My good friend was quoted $3,000 to perform every maintenance item on his 2014 C300 4-Matic from the Mercedes Dealer. This included items like spark plugs, the B Service, a transmission service, and more. I couldn't let him pay that so I completed it all for $650 and show you how to do the same. What you're about to see applies to many different Mercedes models. The master list of cars that share use the M276 engine is down below but you just need to know that this applies to you if you have the 722.9 7-speed transmission that came out around 2005 or the M276 engine that came out in 2010 in some areas of the world and 2014 in the United States. The air filters are different on the twin-turbo version of the engine but the spark plug replacement is basically the same procedure on the naturally aspirated and twin-turbo M276. So you could have anything from a C Class to an ML to an S Class and many parts of this video will apply to you.

@@tafaranyambara Mine just hit 150,000 miles so im addressing a few things. Just noticed the transmission pan is rusted so replacing that while doing fluid and filter change, total was $193 for fluid filter gasket, pan was $64 so you may not need that. I replaced brake pads and rotors, front was $189 in parts and rear was $146. Front sway bar links were clunking so replaced those for $71. Oil leaking from crankcase breather cover so just replaced the cover and drip pan for $54. Had a front spring break while parked so I replaced both complete struts with used struts I found on ebay from 30,000 mile Cali cars so no rust, think I paid $120 shipped for the pair. Rear springs looked rusty so I found a used low mileage set on ebay from Cali salvage yard for $45 shipped for the pair. I will say if I didn't work in it myself and paid someone it would get expensive. Plus it's been a New England car so salt and rust. Only had 1 check engine light which turned out to be a purge valve which I replaced with a used one on ebay for $12 shipped. I'm good at finding deals. Tons of W204 C300 used parts in ebay from Cali salvage yards, parts look almost new. I follow all the recommended service in the manual. Brake line flush, coolant replacement etc. I already had alot of tools for working on cars, the one thing I had to buy was a good torx socket set since Mercedes uses that type of bolts alot.

Alex is a really cool dude. I was always taught to stay away from MBZ. I now own a 2012 E350 blutec. You would think that I've lost my mind, but I now perform the maintenance myself since the cpo warranty has expired. I now have an icarsoft computer, I've changed the transmission fluid per manufacturer specs. Using Emanual I have more confidence performing maintenance. Thank you Alex! When fitting a new o ring on the oil filter don't forget to apply some fresh oil to the ring. It prevents the ring sticking when you are torquing it down, and prevents ripping. Small detail.

Done another 30,000 miles since then over the last two years, and only the injector seals to go... Just getting run in at 230,000 miles. Lovely comfortable long distance cruiser and tow vehicle.

Hi Alex! For drain the converter you have to disassemble the auxiliary oil pump, then you have a hole about 3 cm in front of which comes the drain plug from the converter. You make a great job!

You don’t need that kit to drain the gearbox, the manual says to remove the stop/start pressure pump (three bolts) and then gain acces to the drain plug for the converter.

i see how messy a transmission service is on a benz, and it cements my fears. a drain and fill on most japanese cars is literally a magnetic drain bolt, that you refill up thru the dip stick.

Motive Power bleeder is a Godsend for brake fluid flush. 45 mins total (including jacking up car, removing wheels, etc.) I drained the extra 4 qts of atf via the cooler lines during my 722.9 service. Disconnect the cooler line, attach tube, start car (briefly) & drain 1 qt at a time, pump in 1 qt new fluid, repeat. Also, made a fluid pump out of a $15 HDX garden sprayer. Worked out perfectly. 9.5 qts changed. I have a C207 E coupe (half w204, half w212) & generally these cars are stupid easy for all the general stuff.

Last week I brought in my '10 E350 4Matic (142k miles) to the dealer for the service B and to inspect a brake fluid leak (it would go from max to min in about 4-5 days). The dealer said that all the brake lines were bad and needed to be replaced, at a cost of $4k. The inspection also said that we needed new engine and motor mounts, new brake rotors, new spark plugs, needed to replace some sort of plug at the back side of the motor that was seeping oil, transmission service, new tires and wheel alignment. If we did all of the necessary (brake lines) and the recommended repairs, the total bill would have been over $16k. We just traded in the car and bought a CPO '18 C300 4Matic instead. The downside was that they still charged us for the B service (they charged us $800 for that), plus an additional $285 for the diagnostic on the brake lines.

Sounds like your MB dealer might be part of a large, publicly-traded company based in the Pacific Northwest...My local dealer was acquired from the 50+ year family ownership by that company and shortly after I started getting "Youneeds" along those same lines when I had the car in for service. I took my business to the dealer a little ways down the highway (independently owned) and that was the end of that!

For draining the converter its pretty Easy. You can remove te bottom valveblock underneath the converter and there is a rubber dustcap you can remove so you have easy acces to the converter drainplug. And that way you also dont make a mess! :) the fluid comes out easy if you put a little pressure in the oilpan, so that way you are sure all the fluid is out! 🙂

Another option for the trans fluid is doing 2 or 3 fluid drains about 1-2 weeks apart. That will get the large majority of the old fluid out and mix in the new. On our Mazda Slyactiv 6 speed I did 2 drain and fills each around 4 quarts, then a final drain with pan drop and filter replacement which took about 5 quarts. By my calculations that got about 90% of the old fluid replaced with new.

Definitely check the M276 for timing chain noise and timing I’m general. The NA M276 has bad problems with the timing chain. The turbo versions of the engine are fine. They are basically bulletproof.

Great help! I feel more confident to do the transmission now and brake fluid. I was quoted £2000 for replacement brake pads and brake discs all round my eclass 220cdi w212 from a MB dealer. Steep! Went on Autodoc, waited until black Friday and bought all new "ATE" pads and discs. I also use Mannol oil that works out at £2.50 per litre and is 229.51 mb approved! Owning a 2nd hand MB can be very reasonable I you are prepared to do the work.

so true. the emblem on my e350 broke off one day after falling in a ditch. the dealer quoted $900 because they wanted to replace the entire grille for some reason even though the only thing broken besides the emblem was one little latch that holds the emblem in place. I bought a used emblem for $50, put it in and guess what, it was held in place despite missing one latch. crazy

Have owned a 4matic w204 for close to 12 years. The M272 variant. Always done my own service/repair. I have not drained fluid from torque converter since. So far no major issues (other than a broken intake manifold swirl flap actuator arm). The only other fluid I have not replaced is the front diff oil, still trying to figure out the best approach.

Nice work, so nice to see people being real about maintenance. My only criticism is to never use power tools on installing spark plugs. It is too easy to Crack a ceramic. If you have compressed air, please dust out the sparkplug holes before removal.

Real great video Alex. On the V6 the spark plugs towards the plenum is the most difficult of the 6 to get out.

In certain MB models using this engine, removing the plenum is unavoidable. It would be nice to have a video on that procedure. The few available on YT are not that good. Please consider it.

Just finished the B service in my 08 S550, '10 E350 and '02 ML320. Pretty much all the same with the W163 being the oddball. I used to have a similar cooling evacuation tool but found the Robinair 75260 and am SOLD on it's ease of use. Also when changing on the oil on the m112, M272 and M273 motors I just dump the new oil in the filter housing, but it looks like on the m276 the housing is a bit deeper in the engine compartment. Nice work as always Alex, going to invest in the transmission pressure flush device. I'm pushing 180k miles on the S550 and want to keep it running as long as I can before the rebuild/sell decision comes up.

I did the oil in the filter on my 272 and it was a huge mistake, dumped like 2 quarts out of it and took me 2 days of cleaning the engine to get rid of the excess. 😂

A little story about transmission pan bolts - my friend once had W210 with 2.8L M104. Very sporty car it was, did burnouts like crazy and relatively quick overall. He did an oil change in transmission (722.5) and overtightened the bolts. trans started to leak. He did not notice that. Lost 5th, 4th, 3rd gear and reverse. In the end he span the engine bearings. So be careful with bolts

Alex's shredded gloves are really just his Venom like skin coming through on camera. When he shows us using Keeps, it's really just a serum to keep his powers in check. Otherwise, he would hurt himself on a car and go berserk and rip the engine out of the car and launch it down the block.

I had one of those , same year as well. It was a great car until 75k miles then the camshaft position sensor started leaking oil through the wiring harness and into the ECU. The repair was about 50% of the value of the car at the time. I drive a Toyota truck now.

Next year I'm going to do all the fluids in my no longer new car. Believe it or not, brake fluid isn't outlined anywhere in the routine maintance - I'm hoping 4 years is fine (it still looks clean and contamination free, and my car doesn't have a lot of miles on it).

Generally speaking it's a good idea to change brake fluid every 2 years in the spring. Even if it looks clean it absorbs moisture and becomes compressible, which reduces brake performance.

@@matthewhook3375 Yea. Well accuse me of being a bad owner because I usually wait till it starts changing color or a line rusts out (I live in the rust belt so common for rust out lines; and I do all my lines at that point because if I touch one they all fail shortly after).

Thanks Alex. I have a 2016 cls 350d, and I like to change the oil every 5000 miles or there abouts. I use a dipstick sucker. I'd love to hear from others whether this is a good thing, or a bad idea. Either way thats how I do it, and I always manage to extract all 8 liters of oil. If I had a lift I would love to be able to have a go at all the other jobs mentioned. WatchJRGo just did a video on this with a Honda. I've been doing that with an E500 for a while now. I have to empty the catch can in the middle though. I don't do it on dad's pickup truck. It takes 14L of oil, so I have to empty the catch can twice, and it's awkward to have in a position that I can suck from. I just pull the plug on that. Oil filter is next to the plug anyways.

Great video, as always! I recently purchased a 2011 E350 4MATIC with a touch over 42,000 miles, and I love it. I took it to my local dealer and they quoted $1,600 for the 40,000-mile service (ouch). I did it anyway, since the car was impeccibly maintained and I wanted to keep it going, but if I had a lift I'd do it myself .... Either way, such solid cars.

Yeah I did the MAF and TB cleaning plus installed 6 new spark plugs for under $100. Certain things I leave to a mechanic but simple stuff like oil/filter changes, air filter change, cabin filter change, light bulb change and tune up is easy to do.

There has been a massive recall on these regarding the rear axle carrier. Also the lower control arms on the rear where the spring is seated are word taking a look at the inside of them. especially in area’s where in the wintertime they dump a phalanx of salt on the roads.

I was going to mention the same thing,,,,,definately need to check the rear subframe-especially with all that "Chicago corrosion" under the car. Also a good idea to keep an eye on the front driveshaft u-joint for excessive slack on the 4matics, as I've seen them fail right after going out of warranty.

Good video for people who are too intimidated to work on their own MB. I have been a MB tech for 3 years now and I would chose a MB over any other European car brand to work on. Especially cars from and right after the 204 era. Just two things I want to point out about this specific video: A VERY important inspection point on the W204 is the rear subframe (also on the W212 and any other MB of this era that uses a similar style subframe), especially near the front mounting points. It LOVES to rust there (especially up north) and I have replaced over 30 of these the last 2 years. To drain the TQ easily, remove the auxiliary trans fluid pump. It's only 3 bolts and one connector, there is another rubber inspection cover under it. Remove it and now you can point the TQ drain plug straight down to drain the fluid without making a huge mess inside the trans housing. I always replace the drain plug and crush washer on these! This is how I was taught to do it at the dealer.
