Hola de Texas! I am a lifelong student of the Romance languages. It's been quite difficult to come across resources to learn Catalan, and unfortunately I cannot afford to travel there. However, your videos are very helpful. I am glad I found your channel. Graciès!

Thank you for these videos. I didn’t even know Catalan existed until I was lucky enough to visit Barcelona. I’ve been fascinated by the language ever since. You make it very easy to understand! Hopefully I’ll come back one day and be able to speak to locals.

Been following you to Catalan because of my undying love for Fútbol Club Barcelona. I wish to come to Barcelona some day, watch at game and Camp Nou and speak as much in Catalan as I can. P.S: I can sing the whole Cant del Barca. Some Catalan there. :D

Hola! That's impressive and more than I can actually do ;) I think it is a great approach to start learning a language with something you like. I remember myself as a teenager and learning English vocab through songs :)

Moltes Gracies bella Maria! Yes, we are very interested in the beautiful language of Catalunya💝💖🌺🤟💓 And don’t worry - this is not a boring lesson! How can we get bored while listening to bella Maria? (or is it Maria Bella? Sorry if I’m mistaken. Em sap greu). En realitat el video bonic 😀 (just like you - només com tu!🙏). Do the same rules apply to adverbs as well? … Felic any nou per tu tambe 🌅🌺🎉⭐️🙏

Hahaha gràcies, that's too kind! Actually not, adverbs often provide information that complements the verb (where, when, how...) and do not change. Something easier! ;)

To be fair to Catalan, Latin is the same, the adjective goes after the noun: "Puer stultus est" (The boy is silly), it wouldn't be corrrect to say "Stultus puer est". But also, feminine and masculine is the same story but it also had neutral gender as well: "Illud templum pulchrum est" (That temple is beautiful). And just to give two plural feminine examples "Hae feminae pulchrae" (These beautiful women) and "Hae arbores altae" (These tall trees). Most words have a masc, fem, and neutral form some have only one form and some have two. You just have to learn them and accept them for what they are. Even though native English speakers complain about Romance langauges have genders and say "It's stupid! A chair doesn't have a gender! It's a chair!" but once you put aside the prejudice, funny how that works with most things in life, you can appreciate it for what it is and how much sense it actually makes. So far, I've found Catalan has really helped learning Latin and vice versa, they're very symbiotic and I hope to continue my progress!

Very interesting to read how Latin has helped you learn Romance languages and the other way around. For me, the 3 years of Latin that I did at school are definitely helping me learn German :D Quite fascinating!

I expected the noun before the adjective rule, but is there really no exception in Catalan? Those exceptions exist in French, particularly when the adjective is shorter than the noun. "Un bel homme" "un bon film" that sort of thing. In any case, I'm a great fan of your videos. I've learned a lot.

Hola sebastiaanvanwater, good catch! I should have said “in the majority of cases” instead of “always”! The construct “Adj + Noun” is mostly used as a literary device to emphasise a quality. E.g. “Una brillant idea” - A brilliant idea. However, there are a few cases in which the position of the adjective may change the connotation/meaning of the adjective. E.g. “Una vella amiga” (an old friend of mine - meaning we have known each other for a long) / “Una amiga vella” (an old friend - a friend who is an elderly person). Hope this clarifies 😊

@@learncatalanfrombarcelona7756 Ah I suspected as much. Thanks for the reply. If I had any suggestion for future videos, I am wondering about the different past tenses in Catalan, which ones are really in everyday use (all of them... really?) and which ones, if any, are more old-fashioned or relegated to books. Future tense... is it really "iré, iràs, irà..." or more "vaig a anar" type of contructions that is used more in everyday Catalan? Maybe both equally? I'm also curious about subjective. I'm guessing it works similarly to French, and I remember it roughly did just that in Spanish when I had courses in university, but there were also nuances. Maybe that is the case in Catalan as well. I have a million more questions, but i can leave those for future updates from your channel. Keep us guessing with the outfits. Yes, we do notice.

You should just speak in Catalan with subtitles in English. I think people would learn way more that way.

Hola Alexandria. There always are several approaches and you can find an example of what you suggested here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIOXaWR5jL9mgcU I see the value of this model mostly for Spanish speakers (or Romance language speakers) - otherwise quite challenging to follow the conversation and learn.
