Cold video! Thanks for the tips and instructions. I learned a lot. You're a cold cat. I'll be checking out part two soon. I like the stapler idea. I'm going to get one and also some of your double-sided tapes. I watched your skiver video when I first purchased mine a couple of months ago. Your video really taught me tons about skiving. I've yet to use it in making something, but I have it ready, and I've tested it and done a few sample tries. A special thanks for listing the tools. You are definitely the man! For the record, cold means dope or cool. For some reason, people want to think of it as something terrible. Where I'm from, it means good or one of the best. Anyway, thanks again.

Why do you mark your seam allowances instead of using a drop down seam guide? It seems like it would take quite a bit of extra time.

Precision. The higher that accuracy when the build is started, the easier things go later down the road without adjustments. It’s faster to go slower of that makes sense… 👍

I’m new to bag making. How would your bag look if you put french seam on opposite side to make it look the same?
@MythLeatherCo
@MythLeatherCo 9 ай бұрын
The front and back are identical. This bag uses one pattern piece that makes all four panels. You just have to flip it over to make a left or right side. If you mean the sides, you’d need a post-bed machine to accomplish that task. At the time, we didn’t own one. This was my last time making this pattern as we developed our own pattern and methods. Hope that answered your question; thanks for watching!

Hi Garth....Great job...I've been a sculptor for years and have (de)evolved to loose texture, which can be a struggle to loosen up...which means It is a struggle for me at the leather bench to want to hurry....Your videos are a huge benchmark for me to slow up...Questions....I have a bunch of NZ farm raised deer..it pretty much has the hand of domestic but it is around 4oz or a bit less....Im wonder if that is too soft? ...and at least in the intro, you omitted the weight of the black veg for the base.....I hope your channel continues to grow, cuz i'm certain of the distraction....THX
@MythLeatherCo
@MythLeatherCo 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Craig! Thanks for watching my videos. 👍🏼 Slow and steady win the race when it comes to leatherwork in my opinion. There’s certain operations that I’ll rip through on my machine, but still controlled and precise. I think the Deer would a really cool look! I use some really buttery soft leathers for my bags, and give it stability with heavier interfacing on the drop-in liner. Gives the piece a really neat look! The black Dublin and accent is in 4-4.5oz range. Fairly typical weight for most of my stuff. Thanks for the compliments, Craig. I hope it grows too... but that takes content. I’m working on it. 😂

What sewing machine are you using and you noted that you switched machine Why? because the other machine was set up to do top stitching without you changing the foot. What foot is on this machine? and what is the name of the machine if I may ask?
@MythLeatherCo

The white machine is a Juki 1508. I use this machine mainly for construction. The silver machine is a Consew 255RB-2. This is my topstitching machine; always equipped with a left only 'zipper foot'

Thank you for the video, what a gorgeous bag! I’m trying to get more into making leather bags and bought a 1541s. At what ounce do I need to skive leather for bag making? I just bought some 2.5- 3 oz, 1-1.2 mm leather and am hoping I don’t need to skive it. Thank you and keep making the videos, I love them.
@MythLeatherCo
@MythLeatherCo 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Cindy! Thank you for the compliment, and thank you for watching our videos! As a General rule of thumb, you’ll want to skive the leather to about 1/2 of its original weight. Depending on your bag design and temper of leather, you may not need to skive 2.5-3.0 Oz at all! I would experiment on something small and try it out.

@craftyjuniper
@craftyjuniper 4 жыл бұрын
so you don't trim the base seam? wouldn't that make it easier to turn? how is your machine different than the 1541s? thanks
@MythLeatherCo
@MythLeatherCo 4 жыл бұрын
Lynda, this bag is tough to turn so I’ve made this a drop in. The 1508 is a vertical hook machine; bobbin loads from the top. 1541 is a horizontal hook; bobbin loads from the side. 1508 is a stronger more expensive machine for sure. I would’ve bought a 1541 if it were available. This one was second hand and was available. Either would be more than adequate for bag making. 👍🏼
