Is it just me or are the Evinrude/Johnson V4 engines possibly the longest-lasting man-made devices ever to grace the face of the earth? They are like freaking military-grade.

Fuel line zip ties - didn't even know they existed. I've always used the best zip ties I could find (hopefully those small headed ones with the metal insert). Those ones you have with the sloped shoulder look great.

15:53 It's impossible to find the right part. I looked, to the end of the earth with the greatest searching skills you can imagine. Besides one eBay guy who bought up all 10 parts from the OMC collapse it is N/A. Up to us to figure out a solution. As you/I did. Good luck!

Your loctite research will lead you in the right direction. They will tell you exactly the formula that is right for this application. As I have found, MANY formulas are accidentally right for this application. Bonus. Hell yeah. I did very similar things to what you did when fixing my old OMC carb that had issues. Hell yeah.

It's a really weird design from OMC. I scratched my head for a week, then ordered NOS fittings. The clearance was not correct between all 3 carbs. I decided to sand one and then I went too small on the O.D. My fix was to use Loctite to take up the gap. What a weird fix, but it worked..for 20+ hours. Amazing. This fitting combination on the bottom of these carbs is extremely weird, not standard, and takes a hell of an engineering hat to work with. IIRC, I used heat, cold, shrink fit techniques, etc. Not an easy job. To have "not an easy job" right off a standard carb is a HUGE problem with the OMC carbs, IMO. We need a new carb bowl lower fully re-engineered for everybody to use POST OMC blow up. I feel like that could be a lucrative market.

And, as mirrored in the video, I cracked every plastic fitting I touched in the assembly. As I said, really weird design from OMC.

Can you explain why the zip-ties are better than the hose clamps?

Hey Brandon. What zip tie tightener/cutter do you use? Thank you. Nice job!!

Thanks for the video Brandon. Question- is it ok to run a paper inline filter on a pre-mixed 2 stroke (50:1 mix)? Will this cause it to run lean? Thanks

I used to have no problems getting those fittings at Napa. All in brass.🤔

@@BrandonsGarage Think I found two on Amazon that would work. 1/16npt - 1/8 npt strait adaptor to a 90 1/8 elbow 5/16 barb .... either could be shorten for height issues. both brass. I've even have shortened the overly long barbs. European car mechanic.

Just use a fuel tank anti siphon valve and just knock the ball out

What do you do for replacing the formed hoses on these old ones?
@BrandonsGarage Жыл бұрын
Well, there is only one on the fuel line of this motor, which if it were a pinch longer makes the bend without issue. Others are the rear cooling hoses, which are still available.

@@BrandonsGarage what year V4 is that one? I had a 79 that had four of them, but was able to make it work with two.

Instead of tapping threads, could you just use some flux and solder it on like you would do a copper pipe on your house???
@jims4539 Жыл бұрын
SS is so hard it's hard to mesh the threads to anything except SS.
