Remember when we told people there's no underlying conspiracy of a bunch of people to do *whatever*? This is why, because that many people, can't keep their mouths shut. But Trump supporters will say, Trump got caught doing "nothing wrong", BUT that "Brainless Joe Biden" has some sort of massive conspiracy that include over 1400 court cases, and hundreds of different judges, lawyers, DOJ officials, and a bunch of democratic politicians. Yet they can't find one single solid piece of evidence. So Biden is both barely conscious, but also so much of a criminal mastermind that he's managed to have Thousands and thousands of republicans, Democrats, indipendants, judges, doctors, lawyers, cops, FBI agents, reporters, and who knows what else, and no one has provided a single shred of evidence. 😂

The thing that's terrifying about this to me is the public response compared to Nixon. Nobody, including Nixon himself, considered it controversial that he should be a political pariah after what he did, and he did a lot less than Trump. The fact that Trump is willing to claim that this is a partisan witch hunt and have a substantial number of people actually believe him is a terrifying sign that America is getting worse.

I could be wrong, but I think most of the Department of Justice and possibly even Joe Biden were extremely reluctant to build a case against a former President. To even start, they wanted a lot of evidence, both from witnesses and in more forensic form. This was complicated by the revelations of what Trump decided he was entitled to take when he left the White House, from classified documents to antiquities that had been loaned by Israel. Biden and the Department of Justice wanted to protect themselves as much as possible from the inevitable and entirely predictable accusations of political bias and campaign interference. Trump had already accused the Obama administration of interfering with his 2016 campaign when an investigation started into Russian interference in that election.

I would love it if he actually got held accountable for it but that never happens. If any of us threatened the DOJ, a judge, a DA, or incited our base to threaten or attack all three, we would be held indefinitely without bail until trial. He gets keep doing exactly what he is facing indictments for. Inciting violence and lying endlessly about a stolen election that never was stolen. Its one of the moments where all we need right now is for our criminal justice system to have the balls to put him in cuffs and drag him off to jail. Today. We don't have that tho. They fear him and his base and that pisses me off. if I was heading the DOJ, Trump would have been held in jail for years already. One dangerousness hearing would do it. There are mountains of evidence that he is both a flight risk and cannot stop inciting violence. That is more than enough but no one will do it. Its infuriating. I feel like if he doesn't go to jail for any of these crimes, it may be time for a different brand of justice. I read the indictment front to back as I did with the documents case and again I'm blown away. Trump's entire defense hangs on 'Free Speech' to speak out and be heard. But while you can say just about anything you like, you cannot independently act on those beliefs in ways that attempts to interfere, harass or intimidate. Smith and his team have clearly and very methodically laid out those actions in context with the protected speech of Trump and his co-conspirators. So there is going to be no confusion by any reasonable jury on where the free speech ends and where the crime begins. Every time Trump's counsel makes the free speech argument Smith's team is going to clarify.

All the same it is remarkable how Trump is still given so much leeway to incite/defame/grossly insult and undermine even the most fundamental accepted standards of conduct. Boris Johnson attempted to do proportionally the same in Britain (aided by partisan newspapers and other media companies and die-hard elements of his party), but the different political and social culture in Britain led to his quicker rejection by his party and the public and his being forced into resigning from parliament before the consequences properly caught up with him. The difference in the US is that Republican members of Congress know that they could lose reelection by pissing off 10-15% of their voter base. While in office Trump's team installed numerous allies into many of the state level republican parties. Look what happened to the Republican US representatives that voted for his impeachment? most lost primary challenges in 2022. I am certain that only a few elected Republicans actually like Trump. Most of them are just trying to hold on until he fades away. I guarantee many of them are hoping he gets convicted and loses the 2024 election so the party can finally move on. It's my understanding of the UK's system that the majority party can remove the PM and then choose another one from within the party, so they don't lose too much politically. In the US, Congress doesn't choose the President so voters in each representatives district would likely feel very upset if their representative removed the person they voted for from office.

@@rickglorie People would be inclined to doubt you, but as a Zoomer with faith in the democratic institutions of this country, I'm actually inclined to agree with you. It's very clear we've overcome the worst by beating Trump's incumbency advantage in 2020 with all the young people that went out to vote for Biden in droves, and not even an attempted insurrection could clamp that back. Many democracies simply *would not survive* if such a person like Trump did all that he did, so the fact there's still an entire plurality of the country dedicated to democracy shows how much the democratic spirits goes back in the country. Any person who's arguing "it's a republic, not a democracy!" is spitting in the face of the many brave men and women who fought and died trying to ensure our rights, or were callously thrown to the pyre of imperialism by bitter old men who never had to raise a gun in their lives. Make no mistake: the worst *IS* over. Gen. Z is the most leftward it's ever been here in the USA, and too many people give a shit to let the country fall into the hands of autocrats who don't care about democratic rule. The fact Ohio's Republican caucus tried to cheat for abortion banning and they were STILL thwarted shows people are done with the Republicans. Even Republican youth are more privy to stuff like climate change (y'know, largely because they have to *live* in the future of Earth), a fact that should frankly *terrify* Republican strategists.

I was talking to my mom about how weird various Republican politicians were being when reporters asked them about the election before any votes were even cast. Person after person was asked the simple question “ If Biden is elected, will you concede to the will of the people?” And person after person did the same thing-they would smirk a little, do a bit of “ um, er” ing, and then say something like “ I am fully prepared to accept the legitimately elected presidential candidate.” So the reporter, noticing the weirdness, would repeat the part about the possibility that candidate might be Biden, and they would smirk again and basically just repeat whatever waffly script- chunk they had just uttered. It was freaking weird. Does anyone else remember that? I totally remember barking “ Answer the damn question!” at the TV. I was fully prepared that Team Trump was preparing to whine about election grift well before the election results came in, but in retrospect that creepy little dance they were doing with the media is pretty chilling.

The problem as I see it is that the good people who support Trump are simply willingly ignorant of the real man. They choose to only watch news outlets that don't tell the truth. Those outlets just parrot Trump's lies verbatim. I have a friend who is one of those Trump supporters. A genuinely nice guy. He even says he doesn't like Trump as a person but supports him due to his policies. He clearly does not watch any of the outlets that are very honest and reliable and report fault on whatever side they are investigating.

Law schools really need to do a better job of screening applicants. And right now we can consider Aileen Cannon to be after-the-fact co-conspirator #7.
@LegalSenpai
@LegalSenpai Жыл бұрын
Sadly this isn't the case. Law school admissions have plummeted in the last 10 years with the top college graduates not going into the field. It fell so much so that the LSAT was dropped as an admission standard*, as well as a fight between law schools and the state bars with the NCBE (National Conference of Bar Examiners). On one side, the law schools argue the Bar exam (both for state and the multistate portions) are being made harder and that's why Bar passage rates are down. On the other side, state bar's and the NCBE argue that...well...stop accepting worse applicants. You can only do so much to keep people in law school with attrition rate being a very real thing even if the curve is set high. At the end of the day, it is a business, and you will have idiots and villains in every field. Sadly.
