In 2011, Park Chan-wook, director of the critically acclaimed South Korean film 'Oldboy', filmed the horror short 'NightFishing' using just an iPhone 4.
It would go onto win several awards and is widely considered one of the finest horror shorts of the age and a masterpiece of cinema.
Many years later, an idiot, having bought an expensive camera for the sole purpose of taking really nice shots of large and completely static objects, would make every amateur error in an attempt to film a trip to a museum.
He would get his thumb in front of the lens (multiple times), mumble incoherently into the onboard mic, several times hold it upside down and at an angle, run out of batteries twice, and have to beg the museum for a back-up camera, and arrive during a school holiday when the entire thing was packed with children, all running around and screaming.
Half the footage would be rendered completely unusable forcing him to completely re-write the entire premise of the video leading to several days of work comas, not sleeping, and forgetting to eat.
Welcome one and all, to the reason I don't do blog content, welcome to my disaster.

Very very common tank museum experience. It's genuinely amusing when you go at a quiet time and it's all married couples with one (typically, but not exclusively, male) partner running around getting all kinds of over excited whilst the other just looks on utterly bemused. The effect doubles when you go to the conservation hanger.

12:40 Don't worry lazerpig, i got you: The hungarians have actually had their own independent tank manufacturing facilities. Their armored car was the 39M Csaba, and their light tanks were of the Toldi series (as mentioned in the video). The Toldi was based on the Swedish licence production, but with less armour, a different gun, and a different engine, giving better mobility. Their medium tank were the Turán series,. They were based on Czechoslovak tank cassies, but the armament along with the turret and other components were changed. The Turán I had a 40 mm cannon, the Turán II had a 75mm howitzer, and there was a prototype for a third tank with a 75mm anti-tank cannon. There was a series AA guns based on the Toldi chassis called the 40M Nimród. There also was a series of tank destroyers based on the Turán chassis. They emploed the same line of thought as the Stug (take off the turret, and stick your largest gun in the mainframe). The Zrínyi I had a 75mm anti tank gun, but only two prototypes were made. The Zrínyi II had a 105mm howitzer, and had entered production. The Csaba cars and Toldi tanks were only effective in the earlier stages of the war, and were later used for recon missions. The Turán tanks started getting outgunned by the t-34 and IS series by 1943. The Zrínyi tank destroyers saw significant action in 1944 in the Carpathian mountains, where they scored a 3 to 1 KD ratio aganst t-34s Hungary also made plenty more prototypes, and their "fast divisions" (gyorshadosztály) have been successful. The germans have handed them panthers and even some of their Tigers towards the end of the war. I could go for an hour about the tank production alone, not to mention the airforce, and special projects (anti tank rockets, rifle-like SMG-s, sound cannons, ect.) Source: magyar vagyok.

There was also the 44M Tás, a Hungarian Heavy Tank that was effectively their Panther Equivalent. Only 2 Prototype vehicles were ever built and even then were only partially completed before an Allied bombing raid destroyed them and the factory they were in. It's probably the largest vehicle built by any of the Reich's allies.
@Gabor-xn3lm
@Gabor-xn3lm 9 ай бұрын
@@rebelgaming1.5.14 Yeah, a shame it was never completed though. There were also other tanks like the Turán III, that did exist, but they never saw service. There was also an attempt to make a Marder type tank destroyer out of the Toldi, that never went anywhere. There are a lot more things I could have included, but for the sake of keeping it (relatively) short, I didn't. I highly encourage anyone to look more into the Hungarian participation in the war if they are interested. There definietly was some wild shit.

Rolled him up in a rug and kidnapped the guy so Horthy wont switch sides...that manouver alone destroyed the hungarian future for like a 100 years. Some additional details about Mephisto, the last original A7V for the curious. It was captured by ANZAC forces (26th Battalion), many of whom were from the Australian state of Queensland. Abandoned by its crew due to getting stuck in a shell hole, the ANZACs decided to “acquire” it. Not because of any military purpose or value, but basically for shits and giggles. After a long journey to Brisbane, Mephisto has spent most of its days as a delay piece at the Queensland Museum before undergoing restoration after flood damage in 2011. In 2015, Mephisto was transported to the Australian War Memorial in Canberra for WW1 centennial celebrations before returning to Brisbane in 2018. In May of 2023, the original compass which had been removed from the tank over a century ago was returned to the venerable tank by a descendant of one the men who recovered it from the Western Front. All this history, for a machine I thought was made for a movie as a snot nosed kid. TLDR: Mephisto is currently in Brisbane’s Queensland Museum (ANZAC Legacy Gallery).

I believe the vehicle you refer to as a Sherman "Jumbo" is a M4A3 (105) HVSS. VVSS Shermans with 105s did see use during WWII, however the HVSS 105s were kinda late to the party and are more often seen in post-war use (especially Korea). 105 HVSS can also be seen with flamethrowers or dozer blades.

It could also just be an m4a3e2 with the wrong turret attached as museums do that a lot. However the travel lock would also conclude that its indeed an m4a3 105 unless the museum added it on themselves. But im getting ahead of myself, the travel lock most likely means its the hvss.
@matte_the_ranger
@matte_the_ranger 8 ай бұрын
It is indeed M4A3 105 and the main reason to say so is that it completely misses the extra hull plate. You can notice that because the machine gun is lined up with the frontal plate unlike the M4 he showed on the photo. Honestly i can't blame since you actually need to have photo of every M4 variant just to say "Hey look, this is M4E(insert any number you want)"

12:48 the Hungarians produced their own domestic medium tanks and assault guns (Turán and Zrínyi, respectively) and despite their obsolescence, the Hungarian crews performed somewhat well, well enough that the Germans supplied Panzer IIIs, IVs, StuGs, Hetzers, and Panthers to them, as well as integrating Hungarian crewed tanks into their own units (including Tiger tanks). By most accounts, the 105 mm howitzer armed Zrínyi assault gun was a fine piece of kit.

We still use radioactive materials for luminescence! Though not Radon obviously. One instance of this is in compasses: Cammenga (a company that makes compasses for the U.S. military) makes Tritium compasses, which are military (ruggedized) compasses with tiny glass phials filled with Tritium gas, which is radioactive; the phials are coated with some phosphor compound (zinc sulfate and the like) which when excited with radiation emits a visible green light, allowing for the "perpetual" (for 12 years) illumination of certain parts of the compass.

The writing on the side of the KV is Cyrillic. This alphabet was developed by Saint Cyril, at a monastery near Ohrid in modern day Macedonia. I haven't used Cyrillic since I went to visit my grandparents there every summer, but for you I will make an attempt: CYRILLIC ALPHABET: "За Ленинград!" "Ленинградские Женщины Фронту!" LATIN ALPHABET: "For Leningrad!" "Leningrad Women to the Front!" VIBE CHECK: "Heck" "Big girl coming through" "Yas queen, yas." ALTERNATIVE VIBE CHECK: Given the amount of women who took on factory jobs so men could join the armed forces, it could also be interpreted as "From the Leningrad girls, for the front", but that's just me trying to figure out what someone from 1940's Russia was thinking when they wrote that, and not an expert analysis. Best to ask the lads at Bovington if they have any records on why that's on there.

Here is what I put for each country’s first MBT: USA: M-47 and 48 patton, Russia: T-54, Britain: Centurion, Germany: either export M-48s for the west and export T-54s for the east, ect. Once the tank has a layout similar to a T-54, an M-48, or a centurion, I consider it an MBT. The Pershing is just a heavy medium, similar to the panther. Heavily armored with a great gun but also able to be used in offensive operations and keep up with the rest of your force.

While most famous for it's use in watch dials and compasses, I Seem to recall it was used in some vehicles on gauges, labels, or gun sights inside the vehicle. I am not certain as to what extent or what vehicles specifically so I can't say for certain but it's my best guess.

By then we dinied a bunch of their orders and fought a little agants them before soon being invaded by the USSR and capitulating in 1944. Regarding our tanks... Yeah they were... Usable, most of them had good heat protection (ex. Turan 3) but big weekspots for anything like APCBC. The guns were okay (i think) and lastly the mobility was actually quiet good! I also love your videos and hope you keep up the amazing work! (i'm also deeply sorry about some grammer mistakes i know i made, i'm still learning the language!)

10:13 That’s not a M4A3E2 “Jumbo” that’s an M4A3 105 btw. The Jumbo was given an entirely different turret with a distinct boxy mantlet. This is just the standard turret with a 105mm howitzer slotted in. The E2 was armed with either a 75mm or 76mm gun. Additionally this tank has the HVSS suspension (High Volute Spring Suspension) as opposed to the E2 having the earlier VVSS suspension.

Opening up KZbin and seeing a new Lazerpig video in your feed is like waking up in the middle of May and discovering that it is in fact, somehow, Christmas day and your Birthday.

Flames Of War has a few decent stories about Hungarian actions in WW2 in their eastern front sourcebooks, as well as a couple of the older PDFs on their website. The big one was their defence around the town known at the time as Torda, which they were able to partially hold against the Soviets until the rest of the line collapsed and they had to withdraw to avoid encirclement. Another is the incident where Hungarian troops stationed near Warsaw refused to assist the germans in putting down the uprising, because Poles and Hungarians are bros like that

A thing people often get wrong with the doctrine surrounding the STRV 103 are when they say "how do you even advance with something that don't got a turret? Lol, only good for defence". Which they are entierly correct about, and the Swedish army knew it as well. That's why the doctrine when the 103 were in service was to operate in conjunction with the Centurion and other elements, using it's awesome gun to pick appart targets from a distance, with a litte shot and scoot baked in for good measure. So a T-50 may open on a Centurion advancing over a field, only to get shot to bits by a couple of 103;s from the other side of that field. One of the first main battle tanks to use lazer range finding and night vision as standard equippment. Fact is, we Swedes were quick to realize the cost to benefit of such systems.

So I was at the Museum 6 years ago for the 100th anniversary of the Tank. You're right that they run the A7V with the Landship, but that year they also had a French Saint-Chamond Tank in attendance. Unlike the German and British tanks, this wasn't a replica. Very good time was had.

29:54 Britain’s worst enemy during World War Two wasn’t the Germans, but rather: the obscenely unnecessary amounts of bureaucratic red tape.

You can still go see Australia's "Atomic Tank" as part of war memorial in Australia. It fought in Vietnam after being hit with a 9kt blast at Emu Field. They drove it 3000km back to base in Victoria after.

It was also driven from the site to be decontaminated.. whilst it was radioactive... After topping it up with fuel since it ran out during the test.
