About a yr back, an uncle gave me a 1/2 dozen pack of ham hocks. I’ve had em in my freezer chest ever since, cuz I wasn’t sure what to do w/ em. A week ago, one of my kids asked what I planned to do w/ em. A month ago, my mother gave me a Ninja Air Fryer as an early birthday 🎂 gift 🎁 🩷🤍🩵. My wife just happened to be scopin KZbin for vids on how to use my Ninja, as well as tips for what to do w/ ham hocks (when we opened the box 📦 and took the contents out, aside from a little recipe brochure, no instruction manual…☹️). Anyway… We saw this vid on what to do w/ ham hocks IN the air fryer…😋!!! We have my mother-in-law (also a very good friend of the family!!!) AND my uncle over for dinner once a month, so I think 🤔 we’ll try em YOUR way…😁💚💛💙. (On a personal note 📝, my uncle’s wife, who was originally from Germany 🇩🇪, passed away back in December 2021, but she left behind some REALLY AWESOME German recipes, which my uncle was more than happy to share w/ us. I BELIEVE there’s a recipe for ham hocks that MIGHT work well w/ our Ninja!!!) Wish us luck 🍀, and THANK YOU 🙏 🩷🤍🩵

I get it goin above a bed of onions, potatoes and red apples with a few cloves ,sticks of rosemary, black peppercorns, chilli n a touch of bbq sauce. Cooks down with the rendered fat and a bit of water n flower in the pan to make CRAZY gravy

Thanks for this. I impulse-bought a $50 3l air-fryer at Aldi the other day. I grabbed a couple of midget roasts at Woolies. One was the same as your Coles one. The video gave me the confidence to cook it at my first go at the appliance. It worked. The crackling was bitchin'. I'm stoked :) I'll be looking into the business of roasting spuds and pumpkin in the same pot. It would be marvellous if that could be done.

This looks like it has been pre-cooked (sous vide?) by Coles.

We don't have this product - Slow cooked PORK KNUCKLE here in the US. To what degree is the knuckle cooked/processed doneness would u say it is? Trying to replicate it so deciding either to slow cook ahead of time or smoke it with aromatics first, then vacuum pack them, then when ready to cook to dehydrate somewhat before air frying it. Any advise?!

This product is "cooked in the bag" or sous-vide. We have two large supermarket chains here, Coles & Woolworths, and they both have similar products for this German-style (Bavarian) crispy pork knuckle. If you'd like to try to replicate, please google "sous vide crispy pork knuckle". One would have to brine the knuckle separately first, then prepare a marinade to cook with the pork in a vacuum-sealed bag. After it's done, then the knuckle can be blasted in the airfryer to get the crackle. But in one recipe, the brining takes 24 hours, and the sous-vide that follows is another 24 hours. Then, one would have to remove the knuckle and let the skin dry out in the fridge before the final crackle. Oh my! So even though I do simple sous-vide dishes for other things, it's probably simpler and not much dearer for us to just buy the ready-made product. The supermarket product here is also very helpful that it has a relatively long refrigerated shelf-life, around 3-4 weeks depending on when the supplies arrive. So, it can be on stand-by until it's needed, and 40 minutes or so is about the right time to get all the sides ready.

I’d imagine the possibilities for what you could do w/ air fried ham hocks are…boundless: 1.) Dice em up and add to chili, 2.) Do the same as #1, except add to soup 🥣, 3.) Enjoy w/ Mac n cheese or mashed taters?!?!?!
