is not allowed to promote in Korea right now, SM has found a way to promote Lay as part of EXO's storyline by partnering with him to release English songs and to tie his MVs in with EXO's story. Everything EXO does, including several of Lay's solo releases -- such as "Sheep," "Namanana" and "Honey" -- all tie into the fact that he is a member of EXO. It's SM's way of making sure that even though he might not be able to work with the members right now, that they still make sure to show fans that his storyline and presence as part of EXO is still really important to both Lay and SM. Lay is one of the top dancers in the industry and it's his solo work where he really gets to showcase what an amazing dancer he really is. He is the main dancer of EXO-M and he is the counterpart to Kai's role in EXO-K. Kai and Lay are both main dancers, lead vocalists and sub-rappers in their EXO units, so it's no surprise that Lay is an amazing dancer. 🤩 That is why most of the time when you see solo dance breaks in EXO concerts you will see Lay and Kai dancing together because they are 2 of the top dancers in the industry and they were meant to fill similar roles in their respective sub-units in EXO. When it comes to anything involving one of the members of EXO, even their solo work, you have to keep in mind how absolutely everything they do is connected and it is all designed to tell another piece of EXO's story. So, to really understand the story in "Honey" you have to first understand EXO's concept and origin story. The concept for EXO as a group is that they are aliens who came to Earth to protect the Tree of Life from the evil Red Forces and each of the 9 members of EXO (originally 12 members) have superpowers. So, For example, to explain the story in "Honey's" MV, some fan theories say that the fact that the weather lady on the TV is talking about the changing weather and the pressure system could be a nod to the unsettled conditions within EXO's current storyline and how currently the members are struggling to distance themselves from the Red Force, etc. And because you hear her speaking with a British accent this might be a clue to tell us where Lay is right now within EXO's storyline, and it might explain why the other EXO members seem to be sending him messages -- as we see with the bee and the blackout, etc. Most of the members powers have weather and nature elements that could be affected by and affecting the weather around the world. Some theories say, the mechanical bee has been sent by either one or more of the EXO members or it could be sent by the Red Force. The bee is either a message or a warning sent to Lay (although I am not fully confident as to what that exact message is.) And I think, the fact that the bee passes through the glass, might be Kai using his power of teleportation to allow it to pass through it -- or more like, transported to the other side of the glass. And then the lights in the entire city go out as if in a blackout, which I think might be Baekhyun using his power which is the ability to control light or Chen who has the ability to control electricity. Also, I think it's interesting that Lay, as a member of EXO, has the power of healing, and honey is known for its natural homeopathic healing and medicinal propitiates. And in parts of the MV we see Lay submerged in a pool of honey, almost as if he might be using it to recharge and gain strength. I have no idea what this all means, but I just thought it was an interesting parallel. On the flip side, the story in "Honey's"MV also is saying that Lay is a bee and he is looking for his "honey" that's why he is in a honey comb or in a pool of honey the whole time. I think what he is saying in the lyrics is that "Be my honey and be available to me when I want you, but 'please don't catch no feelings' because you have to know that we can have fun together, but I can't invest all my time and energy into you the way I should if we were in a relationship." In other words, he is too busy and too popular to be exclusive right now. He needs to keep the girl at a safe distance for both of their emotional safety, etc. Some also say the "girl" is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life and that is why the members of EXO are always rescuing or protecting the girl, etc. And why all of EXO's songs are about being in love with a girl or being controlled by the power of the girl, such as in "Overdose" for example. Or how they talk about knowing they are bad news for the girl but they want her anyway and they can't help it, but in the end they know they might destroy her -- as they say in "Monster," etc. etc. Which could possibly explain the lyrics in "Honey" if you think of the girl as the heart, it might explain why Lay "wants her" but needs to keep her at a distance to protect her, etc. When you think of the girl as the heart of the Tree of Life, you begin to see even more parallels to EXO's story and even more ways to connect even more of it all together. Did you notice that the spinning honey comb symbol in this MV is actually EXO's logo? The hexagon is EXO's symbol and if you pay close attention at that spinning honey comb you will see that it says EXO in the middle as it spins. So even as a solo artist, Lay and SM find a way to make sure that we never forget that he is part of EXO and that even if he isn't allowed to talk about the group, he makes sure to show just how important they still are to him. As you can see, EXO's MVs are more complex then what you see on the surface. However, often -- although the stories in the MVs are loosely based on the lyrics -- many times the story in the MV and the lyrics in the song are two separate things. The lyrics don't necessarily always go with the story in the MV. Often EXO's songs are about being in love with a girl and wanting to be with her, but the story in the MV is about them working to complete their mission and to fight against the Red Force, etc. Everything EXO does has many layers and it has multiple means and messages, including any of the member's solo work. There are always two levels to every EXO song, one designed to grab the casual listener that has no idea about EXO's storyline, and one that, if you look deeper, you discover has hidden meanings and messages that all connects to EXO's mission here on Earth.

He has four full albums total Lose Control, Sheep, Namanana and Lotus. For the honey EP, he released honey ofc and two other songs. I really like amusement park. It’s really chill and all English as well. Namanana, you should check out. He did the album in both English and chinese. So there’s two versions of all the songs in the album and the mv you should check out too for namanana, they used the English version of it since that album was to debut in America Oh and also, give me a chance mv. It’s mostly a dance based mv. Still the song is dope.

Our boy Lay is the last chinese member of EXO and ever since 2016 he started doing solo work he has never been on vacation, he keeps working hard to give us the best music and albums he composed, arranged, and produced himself..im not lying he does all of it!!! Lay is still an Exo member btw its just because of his busy schedule in China since he has important roles and responsibilities appointed to him and the political conflict between korea and china our boys(EXO OT 9) haven't fully had a comeback since Tempo 2018 which he only was shown in a few shots and only sang a little in the Chinese version of Tempo. W e will continue to cheer them on as a group and their solo stuffs

Even though it’s in english ... this isnt Kpop, it’s Cpop/Mpop (Chinese/Mandarin Pop or hiphop) since he created this working as a solo Cpop Artist in his studio at the SM location in Mainland China.
