Transitions are super important. Many trainers are teaching their clients to do commands and transitions with speed and excitement.
For a pet dog in a home, I find it way more valuable to teach your dog how to calmly transition from different things as our goal is to have a calm dog in follower state.
Instead of being released and flying off the place to the next activity, I find it way more valuable to teach the dog to calmly leave their place.
I actually prefer my dogs to calmly go to their place as well as I want it to be an association of relaxation in the home.
It is possible to use the place with speed if working a dog. I will do that with Nico but only outside at specific times. When the game is over, he understands that everything goes back to being calm.
Transitions are one of those tricky areas we tend to miss, especially when dog professionals are out there teaching their clients to do it.
Remember, our goal is to achieve a calm follower state as our dog’s default mindset. We can create excitement but we must have control of it👍
