As a former mechanic and workshop owner I like how you diagnose faults! Your meticulous inspections and testing eliminates potentially faulty components, narrowing the list of 'suspects' in your Jeep's mystery history! By showing viewers how to eliminate potentially faulty or broken components, you help to dissuade them from simply replacing everything they think could be the cause of their problem! Showing viewers how to economically clean their clogged and dirty fuel injectors is excellent, and imparts knowledge and confidence that will remain with them in the future! Your adventures in automotive investigations are interesting, informative and entertaining, thank you for sharing!

It’s really nice to see one of you online KZbin mechanics that advocate for the community to take the time to actually troubleshoot the issues your having with the vehicle instead of just Throwing parts at it Cause then when you do get it running you have no idea what fixed it!! It is the absolute WORST way to try and work thru an issue and fix the problem and not to mention that it could get extremely expensive, extremely quick!! How would you like it if you took your car to the shop for repair and they just started changing everything in the ignition system and then tried starting It but still have The same issue so you change a bunch of the fuel system parts and try starting it with no luck and on and on. If it’s in the shop, then you just spent thousands on replacement parts that you quite possibly didn’t need at all and you can not return electrical or fuel related parts once installed. Learn how to troubleshoot folks!! Your wallet is gonna thank you so much for doing so!!!!

Great job Alex. You reminded me when I cleaned my car injectors beside the road once. All I used was a syringe and a carb cleaner. The injector fit inside the plunger side of syringe and the nozzle of the carb cleaner on the other side. With a connector to the battary, I would press the carb cleaner and frantically connect and disconnect the injector to cycle it. It worked just fine in the situation I was in. Great work on the channel BTW. Been here from the black C43. I can't wait to see it grow.

For many people the cost of repair, rental car, towing, lost wages etc can be more than the cost of getting a newer car with a warranty on a payment for $200-300/month. And obviously most people don't work on their own cars whether its due to lack of knowledge/tools/time/ space to do it etc

I bought a Q45 a few years back for $400 W/ 160K miles from an auction. It was donated to Kars for Kids, I was very skeptical when buying it but they said it ran and drove, all it needed was some decent TLC because it was neglected and abandoned just like this. I had looked into the history and found out it was a 1 owner car for most of its life, then its final few years it went to someone else and literally sat for years. Not sure where the negligence started, I suspect with the second owner, (more on that later), but when I got it, the rotors were BADLY grooved, all 4 replaced, the car had wheel locks and I think they just gave up and never replaced the rotors because they didn't have the lock, needed 2 front calipers(they were stuck), a windshield (hail), small hail dings(easy fix), alternator (died on the highway, in the middle of downtown, uphill so I couldn't change lanes, at 5pm rush hour from the auctionhouse, very fun), AC recharge, power steering was clogged, tire balance, alignment, etc. Literally just lack of maintience stuff that I fixed really fast. Car shined up VERY easily and became a super reliable car. The tires were basically brand new, dated back to right around before the car was sold. I also looked back into the maint history and found out it was taken care of pretty decently by the original owner, which is why I think it was the second owner who neglected it, tons of service going up to when he sold it. It happens though, as a commenter said, $200-$300/month is worth it to never have to maintain a car if you don't know anything about cars. More steals for us though.

I cant help but be amused at the "certified automotive techs". Some years ago, a buddy of mine had a mid 90s Dakota 318 that wouldnt start. He had not 1 but 2 of those so called certified auto techs come by and look at it, one lived right across the street from him, both said they'd need to have it towed to their shops and hooked onto the computer. Then, my phone rings, I go over, try to crank it, of course it doesn't fire up, pulled the coil wire off the distributor, stuck a screwdriver in it, held the screwdriver close to an engine bolt, no spark. 15 minutes and a new coil later, he was running again. Sometimes you need those diagnostic computers, but unfortunately, techs seem to depend on them a little too much

I too have a 1998 Grand Cherokee Limited 5.9er. I live about 35 mike South of Kankakee. Here is a little heads up on your VIC unit. That's the little display down by the shift. I noticed during the video it was throwing a coolant temp sensor. Those unit were bad for false error messages. The reason for this was because in the 97 and 98 models Chrysler was using a lead free solder on all of the solder joints. Over the years the solder joints will crack and it will give you false error reading on the VIC unit. The repair is easy remove the unit and reflood the solder joints on the circuit board where the plug goes in. The headlight switch and dimmer had the same issue. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. And keep the videos coming.

I drove two old Mopars here with gas that smelled like paint thinner and they ran surprisingly well considering one lost the accelerater pump in the carb and the other was missing the kick down spring that tells the transmission when to up shift and eventually make it to third gear.

It had a few bubbles in the paint starting and the interior was still in very good to excellent condition.
