Really appreciate the good quality photo examples from the camera. Yours is the only channel I’ve seen that has done this, maybe with the exception of Marky Marc. It helps to demonstrate the quality of the sensor.

I bought a M8 two years ago and enjoy it very much. The colours come out nice, although they can now and then be very off, probably due to de increased ir-sensitivity. The lcd sucks and the shutter is quite loud. Resolution is excellent. I especially enjoyed making infrared-photos with this camera. Considering the chance of shutter-failure; it is said that it helps to avoid very fast shutter speeds….. Thanks for posting!

great video and love the upfront disclaimer! I sold my M8 because of that reason, paid the difference and grabbed an M6, a repairable camera if needed. I for sure enjoyed the M8 when I had it!
@Lonnie.G2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I completely forgot to include that part in the voice track but I really wanted people to understand the risk associated with shooting a camera like this. M6 is definitely a legendary dream camera and the current pricing reflects that! I'd like to own an M10/M10-P/M10-D one day -- pinching my pennies lol
@reyrey52502 жыл бұрын
@@Lonnie.G yea my M8 was working fine but I kept reading and hearing of failed shutters at a low count. I reached out to Leica to confirm what I was hearing in terms of pricing and yea, the cost would be more then the camera it self (if not more) and parts are extremely low. I couldn’t justify the paper weight. The M6 is amazing!! I found myself buying digital camera to try and replicate the film look so I finally said , forget it , I’m just going to go big and grab an M6. That M10 does sound amazing, I hope you get your hands on one!

My favorite digital M. I pick one up every year. Love the IQ and accessibility to M glass. Batteries suck. The back screen doesn't bother me because I shoot film and don't chimp. Being able to check the shutter count in the secret menu helps me rotate my M8s. And the 1.33 crop helps eliminate vignetting on some lenses. The black paint goes great with my black paint MP. Cheers!

I am seriously impressed with how enjoyable it is to use a camera of this age still. There's a few other cameras from this time period I still have admiration for but none quite like this. That's a great point with the crop factor and vignette. Enjoy your M*s!

M8 in 2022, yes! I love my M8.2 and my M9. It’s definitely not a perfect camera, but it’s not the boring mix of modern cameras, and the is nice.

The M8 just has that magic. not many cameras can compare. I bought mine right after it released and worked 4 years with it. To this day, even at 10mp's, no digital camera had that magic of shooting. I sold it and I wish I never had.

Thank you for your excellent review. I own a Leica M Type 262 but have been considering getting an M8 to see how the CCD sensor gets on and as sort of a back up camera. I'm not a professional, rather just a hobbyist but have enjoyed Leica since 1998.
@Lonnie.G2 жыл бұрын
It’s not a bad back up camera at all IMO. If something happened to it as a backup you would likely still have your primary camera so that is the ideal situation!

I’ve been a Fuji Sq00 shooter since the original came out. I’m now on the X100V and XT3 however the XT3 just sits on the shelf collecting dust. I recently had the Leica niggle because I love shooting film but, like you, hate the costs involved. I only shoot photos of my kids now and so don’t mind the slower pace. I’m really tempted by the M8 but the cost is discouraging, especially given the lack of repair options (also I don’t have £1400 in my bank!).
@Lonnie.G2 жыл бұрын
Yeah honestly I think that the Fuji line is a more sensible operation unless you find something lacking in your connection that the Leica would fill. I think that is a rare situation overall though and it’s certainly a very personal preference. You have to really enjoy the real rangefinder way of focusing and/or zone focusing for an M to be a better fit. Not to mention the concern of repairability. As such, I view it as a very novel, yet functional, luxury item. Definitely don’t spend the money if it’s not something your ok with losing. If not, better to save for a more modern M with better repairability (ie m240 or 262)

The Leica M8 sold in 2006 approximately there is a budget alternative ie Nikon D80 with the D or G Nikon lenses. I have no idea of difference in price originally but these days in the UK Leica body would cost you approx £1000 with the Nikon £70. It would be interesting to compare the two with lenses made in the same era. I would love the Leica with the better manual focusing don’t get me wrong the Leica is wonderful camera but both have a CCD sensors.
@Lonnie.G2 жыл бұрын
Yes there are absolutely cheaper ways of getting the CCD look. I guess it’s still that Leica tax and they way they tend to retain more value on the used market

Asking politely.. Do you want to sell it?
@Lonnie.G2 жыл бұрын
Ahhhh that’s a tough one. I’m gonna lean and say no for now but the thought does cross my mind. Love the colors but I want a 28 or 35mm field of view but don’t have it in the budget for any glass right now - so that’s tough. And sometimes I want something with a slightly bigger shooting envelope ISO wise so have thought about going back to the m240 or saving for an M10. But I think I would forever regret selling this if I did - especially since it’s the m8.2. Long explanation, but I think right now I want to keep it
@eddiegee29402 жыл бұрын
Isn't a risk getting this model because if there's a malfunction, no one including Leica company will not fix it. Outdated, Leica has moved on.
