I also appreciated the discussion on the “working” leg. Early on in my recovery, I was easily confused by the terms, “affected/unaffected” & “involved/uninvolved.” Think I got it now 5 years later, but I do like “working” as a way to focus on the side I’m currently working on. Thanks!

Great info. I am 8 months po bilateral knee replacement and haven’t had real good results with our 8 inch steps in our two story house. I tried this after listening to your video and I feel that it’s my new lease on my life since graduating PT. Thank You,

Excellent exercises to gain the confidence needed to descend safely. My suggestion is to start with a small height of 4-5 steps and gradually increase with the handrail. I have a three-story building near my house and I often go there by stairs. I step on each step with the other foot and feel an increase in security with an increase in muscle strength. There is no need to rush, persistence will surely pay off. Have a nice week.

Wow! Fantastic video. I’ve always wondered why I prefer stepping down with my involved leg--another compensatory habit to work on 😉 thank you

Another winner Dr. T! 20 months into recovery following a hemmorrhagic and I'm all over stairs. I climb my in home 1 story stairs 3-5 times a day, step through. Still glued to the handrail.quad extention is solid from hip it's knee and ankle (I recently saw you have a specific a vid on ankle exercises it's knees and ankles that are weak on this body. I'm working up to hops and jumps and wondering if a mini trampoline used near my home gymwallmount hand rails makes sense as an ankle-knee recovery tool? My pt (who has hx as sports injury pt for Olympic athletes) wants to go there, but I don't see the brain train angle. He's great but he's not a DNPT As a former martial artist I love your rep approach to recovery training. It becomes kata. Perfect for a knucklehead like me

One of my problems when trying to use both legs to descend the steps is that my stroke leg swings inwards when I lead with it and I would end up treading on it with my other (good) foot. As a result, I only use my good leg to lead when descending. Going up the stairs has its own problems because my stroke leg won’t bend. All part of the frustration of recovery and trying to get back as much of what I had before my stroke.
