I would have went ahead and changed the primer buld while i was at it usely they are not far from cracking or breaking when they turn that color. So in 39yrs you ha e never changed a spark plug or fuel filter or ful lines or even a air filter find that a little hard to believe i mean you did say you have never had to do anything to it just wondering

How can you tell if people put straight gas in with no oil .please explain so I will know in future

If straight gas is run in a 2 cycle engine there will be no lubrication and the piston and cylinder wall will get scored and ruin the engine. You can unscrew the muffler and look at both the piston and cylinder wall to check that. If you see vertical scratches on them the engine is probably shot.
