In fact a lot of Hong Kong Cantonese vocabs come from English like bus, taxi, toast...etc. I think this is interesting for English-native people.😆

For kayak the verb is "爬” (pa) which means "to row" but "爬" also means "to climb" or "to crawl". For example 爬獨木丹 (row a kayak), 爬山 (climb a mountain/ hill) & 爬行 (crawling).

Grace, it’s so interesting to watch you learn Cantonese. For golf, 哥爾夫球is more popular in spoken Cantonese. You picked a good one. And for canoeing, you can just say ‘我未試過(玩)獨木舟’. Have a nice day!

Favourite sport - basketball! The few times I've been back in HK, every time I go back, basketball is more and more popular. When I went in '98, you would see the pick-up courts w/ mostly a few highschoolers and expats. When I was back again in 2005, those same courts easily had ppl waiting for next. Last time I was back in 2017, even the really run-down courts were pretty busy.

Hi Grace, I'm Joanne, HK, I lived in UK too few years ago ;) I learnt about you through the Apple daily, nice to meet you! Do you fancy to have a HK buddy? We can practice Cantonese together with my Dutch fiance who is also learning (not limited to just the language), maybe you can share your tips to help him overcome the obstacles if you want 😉 I'm also learning Dutch so I'm really impressed by your Cantonese and passion, looking forward to experience together language learning & culture!

HI Grace! I was wondering if your throat ever hurt when you were first learning Cantonese? I've been practicing tones and simple words but I feel like I'm somehow hurting my throat. Especially the 4th tone feels like a vocal fry. Do you think I am maybe trying too hard with my pronunciations? Thanks!!
@Guresu3 жыл бұрын
I think you’re trying way too hard, your throat should not hurt! Remember that the tones are relative to your own vocal range so you don’t have to sound exactly like whoever you’re learning from! Your 4th tone will sound different to someone else’s as everyone speaks at different pitches. As long as the 4th tone is pronounced at the lowest point of YOUR vocal range then it’s accurate. Does this make sense?
@cinnstix80293 жыл бұрын
@@Guresu Yes I think I was trying too hard to copy the exact tone of who I was listening to. Thank you for replying! Much love! 💕💕💕
