Would have picked up the 43 in the first place half a year ago. Meanwhile I fell in love with the 28mm and don‘t intend to change. Unless you are pixel peeping or making large prints, cropping is perfectly fine at least up to 75mm. The 43 has a slight advantage in shallow dof but not by a large margin (less than one f-stop). I appreciate the possibilities of including the background when shooting people. That‘s where the shorter focal length really shines.

I love the 43. With the 28, about 90% of my street images needed to be significantly cropped to get the actual image I was after. Not so with the 43. For portraits, no comparison, 43 so much better. However, the 43 requires that you be very mindful of the narrow depth of field when shooting at 2.0. If you are shooting more than one person in the frame, you need to stop down.

Thanks for the nice video. I am keeping my Q3 28mm, as there are many other camera and lens alternatives for 35 and 50 mm.

I think vs the a7cr, the q3 still has the color perk, leaf shutter and in e mount land you can’t get something that small and that good of a lens. My voightlander 50mm apo still is longer, has no leaf shutter and I’ve also noticed the calibration of lens to camera does have minor differences. The Q3 and its lens are calibrated for each other. So I think one can assume the premium is more like $1500 to $2000 more for those minor positives plus the badge, your look while wearing it and the interface which is pretty nice. You simply can’t use the same thought process you can when putting other cameras head to head. That said, you don’t get much for the premium but you still might want that deep in your soul.

Thanks for sharing! Would the Q's be your typical choice for landscape? I don't think I'd ever default to a Q3 in this scenario, I'd probably use my GFX setup, but I realize you've got review the cameras in some context, might as well be a national park.. :) Do you think you see any benefit over the Q3 43 and say an M-body + 50 Summilux? Is AF and the EVF a factor here for you at all, or is primarily a focal length preference? I've got a Q3 28 and M11-P + 35/50 Lux, and considering consolidating to a Q3 28+43 combo for a lighter walkabout kit.

Thanks for your insights and demonstrations. I have been shooting 2-4 frame pano's with my Zf for landscapes and I plan to do the same with the 43 for some of my landscapes. That would give me much more resolution to crop later. And consider HDR Pano as well. What exposure meter settings were you using? Seems some might have been spot? Also you can lose a stop or so with CPL filters. I am choosing to keep both my Q's for now and have the options, because I can (I'm blessed). 🙂

You can always take 3 images in portrait and stitch them together to create a white angle shot.I don't own either of these cameras. But if I was going to buy one I would buy the forty three because it's very easy to stitch a panno

When you use the frames and shoot at 150 does the image in Lightroom when imported show the image as 43 and does it show it cropped in?

The metadata is incorrect. It shows the image as full resolution still and at 43mm. However it is obvious when you zoom on the image that it is not original resolution. Hopefully either Leica or Lightroom will update to support the actual resolution and focal length. At least the resolution. I would get my the focal length wouldn't be considered.

"i'm losing compression" You re not losing compression on the 28, you are not creating compression.

Love this comparison. If you still have Leica Q3 28mm, Can you please do a Raw comparison video skin tone check for 43mm and 28mm? I have 28mm Q3 but what I noticed is when I shoot Raw it has a yellow skin tone cast vs Q3 43mm is closer to the Nikon Fuji RAW image color. Can you do Raw comparison video skin tone check for 43mm and 28mm? I know post-processing can fix this color tone issue but I am looking for direct Raw comparison. Before I invest in 43mm want to see Skin tone comparison. Hope you make comparison video for this. Looking forward to see it!

So I did notice that and in a video I'm releasing soon comparing the Q3 43 to the Sony a1, I noticed white balance differences. What I found is that the the Q3 models seem to measure color temperature differently than what I am used to and it seems to aggressively apply what it decides on throughout the image. This really stuck out to me when I took a picture of a camp fire. The fire was nice and orange and the rest of the image was very blue. It was not well balanced. I had to back up to give the camera more area to evaluate before it warmed up the entire shot. The Sony a1 seemed to do this on it's own. So my thought is that since the 28mm is wider, you end up with more in the scene that it has to evaluate from and on warm days it overcompensates. The 43mm is a tighter scene so the area to evaluate from is smaller. I likely won't be creating any additional Q3 videos but I will share my findings on social media if I end up going any further down this rabbit hole. Regardless, if you know the camera's tendencies you can adapt your shooting so that you can get it right in camera.

@@jeradcamera It would be great if you could create a social media post comparing human skin tone between Q3 28mm and Q3 43mm. I found this on the DP review when comparing raw photos: Q3 28mm looked way yellow compared to Q3 43mm.

I am looking for a camera to take photos of my 1 year old son. What would you suggest ? Leica Q3 43 / Q3 or Fujifilm x100 vi . Thinking to bring the camera to my overseas trip. Thank you

@@piupiuyy7413 hello my friend. I have the 28 and the 43... I will say that the Q3 28 is probably the better option. It is great to use indoors with the kids, on trains or travelling etc. the 43 I've found a little too tight in those situations.. plus you can add a lot of the scene when travelling, or at events etc. and when you crop you don't lose image quality... The 43 is marginally too tight for everyday/scenario usage. BUT it takes beautiful portraits... Well beautiful pictures regardless. I find the 28 images a little more dynamic... But maybe that's because 35 ISH is a little boring to my eye. The Fujifilm x100vi is a great option too and significantly cheaper. I tried one, but missed the premium build of a Leica .. because I'm clearly a snob .. Good luck
