@Kelly King ... imo, Steve can definitely still sing 🎶🎶 !! ... I love his recent album Traces (released 10/2018), his 2 Christmas covers, and his June cover of "In My Room" (available on his website and on also KZbin) ... he then just released the acoustic/radio mix version of Traces on 12/4/20 ... even though Steve's Traces may not have had the same commercial success as his previous solo albums Street Talk (double platinum) or FTLOSM (gold), this album is still amazing and the songs are great 🎶🎶 !! ... I love to hear Steve sing even now (at almost 71), and will forever consider him to always be The Voice and the G.O.A.T !! 💜🎶💜

I do appreciate and respect what he's done with Journey (as does Steve, see his speech at the R&RHOF) ... but we all agree, NO one can ever sing the way Steve did in the late 70s thru the 90s ... even Arnel himself will tell you that. He adores Steve and looks up to him as an icon ... I guess I'm glad Arnel helps keep Journey relevant and touring for the fans ... but they will never again be the super group that they were in those heyday arena days with Steve ... @#TEAM TRUMP I think Steve is better than Freddie. Not only on his voice, but also in personality, actions and the story behind each music. Freddie is fantastic, but his voice was very "monotonous". I mean, it didn't changed a lot and it was the same thing every time. Freddie also used to push him a lot, Steve did that too, but Freddie had no control and that's why we have hundreds of Freddie vocal fails compilations around the KZbin. Steve had a angelical voice. He started with soft tiny voice, which could easily reach falsettos, high notes, long notes and breathtaking veeeeery long-length notes. Steve toured a lot and his voice was changing, and he was growing old as well, so he had the capacity to adapt the songs when he knew he couldn't do it anymore, and those became fantastic adaptations. Freddie was still singing the same thing, with the same voice and sinking himself in bad influences. Around 1983, Steve's voice was a little rougher and that was when he gave us an album with romantic songs, which his voice fit perfectly. So again he did adaptions and changes in his life. That what a call professionalism. There was a moment when Steve voice was very, very rough, and he did an album with heavy metal songs and his voice singing those songs was impressive, because he sounded really like a "insane" heavy metal Singer. That was another adaptation he did. He needed to step away, and he did. But still he gave us albums with great songs and even a movie soundtrack. Now, 2019, he just came back from isolation and he's completing a promise he did to his wife, that unfortunately passed away by breast cancer. And this album was nice, even with his voice way different and broken, he still adapted and sang it with his heart, in romantic and special songs with a lot of different subjects. And like every Steve's songs, there's a story behind all of that. So, in my opinion, it's shameful even compare Steve to Freddie. Freddie was really good, but he wasn't that "myth". It's stereotype.

Sad that Arnel's voice can no longer keep up. Glad to see Steve is back and able to find happiness in performing again. Let's face it...time marches on for us all and takes its toll, but we're fortunate to live in a time to be able to still access great recordings, and every now and then, "crank it up" and remember the energy of our youth - all thanks to Steve and his amazing voice.

Yeah, they have been a cover band since they brought Arnel into the group, and while he's as good an imitator as any, that's as far as it goes. I believe Steve was instrumental in penning many of the great Journey hits and the odds of replicating Steve's incredible singing ability AND hit song writing are astronomical...proof that it's not only the singer(s), it's the songs that make for greatness in that business. Just the way it is.

In 2001 here, though VH1 was not always playing music videos anymore, anything outside of music videos was all music related still such as this Steve Perry/Journey documentary. Back in 2001 here on VH1, you had a combination of music videos, music documentaries such as this one, music talk shows, music movies, and anything music related. Now in 2019, VH1 no longer has music videos and is overrun with stupid reality shows that glorifies drama, stupidity, and ignorance. Same with Discovery, MTV, TLC, History, etc... SAD!!!

You apparently mean Steve Augeri who was Steve Perry"s replacement .Perry has not sung with Journey since 1996 when they hit the charts with when you love a woman.Steve Perry and Journey only talk through their lawyers.Perry will not sing with them unless maybe they get inducted into the RnR hof then it is maybe or maybe not.Steve was replaced because he needed hip surgery and the Jboys did not wait ..Big mistake that they regret to this day.damage has been done,

Yeah well they have gone from a great band to a tribute band to singing Perry songs,Schon knows that. How do you know Perry can't sing ? Did you hear him? I say he can still sing as does some well respected guitartist in music.. Schon and co would jump through hoops to get Perry back .Because with Perry comes status, respect, every label would be knocking..With Perry it was about the music ! With Schon it is about the money.Tapegate proved that!!.

Even Neal said in a different documentary referring to Steve's first solo album, quote "it sounds like Journey". No shit! Because SP was the major influence on the Journey sound. Not entirely but a hell of a lot.

Here's something really funny: Steve Perry and I not only share the same Azorean Portuguese heritage, but also the same birthday.

Journey would be offended but not Perry! Why would Steve be offended? They took a band he worked his ass off for and alot of his life to help build! It has been turned into a shadow of a once amazing band..Steve is a perfectionist at heart .I am aware that is what is keeping him from releasing the songs penned..Hopefully that has been addressed and being worked out..Make no mistake Journey now is a dam cover band and getting worse their imitater is losing his voice ,can't hit the notes.

df041278 , Absolutely, he has said he is his own worse critic. I believe he has a vault full of new music but won't release it because he does not sound exactly the same when he was younger, and he don't want to disappoint his fans. Yes any music he releases now there are going to be those a** holes that are going to say some mean hurtful things and that will not be right. Those of us that are mature enough to know his voice is going to be different will still live him and his music, it is his love, his passion that he puts into every note what ever that note will be.

@@CherylHShannon ... thank goodness, after making his promise to Kellie 💜, Steve did finally release that new 🎶🎶 music ... his album Traces (10/2018) is amazing, and his voice may be older but still sounds great !! ... he always was, and has now proved he still is, The VOICE (the one and only) !! ..... to me, Steve Perry will forever be the G.O.A.T. !! 💜💜💜💜💜🎶🎶🎤🎶🎶💜💜💜💜💜

My wish for steve perry is that he could have had more passion and confidence to keep going as a rockstar and be in much more control of his fame and art so my generation would have really loved him along with the popstars we have now.

I can't believe people that say they are Steve Perry fans and say the most stupid things a true Steve Perry fan would know exactly what years Steve was with Journey and how they did him when he needed hip surgery sounds like this guy Michael knows nothing at all about Steve Perry or he would'nt have said the things that he thought were about Steve some people should just keep silent unless they know what their saying is 100% true..
