What's up with those large green hands in the sky?
@ConfusedNero6 жыл бұрын
Even though i agree with your interpretation that the green hands are connected with the meaning of the red/green scene, i kinda disagree with your guys deduction that green means bad. You see in that scene we see Oliver teaches a kid (the audience) a delusion. The delusion is that red is good and green is bad and that gets the kid killed. The show is trying to confuse the audience and cast doubt playing with their fundamental basics. Up to this point we knew that we could trust colors in season 1 to tell us what is going on, David was Blue and the Shadow King was Red. So now we don't know if we can trust a delusional thought (that red is good) and therefore we can't trust David and his action, or if we trust our knowledge so far (that red is bad) and therefore David is trying to do his best. Don't forget that in the scene that the green hands are pointing at David, he confesses to Syd his secrets, so i still think that green means good.

Something I found interesting is that the Admiral is seen as a sort of bad guy and Amahl Fourk as the good guy, connecting to the red and green scene.

I love the thoughts here! But ignoring the whole red/green idea, you could interpret the hands as a visual reminder that we don’t really know where we are, we don’t know what’s going on. When is the present? When is the future? Where are we headed? Could this be linked to the maze idea, there is no direction to these hands, no way out, we have to navigate on our own. Maybe they’re pointing us away from something, we should be looking within, what they’re not pointing at (pair that idea with when they’re looking for Farouk and David leads them outside, but Oliver and Lenny were actually in Division 3)
@billstorie51616 жыл бұрын
Glad someone else spotted that mate - as far as I can tell the hands are identical to the flying glove in "Yellow Submarine" and the glove is the chief weapon of the king of the blue meanies so are they hinting that David has become, albeit unknowingly, Farouk's weapon against the rest of the team? David may think he's doing things for the right reasons but the reality is that he's just a puppet - Farouk isn't strong enough to control David in the same way as Oliver but by subtly insinuating that David's choices are his own, especially with regard to the future version of Syd which may not even be real, he gets David to do his bidding. Also, in the movie the flying glove was defeated by the song "all you need is love" so maybe Syd is the key to bringing him back into line? Then again it may just be the writers screwing with us which, given how entertaining this show is, I'm perfectly happy fot them to do!

Who can take down David if he becomes the big bad? The Shadow King of course. Future Syd is trying to stop David from killing the Shadow King so that when David does go bad, they still have the Shadow King around to help defeat him. Not the best plan, but who else have they got who can possibly take down David? Of course, Shadow King will almost certainly end up betraying them anyway and then they'll have to big bads that they have to defeat, making things much worse, but what are you going to do? I think Farouk's conversation with David was also a message to the audience about putting aside your expectations and preconceived notions, especially from other superhero media. Because in most comics and sci-fi, psychic battles are still often portrayed like physical battles. You have the combatants hitting each other, forming weapon and shield constructs, shooting each other with mind lasers, etc. But if it's all taking place in the mind, then the rules of the physical world don't matter. Who cares if you think of an image of someone getting punched? The pain isn't real. An imaginary sword doesn't have to cut. It doesn't matter what weapons they create or turn into, none of it have to conform to the laws of the real world. Dueling with thoughts, imagination, memories, will power should be completely different than any kind of physical contest. Also, the whole thing with Lenny is very suspect. Don't forget that there were two "Lenny's." When they visited David's old girlfriend, Ptnomy found out that the Lenny David used to get high with was actually a guy named "Benny." And the Shadow King had actually altered David's memories to replace Benny with Lenny. So how much of what we saw of Lenny in season 1 was actually Benny? Was Lenny even a drug addict like Benny? And it was Syd who killed Lenny when she switched bodies with David and lost control of his powers. So was it actually Syd who "absorbed" Lenny's "mind?"
@lseul88126 жыл бұрын
One thing to make sure that is noted is there portrayal of mental warfare. They outlined in a monologue to the audience that humans because of this are the only to go mad. The mental warfare that goes on is realistic in that it is meant to deceptive and manipulation. The psychic abilities only amplifies that in another dimension. Being able to plant memories and thoughts into people.

One tidbit I found interesting is the music box left behind by the Shadow King that upset Syd. At first, I thought the music was just another TV reference (“Out of This World” 4EVER), but I thought that while Oliver and Lenny sing the same song, they sing different lyrics. Turns out that it’s also an old Bing Crosby song called “Swinging on a Star,” in which someone asks a kid if they would rather be different types of animals than go to school. This is probably a reference to some traumatic event when Syd accidentally swapped bodies with an animal when she first manifested her powers.

When the Shadow King took over David's body to attack Division 3 in season 1, he was also dancing and making a performance out of it. Now they might be able to share their age.

I don't think any of what has happened in season 2, or maybe even the entire show, has been real. David is powerful enough to create entire universes. I feel like they definitely toyed with that idea in season 1 when Syd appeared in Davids room after the door swung open and, seemingly, no one walked in. And again when David appeared in Syds room. But season 2 is just a complete mind fuck of misdirection, and even the overall tone is more reminiscent of the time spent on the astral plane in season 1. And now that Farouk is out of Davids head, Davids multiple personalities are starting to form appearing as the voices in his head. There's one thing that you always have to keep in mind when empathizing with Davids character. David is fucking crazy! No matter how hard the show tries to get you to believe that he's just a victim of Farouk, and that he's somewhat stable when he's lucid and in control. He's not. David is one the most delusional characters ever created. If the producers wanted to, they could easily have this season end by revealing that season 2s reality isn't real, and having David be responsible for creating it in order to deal with the emotional loss of losing the Shadow King. Future Syd, the orb, and everything else might be his own delusions birthed by the idea that he can't live without Farouk. His subconscious may have easily created a new reality in order to convince his ego to reunite with Farouk. That's how insane David is. And that's what I love about this show. The clever misdirections that force the audience to form their own ideas about what's going on is what makes this show amazing!

I think green and the green hands, might actually represent judgment, shame or paranoia. I noticed in the scene between Syd and David that every shot you see represents where judgement or blame is going in the scene. So when David blames himself or feels the world is blaming him, the point toward him from without or within. But when he accuses her or she accuses him they point away at the other person. And Syd’s tend to be blurrier because she’s less sure of who to blame or accuse for the situation.

The whole “She lives in the future you are trying to change, and when you do she will cease to exist” speech from Farouk in the preview is giving me David/Ruth in Legacy vibes. In fact, since the first ep of this season that kinda element and idea of time and futures and fates changing has been on my brain. Not sure how significant the influence of that comic storyline will be this season. But it’s something to think about... When Future!Syd was talking in this episode something she said immediately made me go ‘mindworm!’ but I’m a bit hazy on that aspect as it’s been a while since I read the Legacy series.

Possible clue (or a stretch), but when David leaves the boat cafe to meet Farouk in the astral plane, as he sits we see that his socks are green and red striped...exactly the colors/pattern of Freddy Krueger's sweater in A Nightmare on Elm Street. Freddy is an evil "Dream Master"...it could be a subtle clue to what you were saying about David being the big bad...that he's manipulating everyone's minds like Freddy does in dreams. Could be nothing, but interesting (and subtle enough) that the wardrobe dept. would choose that exact color scheme/pattern for his socks.

Good point, but Logan definitely takes place in the relatively distant future so Prof X could very well be alive during the events of the Legion series. In the conversation of David with future Syd. Syd mentions she hasn't seen him like this for a long time. Maybe she means a "good" David. Maybe David is indeed the big evil thing in the future and Syd is misleading him by getting him to help Farouk. She knows David beat Farouk, so she wants him to help Farouk get stronger so Farouk can defeat David while he is stronger. Also small thought: The orb being reused doesn't make sense. Since this would mean they are mixing two time travel principles. If it's all a loop and the orb gets reused over and over, then Syd comming from the future would be void since she can't avoid it and she would know this because she would probably asks Cary to use/build it. Also since future Syd doens't know David could thelepaticly contact her in the future. It seems reasonable to assume there are already two different timelines and not a loop.

It's also stated that there's a personality that is a centaur, but no specific ability. Hopefully this season shows how David can absorb a persona or a real person consciousness. Legion in the comic has the ability that The Shadow King has where he can absorb someone, as where Pharuuk had Lennys mind inside of his.

Regard the Orb: There's a series on Netflix, Dark, that hinges on this idea of the future influencing the past and has this exact sort of mechanism, where an inventor is presented with an old broken version of machine he'd given up on. Thanks so much! I think there are a couple factors - they don't want to make Farouk a completely evil villain, he needs some nuance and moral code. I'm interested in the future version of Syd that David visits via the daiquiri tank. She makes some vague reference to having to use the Shadow King because of a greater evil that kills everyone which seems to be referencing Apocalypse considering that Legion is involved with the Age of Apocalypse story as well as the future, along with what could be more deadly than the Shadow King, along with some vague reference to Domino...Anyway that's just my read at the moment.

I think Farouk has created the reality David is currently in and that the Admiral is Farouk. My reasons mostly have to do with the beehive pattern, which is throughout Division 3 and when David meets Farouk in the astral plane, he is wearing hive-shaped glasses. If you look closely at the Admiral through his tengai hat in the scenes with the Vermilion, it looks like he has glasses and when they are fighting, Farouk puts on a samurai outfit...I thought that was suspicious. Furthermore, the idea of the delusion is a constant theme and I found it interesting that they are sitting at a Fortune Teller booth. Fortune Tellers are often seen with suspicion because they take what they know about a customer and manipulate information to seem as if they somehow know more than they do or "predict" a future for the customer. Following that line then, I still think future Cyd (Cid? Syd? whatever) is just a way to manipulate David and does not exist at all. In this episode, one of the background scenes when he meets Cyd shows Chernobyl when she is saying that the world is destroyed. It may be nothing or could be a clue of something not being quite right. Completely outside of this, I believe in the Legion X-Men Legacy comics, David actually traps his personalities in a maze inside his mind to keep them contained until he is in need of accessing them. Which brings up: is anyone at Division 3 real? or are they all just David? I still wonder that, especially certain characters who do not ever seem to be around when he isnt or know things that are happening even when they are not around physically. Maybe this beehive is just the mind and he is stuck inside himself? Komusō, which are the zen monks who wear the type of hat the Admiral wears; wore the hats to "contain their ego" and 虚無僧 (komusō) means "priest of nothingness" or "monk of emptiness" or "false." I am probably reading into this all way too much, but I think the writers are trying to be clever. Long rant, sorry. LOL
@punkfloyd6 жыл бұрын
Future Syd is a vermillion-esque robot. Consider the way she speaks to David when he shows up: she says “...possible...not possible...for you to be here...” David tries to read her mind but cannot. When she is about to explain why he cannot read her mind, by saying “because I’m...” David interrupts her and says “from the future, yeah.” But she doesn’t bother to correct him because David and the audience aren’t meant to know why exactly he can’t read her mind but I’ll bet it doesn’t have to do with being from the future, it’s something else.

I also think that Legion himself is the big bad guy / the delusion is one of his personalities which takes over and kills everyone. Hi, I think some kind of parallel is going on either with the universe or two David’s, or even two roads for him to take or be on because stripes are everywhere. David’s shirt, the fortune telling booth etc... and they don’t intersect. - Crissy G.

Hey guys! If you watch episodes 1 and 2 of season 2 with subtitles, it reveals that there are two Davids (1 and 2) in his head. And neither are British, so this could show his personality splitting.

When David goes to that purple room to talk to "Future" Syd, he tries to read her mind. He can't and she says I don't think you can do that because I'm from.....then David finishes her sentence and says "the future, I know". I think there is something to this.

Did anyone notice the fortune tellers' ring. The symbol is the same as Sinister's third eye from the comics.

I don’t think David will end up being the big bad this season but the last season possibly, because I remember hearing before the show first aired that it was going to be like the Breaking Bad of the superhero world, so far I haven’t seen the comparison but if it follows the decent Walter went through then I could see that play out with David in a similar fashion all be it different

I think, to add to your comment about David being untrustworthy and the green hands, that David is heading towards developing split personalities like in the comics. There are moments were you hear his internal dialog and over the past 2 episodes it has become more like a conversation/argument between multiple people than a string of thoughts. This also could tie into David’s conversation with future Sid where she mentions that his is dead/not around, I think she could be talking about this how ‘this’ David is gone and another of his personality is there instead and he is using his powers to his full extent, almost like the shadow king has pulled this personality out of him so he becomes the big bad of the season.

All I want is an episode set in Pink Floyd Echoes. All of it in real time reflecting whole story in the episode without a break

When Shadow king was talking to David, he kinda hinted the future of legion how David is more stronger than he think he is and how he could tap in his inner most stronger personality name Legion “bigger than Jesus”

It's possible that the shadow king is trying to find the monk but everytime he looses a fight with him it makes the people around them go mad.

Why didn't you; mention that Lenny is revealed as a seemingly different entity from the Shadow King himself? It is revealed that she was possibly absorbed when Syd killed her while switched into David's body. That was what I thought was the largest reveal of the episode and I was waiting for your take on it but you guys did not speak a word of it. Please address it in the next video!

Jon Hamm playing the older version of the boy talking to Oliver? Perhaps he's stuck in the ethereal plain in that form.

In Episode 1, David gives Syd a compass that will always point to him. The arrow was Red. Is this of any significance?

there's something that I don' understand, in the first season shadow king didn't want to get out of David's mind and the whole season was about that, and now in this season shadow king is dying to find his body, why didn't he look for his body from the beginning.

I think in this episode we had a glimpse of Oliver’s powers. I’m calling it incinerate, like Bioshock.

Ryan are you Jimmy Fallon's undercover brother? It's a bit Uncanny how your voice, appearance, demeaner, and annunciation are so similar. Anyway the show is awesome. I'm a new big fan and follow up every episode of Legion with your show to see your take on that episode. Great work guys!
