Back some years back (20 or so) when we had horses I got a pair of Olathe KS Buckeroo boots that had the high heal . Felt strange at first but really helped my feet and posture and wore them a lot . Just got a pair of Falcon's from your stock boots and ordered the wax flesh Urban Loggers which should follow soon . At 65 I'm hoping these will keep me going a few extra miles . Good info Grant , a lot do not understand the importance of arch support for some of us.

Prior to purchasing my first pair of Nicks, brown waxed flesh Urban Loggers, I had only worn boots with the standard block heels and I was a little nervous when I made my purchase, so much so that I opted for the fit sheet/try on sizing option. I'm glad I did and I'm glad I opted for the 55 last with the medium arch support. It was awkward at first. Even now after owning them for months and wearing them regularly, it's still a little awkward for the first 20 or 30 minutes of wearing them, since I wear them in a rotation with other boots that have block heels. But after the first 20 minutes or so and acclimating to them, they are incredibly comfortable and the arch support makes an amazing difference. I can wear them for work over a full day and don't feel need to kick them off as soon I get home. They're just damn comfortable with no foot soreness at any point throughout the day, which I do occasionally get after standing for long periods with block heels. I love the boots and my next Nicks pair will be on the 55 last as well. Opt for fit sheet/try on sizing option if you're unsure. The peace of mind is worth the extra time and money when you're talking about top quality boots that could last you 15 years.

I've never heard that about heels offering arch support. I've always found high heels in my work boots or cowboy boots uncomfortable . I figured it was because they didnt have an arch support. Most comfortable shoes I ever owned were multiple pairs of red wing loggers about twenty years ago when working on a drilling rig... looking to get back into a pair of nice loggers for work though I'm just a general contracting foreman now and don't need as much burlyness... but dang they were soo comfortable. I just wanna replicate that again! And the red wings only ever lasted about 8-12 months then time for a new pair... amd at $350 bucks, that's not much cheaper than Nicks. Which should last me the rest of my life now that I'm usually just standing on dirt or wood at worst, and under roof at least most of the time...

That’s interesting to think about. I’m no spring chicken these days, at least I don’t feel it, but my feet have never been more comfortable than in a pair of zero drop shoes. I love my boots, but the heel and those high arches kill my feet. HOWEVER, I’ve noticed my feet trending to having a little extra arch not being all that bad. Still prefer my zero drop and low heels but it’s an interesting thought to retain into the future, whether or not I’m going to need arch support. One size doesn’t fit all and everyone changes so it’s good to always keep your options open. For instance, I love my Thorogoods, but they’re getting long in the tooth and those darn Falcons are calling my name…
@rockyj5047 Жыл бұрын
I was just thinking about this and how it relates to zero drop shoes! I am a big backpacker and it's a well known fact in the long distance thru-hiking community that for the WIDE majority of hikers a zero drop shoe will fix knee/back/hip/ankle/feet issues when switching from high heels shoes. Nearly all of the Nicks boots I'm looking at have those high arches and it makes me really nervous they won't work for me as I walk a ton. They do have a lower arch profile (ThurmanNW last) but unfortunately don't offer many models with it, and they're still relatively high profile.

I don't understand how "having a higher heel allows bootmakers to build a higher arch into the boot"----why cant they put that same arch into a wedge sole? ( question coming from someone who needs a high arch but wants the comfort of the wedge sole since everyone seems to think the flat wedge is the most comfortable)
@nicksboots3 жыл бұрын
Building the arch into the wedge sole will feel more like a "lump" under your foot than an intentionally balanced lateral arch support. The heel toe toe drop of the 55 and 11067 lasts allow for material to built under the arch of the foot and balance in such a way that it feels natural. Wedge soles boots can accomplish this as well, but you really need to build up the heel resulting in a somewhat clunky boot. We are working on a solution to this problem however.
