We had a x wild cat that we took in and he became our house friend for 5 years..well one snow covered day he got out and was gone..we placed local ads, visited the animal pound and gave up our search. We were very sad. A year later after a huge snowfall in RI ….I looked out the living room window and …prancing down the middle of the ice encrusted street was our cat INKI…I let him into the house and he stayed with us until his death from cancer years later. Never give up on a cat. They have long lives and they are street smart….love your farming channel.

If Scotty had a under lying disease, it's not uncommon for cats when they know the end is near to walk off and find a place to lay down and die. Life of a farm cat is a tough. Rodents getting into seeds, and chemicals, then the cat receiving the chemical exposure from eating the rodent. Fair travels Scotty. Pepper is a cutie with the white star on her chest. She's also a talker.

Sometimes when cats get old they just wander off and die on their own. Sad but this recently happened to us when a feral cat we had just disappeared never to be seen again!

Laura, I'm very sorry about the loss of your Scotty, that cat was certainly one in a million. Last week we had to put down one of our dogs, it never get easier regardless of how many times you've gone through the loss of a pet. Pepper looks like he's going to fit right in there. Grass seed grows best in the spring or fall. Summer heat can be a challenge. Keep it moist by watering morning and night until it grows in. Starter fertilizer makes a huge difference.

Be sure to mulch around your trees. 4' circle 3-4" deep. Will hold moisture in the soil, at the roots, and make mowing easier by not bumping into the trunk. Mulch could be dry corn "straw" or grass cuttings.

Nice job on the seeding. You might want to get some hay stray and overlay the seed to keep the soil moist between watering. With July temps, it's tough to get grass to germinate given how quickly the water will evaporate. Good luck!

I install seed lawns all season day after day. Looks like you did a good job. Just make sure you keep that seed damp all day everyday until it comes up. Also starter fertilizer is really important too.

Man, that irrigation pipe brings back sone memories! It's a lot of work, especially if you only have half the pipe you need and you have to move pipe after you get a field irrigated. We carried a stick to tap the gates open without bending over. Knowing how far to open the gates is the real trick because you want the water to reach the end of the rows at the same time.

Watching You lay irrigation pipes brings back memories of growing up on the farm. Spent a lot of summers laying pipe and moving irrigation pipe on a 3/8 Mile sprinkler line. Laura and Grant. I always think it's a good idea to install a sprinkler system for a large grass area, they are used a lot on sports grounds. With high temperature reported for several countries, you will need those pipe for watering your corn. Scotty will always be with you. Love from Mike.

Sorry I missed you and Grant at the Red Power Roundup. I was there the first day. After going to the Army & Air National Guard Museum in Seward off of I80 I drove US34 to Minden and returned on US6 to take my own, private crop tour in central Nebraska. I think things, overall, looked greener than here in northeast Missouri. I did stop at Winchester's in Phillips; and took photos of the tables with the "Laura Farms" logos.

The first 3 weeks are the most crucial for proper grass development. And the biggest is the first 2 weeks that the seed DOESN'T dry out. Dry new grass is dead grass. Keep it less than damp

I wouldn't write off Scotty just yet. One of my local members of the Tribe of Tiger just reappeared after a lengthy absence missing only a chunk of fur on his tail but otherwise A-OK. Are ya'll going to put up any more trees/shrubs to act as a windbreaker around the house? You can really hear the wind on many of your videos. Love the channel. Keep it up.....

Laid irrigation pipe one summer as a kid. Couple of months, six days a week IIRC. At least when you get to the end, you get to start up the pump and get it running and cool off in the freezing well water.

Pick the tomatoes when they are half ripe. Take them indoors to finish ripening. It keeps them from the birds and actually improves the taste.

Another interesting and instructive video. The only difference I noted to me helping lay irrigation pipe in the 1950s-60s is the trailer tow unit. Ours was a Farmall 'H' tractor.

Sad to say, but outdoor cats in the country face many perils. By necessity, when I lived in two different rural areas, my two cats had to be indoor cats. There were too many predators, including coyotes, mountain lions, even eagles, for the cats to be safe. Both of my cats lived long, pampered lives, the oldest living to 19 years-old! I truly feel your loss.

The newly planted tree, 6 min 30 sec mark, has sun scarring. There is a white fabric or a paint to protect the bark from the harsh sun during mid summer mid day. It looks healthy but energy is going to the scar instead of going all to root and leave growth. No I'm not an expert at all so forgive me if wrong, just trying to help the farmhouse beautification process.
