I ran into a friend of mine back in 2007 revisiting Vietnam for the first time in Hue market who I haven't seen for 24 years she recognised first but unfortunately I said to her; who are you? she replied; Ngyen I couldn't remember her then I stayed away from her When I was back to London I do remember her( know ) she was mathematics prodigy at school in 1985 At that time my memory was really terribly

It's similar; however, "come across" is usually used for information. -- I came across an interesting article in the newspaper this morning. (past tense). It is possible to use "come across" for people.
