this performance turned me into a Phish/Trey fanatic. For years, I'd dismissed Trey as a "bad singer" and I couldn't get with Phish's "goofy lyrics". But for these shows, I laid my past thoughts behind and watched with open eyes, mind, and heart. Early on in the performance, Trey was obviously as enamored with the Dead's music as I had been, and approached this song with such joy, such love, and he flashed this incredible blissful smile. That smile and the joy from which it came, melted my cold stone heart and changed my attitude about him one and for all. And his stellar playing throughout the shows proved to me that he deserved his role in that band on that tour. So I surrendered to the flow..... and have a wonderful new world to explore.... after all these years.

Well now folks... We all know ain't nothing better than Jerry and the boys on a warm summer's night. I'm 57 and I'll never forget that feeling in the show or after. Jotting down the set list and making tapes of the shows we saw. Best years of my life. Mid 80s til Jerry's passing. I got lost for a sec. Lol Smoke you another one!! My point is I am glad to hear and see anyone do GD songs along as it is with respect. These boys are awesome. JM done as well as anyone. I just miss those days. Your sister from Tennessee. As a young deadhead I feel really lucky that I got to see phil. Phil is old, even older than jerry. Imagine if jerry was on that stage with them, what a thought. I do feel lucky to have seen ratdog and the fare thee well shows, it's better than no grateful dead music at all, future generations won't be able to see anybody from the dead. Even though I missed jerry, I feel lucky to have seen the other great musicians that I have seen. Hopefully the music never stops, god bless the grateful dead.

I think the Dead is always going to remain a very special and influential band because their music lets honest musicians explore themselves in a way which recorded music often does not. I am a big Deadhead and I don't have the slightest difficulty imagining Jerry playing what Trey did. Jerry's gift is that he created a space which he defined, but instead of fortifying it, he left us infinite suggestions of what COULD be done. Grateful Dead's music = infinite possibilities

I applaud the Grateful Dead for giving Trey the opportunity to play with a band he never even dreamt of having the chance to do so. You can clearly see Trey’s appreciation through that smile he’s shining on stage. Great video! I was there and this is a great way to re-live the show. I have to admit I like what Ernie (Trey) brought to the show.

It's all about the Garcia/Hunter songbook, kids. Treat it with respect, and all will be rewarded. Every guitarist brings a different twist, all are worth a listen.

Phil has only seemed to have gotten better with time! That is atypical after a certain age with most players. Much love for all these guys!

I was never a Phish fan, not even slightly. With that said, watching Trey smoke on every song and the excitement expressed on his face have turned me around on his playing, not on Phish, just his guitar playing. Thanks for sharing.

Phish played Scarlet Begonias -> Fire on the Mountain at what is to be considered their first show ever, before they were even called Phish, on 12/2/83, before being drowned out by the house music (this was at a semi-formal at UVM). Imagine being Trey, idolizing the Dead, and then getting to play with them some 30 years later in front of hundreds of thousands. Serendipity.
