My Indian friend told me the difference between red lentils and brown lentils. The brown is a shell, and if you remove it the inside is red... so a red lentil is a brown lentil without its shell which is why its the creamy soft inside... yummy.

Great videos Dani! I came upon your youtube channel as I was searching for some good tips to make sweetpotato fries. I found your recipe the most helpful such as peel or not to peel the skin and other baking tips. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. I am lacto-ovo-vegetarian. I do cook lentils several times a week and usually add greens like spinach or collard, green chillies and seasoning with oil, cumin seeds, whole red chillies , turmeric and salt. Goes very well with brown rice topped with 1/2 tsp of Grassfed cow's milk Ghee... Yum!

I made your lentil humous. Mmmmmm! Delicious! Not lentils but split green peas. I made a pea patty. I cooked the peas as directed when cooked I added some salt to taste, I finelychopped up a shallot onion and chilli pepper but you could use mint if you don't like hot food. I mixed it all together and formed it into a patty.Then I greased a pan with oil and gently heated it through cooking it on both sides. Serve with a leafy green salad. Just experiment with your fave herbs.

I threw some brown lentils into the cabbage rolls I made for Christmas Eve dinner. I wanted to make a healthy version of cabbage rolls vs the traditional white rice + bacon ones, so I used brown and wild rice mixed with lentils, shridded carrot and zucchini, and cabbage, seasoned with soy sauce and dehydrated vegetable powder, and thyme, and onion powder, and rolled it up in savoy cabbage leaves. I added a bit of miso broth to the cooking liquid.

Hi Dani, I just wanted to let you know I think your channel is so helpful. A few years ago I decided to start eating healthier and exercising reguarly, but a lot of books, websites and videos make really complicated recipes that are overwhelming. I just need to eat! I remember the first time I read kale in a recipe and I thought wth is kale??? And I googled it and found your channel. Thank you so much for keeping things SIMPLE. Since then, I've lost 50lbs and I've reached my health goals. Lately though my doctor said I'm a little anemic so I'm looking for foods with more iron, folate and vitamin c etc. So I'm trying lentils! Thank you!

@@tmo.48 Here's a recipe that very close to my mother's: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXW4kGumgKyrpKc The only difference is that my mother chops up the bacon into fine pieces (including the bacon fat); and she actually used the bacon as the base for flavour. Put the bacon in the pit first; and fry it in the pot, before adding the lentils. Also, the wieners aren't necessary. You can add them if you want, include something else, or just eat the lentils and spätzle.

I did that with a bag of mayocoba beans and I kept going back for “one more” bowl-I truly felt I was turning into a glutton because I just couldn’t stop, I had never tasted such a creamy goodness and bought more at the store even though I eat and love any and all legumes. Yep-I’m gonna do it again 🥰

But my favorite way to eat brown lentils is to boil them with chicken stock, garlic salt, and Mrs Dash, and use them as a bed for my baked chicken thighs. Then I pour some of the chicken fat over it. Thanks for such an informative video covering not one, not two, but three different types (colors) of lentils in only 5 minutes. I ain't no gourmet chef or maybe I am old fashioned, but I like to know the basics. For example, if I am cooking one cup of lentils, approx how many cups of water should I add? You may (or may not) be surprised how many cooks on youtube do not supply this information. Speaking of being old fashioned, where can I buy that cup of coffee for 5 cents advertised on your kitchen wall?

true short story about lentils. The Philadelphia Parking Authority looks unfavorably on people who accumulate wads of parking tickets. When I pleaded with the judge for mercy, they took my entire two week paycheck, minus 2 dollars. With that two dollars I bought a bag of lentils and a bag of carrots. After two weeks of eating them I fell in love with them. They saved my life. Raise a glass to lentils.

I love Lentils but never made them before. I've always had the canned stuff. Now, I am on a low to no salt diet and I am going to make my own no salt Lentil soup. Questions: 1.) Should I soak them over night? 2.) I've heard there are pebbles in them, how long should I spend cleaning (going through them)??? Thanks
@mizzkhan40297 жыл бұрын
Lentils need to be checked for pebbles etc due to some remaining after being packaged, pebbles are normally quite apparent. .couple of minutes should do it. You do not need to pre-soak these overnight. .they cook very quickly..you may have them confused with legumes like; kidney beans. .chickpeas etc which do need pre-soaking. Hope that helps. :)
