Sets like this are why I wish the promotion wasn't ONLY a promotion, but was early access, if that makes sense. I want this to be available longer, because this set looks great, but my only nearby Lego stores are Disney Springs and Legoland.

Entirely agree. Don't see why they couldn't have at least made it a very limited set rather than a GWP. They know that it would've sold well enough over a limited period for retail price

Bionicle in 2001-2003 was like lightning in a bottle. I don't think Lego is capable of capturing that magic again.

we may never see bionicle return to the shelves in a full wave fashion, and maybe for good reason, but man the reception this set got from the fans inspires just a little bit of hope that one day lego could reinvest in a fantasy-genre constraction theme (be it system, technic or whatever) and perhaps put together a theme for the next generation of lego fans to love the way we loved bionicle

The fact of the promo set being rated 18+ gave me a real hearty laugh given how the eligible themes are all very much marketed towards younger kids. Still, glad I was able to find some nice sets to be able to get the GWP.

I didn't even know this existed before this video popped up. Very interesting that they decided to make a stand-alone Bionicle set; I thought the small Tahu last year was all that we were going to see. It was really depressing when you read off the names of Lego's in-house themes, though, because they used to have so much more unusual and creative stuff other than the small handful they have now (with more than half of that handful being very basic themes like Creator and City).

Seems like every time Lego make a call back to Bionicle, something big happens the next year. In 2014 Bionicle was referenced as a throwaway joke in The Lego Movie, then in 2015 Bionicle was rebooted. In 2022 Lego included a little Tahu mini-build in The Lego Classic Anniversary Set, and now in 2023 we have the Tahu and Takua GWP set.

The one thing I would've like is an additional mask for the Kanohi Avohkii as the designers stated they had enough budget for one more print (though that most likely meant ONLY for a print, not additional pieces, still would've been nice to see the Mask of Light as an extra build)

I wouldn't mind if more sets were released in this brick form. More articulation, and although it isn't "classic" Bionicle, I still appreciate it especially since the old piece molds are gone. Maybe custom mask pieces could be a possibility if they decide to expand this, but I really like this style and all the MOCs the community has made. Someone made custom decals for the rest of the Mata masks, so I definitely plan on making the rest of the matoran. Great to see you back by the way!

I modified my set with the pieces included to where instead of the lava board leaning forward, it's leaning to the right. I also modified the sword hand to be more accurate with one of those little black one by one pin pieces instead of the orange clip piece with the three red one by ones stuck to the pin sticking the fire sword in the end of it.

Whoa, that thumb punch surprised me, apparently, the box designs vary from region to region. In my country, the box is like on the large LEGO sets - just a tape over the 'open' sizes.

I just noticed that there are 2 box variants. One that uses 4 pieces of tape that you just have to cut to open and the one that uses punching through with finger.

why do you want the same stories told over again. they were rooted in the culture and commercial elements of the 2000s. they will not feel the same if done today, and you will instead feel empty when you realize that bionicle is not immune to the change that time brings. g3 should be all new characters and stories completely. the book has been written on tahu and crew a hundred times. No one has anything new to add

Honestly the gift with purchase wasnt too bad. All I had to do was resell the lego city set on facebook marketplace for 85$ and the new years rabbit for 18 dollars and I only paid like 5$ for the tahu set (the new years rabbit cost a couple bucks to ship)

Even though I really liked the characters and story, the technic-based construction and large, unique parts are what made it Bionicle for me. This brick-based constraction method works well for creating constraction figures in general, but they really don't capture the vibe of Bionicle at all. It's nice for one-off tribute sets like this, but I would be very disappointed if it was used for a proper relaunch of the series.

The one I got had no thumb punch spot (you had to cut tape instead) and lacked some of the info on the front (for example part count), so I guess there are regional differences even on this promo

This. They know the ones who really want this are going to buy other sets. They went with a pure business decision, which is understandable to a degree. But it's also at a price point where kids/parents wouldn't hit if they're buying the sets that are included, so it's not getting much additional exposure to younger kids

While I see the charm and everything with brick built bionicle, I really think it wouldnt be good as Gen 3. One of the main draws for me as a creative person was the ability to make figures and characters however I want. I really think that making it brick built would not appease the majority of people and I don't think they should ever choose that over technic/ccbs styles of large action figures. I don't collect Legos bricks, but I do collect bionicles. I love the style and the metallic robotic look of bionicle that is impossible to recreate with bricks without stickers or printing. The charm I feel towards bionicle isn't anything present on these, it's on the snapping of balls into sockets and the feeling of creating this new figure. I just don't get that same feeling from building bricks sets.
