I'm so happy I found your channel. I'm moving to madrid for work and have a decent understanding of spanish, but when i heard catalan from some friends in valencia i thought it was lovely and wanted to learn it while i was living in spain (going to definitely visit Barcelona too). your videos have been so helpful in getting me started and familiar with the language, and i find catalan so pretty to listen to and it's been a joy to learn.

I’m currently studying Catalan CEFR level A and I must say I do find your explanations very useful as compared to the books I have been using. The standard methods unfortunately don’t explain the grammar and the pronunciation in detail and I sometimes feel quite lost. I live in Mallorca and the pronunciations here are different when it comes to trying to speak with the local people in the local language which further adds to the confusion. Can you please also recommend any material which would be easier to understand for a beginner which I could practise to improve my Catalan? I do have a DELE C1 already and hence Romance languages aren’t new to me. It’s the pronunciation and the orthography that I struggle with. Thank you. 🙂

Any chance to do a video on the top most used words in Catalan, and show us how to pronounce them? Especially words that aren't similar to Spanish counterparts (ex. gairebé, ara, etc). At the moment, I use Forvo (cause Google Translate audio is horrible for Catalan) but with Forvo I have to look up one word at a time. Anyways, I don't know how interesting such a video would be for other viewers, but I'd enjoy it. Hablo español y portugués y siempre me da las ganas de pronunciar palabras catalanas conforme con los idiomas que ya sé, aunque sé que yo no deberia hacerlo.

Is "haver" the only auxiliary verb in use for forming the "perfet"? From what I see, seems that yes. If that's true - that's a huge bonus, not to have to remember when to use "to have" and when - "to be" as an auxiliary verb for this past tense. I went through this in German, Dutch, French and Italian already, and the verbs with "to be" are different between all the languages, which makes life really complicated. Would be really happy to have a reply that in Catalan you have "haver", and that's all. :)

That's right, it's the only auxiliary in the perfect tense (and that's also the case in Spanish). So no need to think whether the verb implies movement or change as it happens in other languages :)

This is the most common error Spanish or Catalan speakers make in English when the present perfect is used to talk about an action completed today. In Catalan and Spanish when taking about actions done today the [pretérito perfecto] functions as both [ past simple] and [present perfect], but in English you cannot use the [ present perfect] to talk about a finished action today. [ I talked to my dog this morning] is [ Vaig parlar amb... avui]]

But in Catalan and Spanish [ He parlat amb el meu gos aquest matí] is correct because it functions as both past simple and present perfect but in English there is clear distinction between finished and unfinished actions today. The [present perfect] cannot substitute [past simple] when taking about actions completed today.
