8:15 to be fair Aljo's title defenses against everyone but a heavily injured TJ were controversial split decisions. This is on top of his controversial DQ winning of the title in the first place. There is a reason most fans hate him, and some even say that his title reign was "fake". At the end of the day, Aljo is not a victim of the "recency bias" but more of his failure to win the crowd as an extremely controversial champion.

I would be happy if a few of these were added to the next list. Just based on a few people i know. The Fair Weather Fan- someone who enjoys mma in cycles. Will watch every event for a few months and then lose interest for sometimes years at a time. They may regain interest either through media coverage or through a person who is a hardcore fan that brings them into it. The Expert- differentiated from the Hardcore by their sheer combat knowledge. Probably an active martial artist or just completely obsessed. They know stats before the commentators bring them up and can usually predict a fight. Gamblers best friend. Blood sport- These guys just like wars. They can tell you all the best fights from ufc1 all the way to current with a special nostalgia for the non-televised days. Their heroes look like chewing gum. The Sportsman- They might as well be a referee for how often they call foul play and claim a fight would have been different without that one eye poke or nut shot. They like decisions because the judges are always right. The conspirator- It all rigged. Dana pays fighters to take a dive to build up charismatic fighters to sell more tickets. The UFC merged with WWE just to pay Vince McMann to write storylines. They got rid of USADA to let fighters' juice again. The Girlfriend/boyfriend- they don't like this shit and they let you know it by being a pain in the ass every time a fight is on. Harps on fight injuries being gross. The New Fan- they don't know much but they like what they see. They rabidly consume all things mma. They haven't seen the rise of all the new techniques and styles they are just thrust into it. They actually like grappling exchanges because the commentators break it down better than the striking. The Wifey(can be a man)- is either a personal fan or watches because you do but either way, ride or die. Whatever makes you happy. The Vet- by virtue of seeing people turned into bologna mist in combat the vet RELAXES to mma in the background. Something in the sound of meat slapping meat and coaches screaming instructions puts the Vet into a dreamlike stupor. They often fall asleep to fights and then watch highlights the next day. The Idiot- doesn't know anything but tries to convince you they do. Misquote stats or fight results. Often confuses a whole group of people before it is discovered they are in fact idiots.

It goes in waves. Right now kicking above the waist can really be dangerous if you’re fighting a guy who has good top control after a takedown, or a guy who has great BJJ and wants it to go to the ground. That’s why footwork has to be absolutely on point before they throw body kicks, and head kicks have to come fast and hard without any telegraphing, or right after a punch combo. Kicking is a big risk for a takedown. Nice payoff if it works but a guy with good boxing who is fighting a ground guy is most likely to forgo kicks above the waist.

Whilst I agree partially (depends on the fighter), I've seen both sides to this coin, its a missed stereotype. Like people claiming that Fedor only fought cans and bums for 50 fights (because it wasn't UFC/its before McGregor) OR the cotnrary, how Couture would snap in half any modern fighter in his category. @@TheTeodorsoldierabvbSuch a ridiculous argument for those people to make. It may work for other major sports but not MMA. The sport is so young and evolves so much from decade to decade that it is a completely unfair comparison. it's not indefensible, honestly you're exaggerating. @@StigPriceit’s wayyyyyy more humbling and demoralizing. You can recover from getting dropped but you can’t recover from a mounted triangle. That and I’d rather be punched in the face than be in a deep heel hook/armbar since even if you escape you can have permanent damage. I guess it comes down to how much you care about getting hit, if you don’t care bjj can definitely be scary on paper
@StigPrice

@@Osamas_worst_nightmare we talking competing in bjj at the highest level here? Because rolling in sparing, people aren't going 100% and are usually holding back when it comes to submissions... Most people don't grab a knee or leg lock and go ape shit on it, and most people when put in a knee or leg log say, look, it's only practice, I've left my ego at the door, and they tap.. The biggest danger in grappling is a broken spine from being taken down/slammed. But most bjj gyms you'll start on your knees to avoid the danger of a take down... As for boxing, dude one bad punch can kill yah, especially if you smash the back of your head on the way down. The accumulation of concussive damage to the brain as well, leaves people in a wheelchair. I've done both, boxing and bjj. And I can tell you from experience...it's much scarier sparring a person who's twice you'd size when boxing than it is sparring someone twice your size in jiu-jitsu. As for humbling and demoralising...if you are on that mat...you should already be humble..

I’ve never trained MMA (except one Muay Thai class) but I love MMA. I practice boxing at home and have a grappling dummy. I just enjoy the strategy of the fighters and the techniques they use for grappling and striking. I also love to see how certain fighters styles will go against each other. I’ll miss a fight night every now and then and almost never watch the prelims unless they have someone I’m familiar with. I don’t watch it for the knockouts, in fact, I’d be perfectly fine watching a main card with none at all. Grappling doesn’t bore me unless it’s like the almeida vs Lewis fight. Guess that makes me a semi-hardcore fan?
