I'm 60, started using a baitcaster 2 years ago, a Piscifun Torrent. I was a bit nervous at first, but started with some cheap 12 lb mono line, so if/when I backlashed it wasn't expensive to respool if needed. I improved so much that I bought a couple of more baitcasters to add to my arsenal. Great video showing the basics, I also used youtube videos for instruction, such a big help. Keep it up!

I just went to the lake to try to learn how to cast my first baitcast reel. I purchased the piscifun perseus. I watched a few videos and set my braking systems. I had nothing but birds nests. I came home and watched this video. I went out in my backyard and followed these directions. First cast was perfect and I just got more comfortable with each cast. Within a few casts I was like wow , was I over thinking things. It is now so easy and makes more sense. I thank you and your daughter for a great video.

Cast it out for them first and then put electrical tape around the line on the spool and then reel the line over the tape. When they cast they won’t backlash all the way down into the spool because the tape stops that. Makes it much easier digging out their backlash.

If you hold the reel so that the spool is vertical instead of horizontal then gravity doesn't pull your line down against the spool and slow down your cast or cause as many backlashes. It will really help your distance.

My 6 years old cheap okuma calera cast tumbz free only when I hit the water that I tumbz the spools lol 😝 and I leave a bit of slack on the spool it self 😉🤙. Now I’m thinking of trying a DC reel but I might get disappointed on the casting distance 🤷‍♂️
