I’m always amazed at the variety of disciplines of engineering you are tasked to deal with. You have to be what we call in English “A Jack of all trades,” meaning someone who is proficient in many, many tasks. I get where they are all tied to electricity as a power source but you have a good knowledge of pumps, fluids, and such. Of course, troubleshooting is troubleshooting, but it’s obvious you studied a lot of different manuals.

This indeed a very big aspect in the job of an electro Technical Officer onboard the ship.. he has to know all the details and the working principles of each machinery because he has to find the reason for the problem... its not only wires that a marine electrical engineer needs to know... he also is proficient in pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical engg to be good in what he does..!! Electro Technical Officers need more recognition and appreciation... keep up the good work...!

They will never have it. Actually ETO in many companies is treated as a junior officer, but he/she needs to know almost everything. That is why I hate this job already after 15 years at sea and do not want to continue to work on reefer vessels. Even if you have no problems with a ship, everyday you have to check reefers, doesn't matter Sunday, Monday...container vessels are now the most shitty vessels to work on.

If there is no spare solenoid coil available on board, in emergency it is possible to use the coil from hot gas valve. It is very easy to shift from hot gas valve to expansion valve, and also need to shift positive wire on the controller from output signal of hot gas valve to expansion valve terminal. In this case when the unit is in defrost mode only electrical heaters will melt the ice on evaporator coil. This will not affect so much to the operation of the unit.
@Anzarvitalbio Жыл бұрын
Replacing veco with vexp or vhg The problem will stay the same, with more ice on the compressor, the compressor will stay running without stopping even if the unit reach in range state, the suction pressure will drop more and supply temperature will defer more than the return

Economizer is to cool compressor?
@leckyjake2 жыл бұрын
nope it is to improve the cooling capacity, act as heat exchanger for the high side and the cooling of the compressor is the least.
@websitesthatneedanem2 жыл бұрын
Great video! 👍 1. Are ships responsible for the operation of all refrigerated containers? 2. What if you can't get to a container, eg, buried in hold or 10 units high? 3. There must be hundreds of different types of refrigerator unit / controls, do you keep diagrams and spare for all? 4. What if you can't fix it or not correct spare available?
@Tech-NO-City2 жыл бұрын
Yes ETO are expected to work on the 4 major types of reefer containers, there is a way to access every container on the vessel. They have all the diagrams and spare parts. They also have lots of spares but if for some reason they dont the reefer has emergency operating modes along with emergency repair directions, such as bypassing systems.
