You won't buy a "repaired" rebuilt title car after watching this video. My free Lexus was hiding some horrible bodywork and the previous owner drove it around for years like this. This video will show you that you must get a vehicle that's been previously repair inspected at a body shop. Never buy a car private party or from an auction sight unseen!

I remember back in the early 80s my brother had bought a old pickup. I don't remember what make it was. It was a old, small pickup. I think it was from the late 50s. He was going to start a restoration project with it. He was going to turn it into a hot-rod for cruising. But his career started demanding more and more of his time. He finally had to sell the pickup since it was becoming impossible for him to give it the necessary time due to his job at a semiconductor company.

@@TheRealAlpha2 A good shop will do it properly or they won't do it at all... so it completely depends on where you have the rebuilt done. There are certain standards and regulations in place for certified body shops. BUT as always, there are always people that look for the cheapest option and that means bad repairs... and as the first comment said: proper documentation with pictures etc. should provide enough to show it has been done properly.

Yeah, i literally said that out loud at the beginning of that portion of the video. Indisputably, nothing on earth works to remove residues and things like low quality coats of paint as well a gum wheel does. The fact that you can even use one on nice clean high quality paint to get stuff like badge adhesive and road tar among other things off makes them completely indispensable and practically heaven-sent

@miscbits6399

Don't put leds in place of Halogens at all. The focus is all over the place and they'll fail any DOT stringent testing due to beam coverage - it's explicitly illegal to do this in a lot of jurisductions (or to put HIDs into halgen frames for that matter) and can result in roadside vehicle impoundment

@miscbits6399
@miscbits6399 2 жыл бұрын
@@philtowle4683 yes and no. The beam cutoffs are still bad. Headlights using halogens are designed for an onmidirectional point source (the filiament) and leds are not a point source no matter how much makers fiddle the geometry. LED retrofit headlamps are not legal under any circumstances in either the USA or Europe and a large part of the reason is that they invariably end up blinding oncoming drivers Iit's not just about YOUR vision, but making sure you don't interfere with the night vision of other people

Another great video, Alex. I love watching work get done properly. A friend had a bit of a bump with his 89 Grand Marquis. A new front fender was $188 at the time. The Maaco shop that did the work likely spent more than that between buckets of Bondo and the work of getting the old fender somewhat into shape. Just to add insult to injury, they then used a single stage paint instead of a clear coat, and on the Dark Cranberry Red, it showed, and put tape stripes over the factory painted coach lines. It was a real shame seeing the poor workmanship done to that lovely car.

There are several varieties of them. I have a clamp style as well that looks more like a c clamp with a screw to tighten. Works really well. They are used more for full time mechanics and people who work on cars all the time and don't want stuff in their way. That's where you see them the most. They are less damaging to the strut so it won't bind and cause issues like channel locks could.

I took it to my mechanic to have it inspected, it had worn front suspension components and a leaking power steering pump. The car had 5,000 miles on it! The mechanic also told me that he used to do warranty work for Auto Source and they definitely slopped cars together.

Very interesting Alex. In New South Wales, the state in Australia where I live, they have outlawed ‘repairable write offs’. What this means is that any car written off with minor damage is only able to be used for parts. A friend in the trade was given a MY06 Saab convertible where the owner left a window open and the car was written off!!! Mainly because repairers here don’t know how to work on Saabs so they quote high for the work. A hot air blower fixed the issue in a day or two,b it because it was written off, the VIN Chassis number was recorded never to be used again. Why? Because car rebirthing was out of control in this state and this was the administrators reaction! Love your work, Lloyd
