Worked in retail and had a boss who would just take alot of time off when things got too stressful. letting the store get bad then complained about things not getting done. she did the bare minimum and blew up my phone on my days off to work on single coverage or always changed the schedule at the last minute in retaliation. Realized she started putting me alone almost every shift while everyone else would be scheduled together and she had her favorites who were very much more privilaged than anyone else was. They didnt even have to be on a register. This started affecting me to the point where I couldnt relax at home without still feeling the weight and stress of that job. I quit like 2 weeks ago and feel so much better mentally.

Bad managers are not oblivious to good workers. Quite the opposite. In my experience, bad managers know all too well who the hard workers are. What makes them bad managers is their lack of empathy as they dump more and more responsibility on fewer people. With this kind of boss the worst thing you can do is show initiative. If you take on extra work and are successful, it greenlights them to give you even more. Meanwhile the bare minimum workers and bad workers are rarely fired. Instead their paths are made easier as the overflow is dumped on the hard workers. The stated reason for this is often the same : it needs to get done. Sometimes the boss will even patronize you with a compliment as they load you up with more projects your coworkers are too lazy or incompetent to do. And when the day comes that you push back and say you are overworked, that is when a bad boss will become hostile and start dropping little threats. Here is the thing about a bad boss. they never see long term. They assume you will be their pack mule forever. That you will always be there to bail them out of a jam. Or pick up another shift when a lousy coworker calls out for the 5th time in a month. To a bad boss, you are a hammer. Every problem is a nail. And hammers do not have feelings so they will not care about yours. The solution? Start using the word no. No, I cannot do another project. No I wont come in to cover Becky's shift. No I am not going to fix Mike's paperwork again. If you are worried about being fired, ask yourself this. Is it better to spend every day in absolute mysery at a company? For most it is not even a close bet.

To add emphasis: If you report problems with a bad boss, you almost certainly will be retaliated against. I'm not sure that "may" really gets the degree of risk across.

I wanted to quit my previous job, they asked me to stay and asked me to tell them all the things I was unhappy with which is what I did... after that point they used every chance they got to undermine me, degrade me and show me how little I ment to the company. So I quit anyway but so did many others, the staff turnover was very high.

I quit my job last night, absolutely toxic boss and literally the work was fine and the other colleagues, it was just the manager. Complete micromanager, narcissist, liar, psychopath who had no idea even how do to the job they were managing. Called him up last night - said see you later.

I'm on my last week with a job where I have the worst micromanager ever. She doesn't just manage when you do things. It's how you do things. If you're doing it exactly the way she does. And throws tantrums when you don't.

Started working at a 2** Hotel this week as a waiter but seriously never worked in such a very toxic workplace and manager!!! When a coworker has never been told that the buffet of food tables has to be cleaned after breakfast and dinner by anybody... and shes been there since last year. I guess it explains the management.

Neither I or my colleagues can do anything on our own. Our boss has to review every single document that goes out. She will sometimes draft an email for me and tell me to send it off. I just stopped caring and do what she tells me to do.

Working for a Bully: Unfortunately I’m in a toxic environment. I am looking at 2nd and 3rd options. The moment people started calling the anonymous line. The Manager made a 180. People did and have started collecting email chains ; some went so far to record 1 on 1 calls to catch their Manager in his condescending words. People are preparing to leave and one gal got let go because he was sleeping with an employee. Now she’s out of work and can’t find a job nor does she want to return to the security industry. She was the smartest rep on the team. Now my state has 2 reps to cover the whole State. Ridiculous… plus if a manager repeats something so often, there’s no chance they will change their beliefs. Projection saying that their office is the best in the country. Projection is something all people should look for; especially in Sales. 3 people are talking with EAP to keep their mental state intact. No good..

Great video! Can I ask a question please? What if you ask your boss for assistance (one-to-one email) on a task due to unfamiliarity and he replies with a snarky email saying they don’t know the work, that they’re surprised I don’t know and that I should speak to another team member all whilst adding THEIR boss in the email as a CC? I asked the other work colleague and they didn’t know. Now I have to ask around the company to find out if anyone else knows? Is their behavior warranted? Am I being lame? It’s shaken me up and I’m too frightened to make one minor error as my boss has belittled me before in-front of their boss.

I feel like bosses that dont actually involve themselves in the issues are just as bad as a micromanager, if you literally dont know enough about the work being done to see problems or are so uninvolved that you aren't part of the team you basically arent doing your job, but I've seen it so much more than anything else.

I am in your situation. Play the game. It’s hard. Apply for as many jobs as possible. Don’t take the first offer unless the pay is significantly more. Look for jobs with better pay and don’t give up. If you get an interview, be confident and smile. If they ask why you want to leave, say you want to work for the company you’re being interviewed for and would like the opportunity to make them more money. You can ask others around too. All the best and give us an update. :)

boss is only loyal towards very depraved employees. I am talking about employees who don't have problem lying , stealing etc. These are qualities boss needs. Regular employees have zero value for the boss because regular employees are bad at lying etc. Boss never keeps his depraved employees responsible for anything despite all atrocities they commit. In return depraved ones never question anything because they just don't care
